The only problem with Stephen Kearney is that he is a bit slow. Not a revolutionary thinker in Rugby league , he's better than his detractors rate him but he's not one of the best Coaches in the World.
Stephen Coaches like he talks....slowly....great person as an individual but his selections for example are based on his perception of Coach player relationships and not Form or Risk taking.
That's why you see mysteries like Blair and Mckendry get a long life over fire crackers like JWH and Kearney's Pick of Captain mannering .....pick the Chief with the Mana ehoa Kieran Foran.
Kearney's worst non selections in favor of pets include Greg Eastwood ( on fire for the Black and Whites....one of those dudes like us who grows another leg mentally just by puling the Jumper on.....Zeb Taia.....one game wonder.....the most Amped Kiwi since the eighties......went mental when he pulled on the black and White.......but Stephen saw fit to overlook him based on NRL form.....)
Well here's the thing Stephen ....a test is not an NRL game.......players who become supermen in a test Jumper are what the State of Origin is selected on...people like Mark Coyne....Rod Wishart.......and so many others.......not superstar names.......but in Rep jumpers they are the Soldiers who will charge over a hill while the fancy boys shit themselves......i digress......but Kearney better pick JWH this time around ....he'd better pick beastwood....and he'd better give Roger Tuivasa-Sheck a taste ahead of so so players he knows better.
As for replacements to Kearney.....If David Kidwell can't pick a vicious forward pack and fire them up then no one can.
Kearney would never have picked Olhsen ....NZ's greatest Stand off......tubby club player who was crap in the Winfield cup but destroyed the Emperor Wally Lewis every time they faced off.
Learn your League Whakapa Stephen....when a man grows another leg in the black and whites he gets the jumper till he lets it go.....

What a load of bullsh*t. For a start when Kearney talks it's measured and thoughtful, he doesn't need to recklessly spout crap and that speaks volumes for his character and personality. Who would want an egg boasting this and that, being a know it all smart arse Ricky Stuart type when we have a studious Bennett esque type persona at the helm.
i dont know about this, the fact kearney adds 'you know' about twice a sentence indicates he is thinking on the fly and having trouble keeping his train of thought to me.
probably is bullshit but It's just an opinion , I'm not one of those who tries to take away credit form kearney for having Wayne Bennet in there , that was an astute call.
Kearney makes some dour structure / game plan based selections in his forwards especially. It has to be a storm thing surely.

Remember when TL couldn't crack the halves and Issac luke lost most of his minutes to TL , It made no sense , Luke had been the Superior hooker of those two in a Kiwi jumper hands down.
TL is a good hooker , Luke is one of NZ's great hookers , Stephen Slowly came to that realisation.

why do people think Kearneys so crap??? I mean he aint the best coach in the world but he sure aint the worst, people seem to forget he took us to Tri-Nation and World Cup glory, and getting Bennett in was a master stroke so I dont think hes as thick as people make out, and if all of this reasoning is because he coached Parramatta all I can say is that he inherited a crap team, and where I think the Parramatta Club Board didn't give him the scope they allowed to Ricky Stuart who also did crap with basically the same crap team, so I do think he was harshly done by Parramatta hoping he would turn it around within a year...
I do agree about some of the selection for the Kiwis lately though like Mckendry when he didnt deserve it, or Tohu Harris to early in his career, anyway at the time I fought there were a few others that deserved to be in the Kiwis, I do think its time to move on after this World Cup but give credit where credits due...

Well Very few in reality Kearney is the best Candidate.
David Kidwell if you rate NRL based coaches is pretty much it. I'm looking forward to when he gets his turn , it will be interesting to see what type of forward pack he assembles.

Personally I think they should have a look at anyone , limiting themselves to Kiwis is all well and good but it doesn't make sense when you compare that to players.....Tamou , Fein etc.
As much as it would be great to have a NZer coaching the kiwis - it doesn't have to be... Neil Henry is looking for a gig, and I'm sure he'd want to get one over the Aussies... Great technical coach, and his players want to play for him (look at the Cowboys after he was sacked).
Would Michael Maguire want a chance to coach against the best team in the world (being the kangaroos)? I don't know, but he'd be worth asking. He's based in Sydney and would be able to keep close tabs on most players there (plus the warriors play there every second week)... He's also touted a bit as a supercoach now, which surely could only help us in convincing young players not to turn their backs on the black and white.

why is cleary getting so much support...he's the assistant coach and with his warriors connection you'd think its his idea to put Taylor, firstly as backup for Luke and then push him into the backrow. Dumbest move i'd reckon.
I'd splash cash on bellamy and get him in as coach...
If we want a kiwi (and this is a wayyy left field), what about graham henry...maybe as a coaching director with someone like kidwell etc to assist him
