I am ecstatic. Fucked if I know if Kearney will do well, but we have CHANGE. That's really what I wanted, so if this turns out to be true I'll back him 100% until he gives me reason not to.
Like Elliot, Kemp, Bluey & Iro??? Yeah def another coaches fault.
It's the lazy sacks of shit that sulk like children in the changing room, who play with no heart most of the time.

I think Cappy was pretty average but it's the players not the coach, so don't get too excited.

If true Jd has done a great job of keeping it quiet till now.

As others have said he does pull the odd strange selection for the kiwis, hopefully that is not something he brings to the Warriors
An i thought Cappy was out on his own making strange decisions & playing players out of position

I'm happy to put my hand up and say I was wrong if SK is officially announced as signed - I'll be saying to my source at the next workshop, I thought you reckoned he wouldn't of moved from Brisbane? WB's heir apparent lol a lot changed in 5 months lol

Reading comments on FB people are criticizing SK for his time at parra but I went to Q/A fundraiser with WB as the main guest a few years ago who was asked the SK and Parra question, and WB said ,SK shouldn't of went there for a shot at FG H/C position, the parra organisation was toxic for a young coach - SK was destined to fail when he went there. In comparison to us the Front Office looks strong IMO and the organisation is more stable then parra back then and more so today. Our results are shit TBH on the field but that's SK's job to fix it - upside to SK coming on as the coach, is AM's is out; downside will be the pressure IMO for instant success next season especially if KF signs up, look at how many kiwi players we would have on the books and then the Kiwi coach as well, there will be no more excuses for the club to front.

I'm hoping SK can get the best out of the "Stars" of the team - the fan base deserve more after the last few years.

The main thing is:
Kearney (Mooks), fits into the culture at the Warriors.
That is important, and as some other posts have noted..he wont take shit.
He has been assistant to two masters of the NRL..the Storm (Bellamy) and the Broncos (Bennett).
He would have picked up a lot of tips from these two Genius's

Lets give Mooks a chance. He will get on well with the Polynesian aspect of the Warriors
which is very important.

FWIW if SK doesn't bring the W's and KF decides to go AWOL, the forwards go MIA and AM is still on staff as AC...would AM be back in the frame to be HC?...JS...

It might be the right move and the right fit, we need a coach that the players both fear and respect. I think they do respect Cappy as a coach somewhat but they don't fear him.

Outside of Wayne and Craig, I can't think of another coach that holds enough mana with the Kiwi players that would allow that coach to make the hard calls.

You make some good points.
I personally don't think Mooks is the answer, but if it's a done deal than so be it. Will be behind him with my hope stick held high all the way. (AGAIN!)

Dreading the press conferences and coach interviews though..ever heard one??
We better be some patient mutha fuckas..cause Mook's interviews are like pulling teeth. eekk!

Round 1 after our traditional loss?

Usually first 6 rounds followed up by first 6 rounds of the following season if my memory services me correct.

we owe him that much to be fair.

How long before we start the sack kearney thread you reckon?
To be realistic nobody can fix the mess in a few weeks but depending on the roster and a true pre season of taking the boys to hell and back let's cut him some slack .
By the way who is his 2nc?

While I'm not exactly busting out the celebratory whiskey just yet, I could get behind this appointment if it happens, something has to give & who else out there is really willing & able (I just can't see Hasler or Toovey wanting the gig, I don't particularly rate Toovey as a coach anyway & I think Cleary had his time)

If this does go down I could also easily see Stacey Jones being bumped up to assistant, which I could also get behind

Trying to break it down in my head so I thought I'd do some pros & cons

Cons

Inexperience - as a NRL first grade head coach Kearney is still a novice at best

Record - Parramatta 2011-12 - 42 games 10 wins 1 draw 31 losses with a winning percentage of 24% (forced resignation due to poor results)

Media - Kearney has a reputation for not being the greatest of communicators as far as dealing with the media is concerned, but in all honesty I personally could care less about that as it is a peripheral function of his core role IMO, just look at Wayne Bennett

(I can't really think of anymore glaringly obvious cons right now, but if anyone else can please feel free to elaborate)

Pros

Experience - Although Kearney is relatively inexperienced as a NRL first grade head coach he has actually had 24 years worth of experience in & around the upper echelons of Rugby League as both a player & a coach in three countries, quite impressive considering Kearney is only 44yo

Record - Although Kearney obviously did very poorly as a head coach at Parramatta he is still widely regarded as the most successful New Zealand Kiwis rugby league coach of all time with a record of 42 games 23 wins 1 draw 18 losses with a winning percentage of 55% with notable victories being the 2008 Rugby League World Cup, (with the assistance of Wayne Bennet) Four Nations Champions 2010 & 2014, 2015 Anzac test (breaking a painful losing streak dating back to 1998)

Mentors - Kearney has gained a top shelf mentorship having spent a considerable amount of time working as an assistant first grade coach under both Craig Bellamy & Wayne Bennett who are considered to be the two best rugby league coaches of the modern era, both of these men also speak very highly of Kearney's coaching abilities

Other notable qualities - Kearney is very well known his professionalism, his strict dedication to discipline & also his meticulous nature

And last but not least, (this is more a personal observation than anything factual) since the 2008 World Cup Kearney has actually struck me as having that Wayne Bennett type quality where he is very loyal & really cares for his players on a personal level & in turn his players love playing for him & like Bennett he also has that somewhat ruthless streak to cut players, regardless of their reputations, when he deems it necessary eg: Benji, JWH etc

I've tried to just stick mostly to the facts as I see them & stay away from opinions & hearsay (both my own & others) but feel free to agree or dispute

Just from my perspective as I re-read this I've gotta say that at this stage the positives do seem to outweigh the negatives, so yeah, if this does happen I think I'm fairly comfortable with getting on board & supporting Kearney ... interesting times
