Staff Stephen Kearney

Wow.

Congrats Coach, I was dead against it and seeing Cappy made your assistant makes it even fucking harder to accept, but I can park all of that and say congrats, and welcome.

I wish you/us the very best success next season and truly hope you and the team can show is something different.

Good luck, welcome - let's get it on :rage:

Anything is better than repeating the same mistakes. More coaching experience in all areas. An advisory board and another coach to be announced.
Good or bad, next season is now more exciting!

So the Sack Coach Cappy Thread lives to rage on ???:p

Pretty savvy move by Doyle IMO

I gotta ask ... has an incumbent head coach ever taken a demotion to assistant before ???

Anyways WELCOME HOME MOOKS!!!
Not that I can ever remember. Why leave the poison in the new chalice???

Pretty interesting to me they're getting together a "Football Advisory board" - how that works, I have no idea, but there's some pretty big names on there... SGH, that NFL that came to NZ earlier this year (what he knows about league, I have no idea)... Awen. Kind of feels like a fresh start for 2017, even IF Cappy remains as assistant.

Unbelievable.

In short space of twenty four hours we have gone from RLW magazine reporting that Stephen Kearney is completely comfortable in his role as Wayne Bennett's assistant at Brisbane to him being officially announced by club as new NZ Warriors coach. I can't personally begin to tell you how happy this makes me though like some on you on here I am disappointed that they have decided to keep Cappy on in an assistant role. Still who I am to comment or to judge ?

Congratulations Stephen Kearney on your new coaching position with NZ Warriors. Long may you run ... :)

As someone who's closer to the scene than most I gotta ask you ... is he seriously that bad bro ???

By all accounts, despite his lack of results I still found McFadden to be a team first man from my limited outside perspective ... am I wrong in thinking that ???

Not being cheeky or rhetorical at all ... I'd genuinely like to know your thoughts on it ???

My thinking is that McFadden could possibly help Kearney hit the ground running by giving him the inside word on what he thinks has been going wrong & right etc

Also if the players do genuinely back McFadden then now they have the best of both worlds, two coaches (3 if we include Stacey) they should actually want to play for ... no excuses now

From a business perspective maybe the powers that be didn't want to shell out on the remainder of Cappy's contract so they convinced him to swallow his pride & take a hit for the team and or maybe they genuinely believe he still has something to offer ... all pure speculation of course

I would like to point out that I absolutely nailed this though ...

If this does go down I could also easily see Stacey Jones being bumped up to assistant

STOKED!!! ... usually my speculative tips are utter dogshit ... think I'll go buy a lotto ticket tomorrow :p

Not 100% sold on Kearney but something had to change.
Bit odd McFadden hanging around can imagine it being a bit undermining for Kearney but at least Jones is in the mix.
Stoke SGH is sticking around, a lot of guys hate Union but this guy knows sports and people management and doesn't put up with shit.
Overall club seems to be in a better spot, well done JD I was pretty miffed at the club a week ago lol

Do head coaches normally get to choose their assistants? I wonder if Kearney had those two in mind.

It's looking like another attempt at a quick fix...

Hopefully the advisory board remain as advisors and not the "real coaching team".

I see it as a gathering of success driven individuals to transform THE WARRIORS into a successful organisation from office to players etc.

I actually like that Cappy stays.

It shows JD ans Watson aren't about crucifying Cappy. It shows that they saw value in him worth retaining and developing rather than cutting him loose.

Oosh. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck Shaun Johnson FORAN LUKE. It's the spine we wanted a year ago albeit with a gazillion on and off field dramas but with the changes and JWH and Taumalolo off contract in the not too distant future, all the good big boppers would want to lay the metres for that spine.

I actually never thought we'd get JD, the Kiwi's coach, the Kiwi's spine, SGH and a great player nursery and base to click in the way that has come to fruition.

I'll be applying to work for JD to learn the ways of the force.

Luke - I can't believe it.

Yoda - That is why you fail.

Any ideas on who the other experienced international coach set to join the team is?

No I just see as unusual. Would Matt Elliott have kept Bluey on? Wayne Bennett and Hook???

I'm happy about Stephen Kearney finally being named Coach, and Stacey has a part to play. Not sure how Cappy fits in still being there as his assistant. How long before all this unravels is the key? But happy about Kearney. Can his inclusion means Johnson signs a new deal in the coming months. Surely Kearney won't let him go.

Vodafone Warriors legend Stacey Jones promoted to add further depth in a new role and another experienced international coach set to be signed to join the coaching team.
SGH it is. Along with that Mangini guy who was an NFL head coach

The way it's worded it sounds like another coach doesn't it? Usually it's just 2 assistants right?
Still think they mean SGH but he's part of an advisory group rather than a coach..
