You'd be surprised how strong the connection is between kids who come from money and being screw-ups. 3 or 4 sets of family friends have become self-made millionaires and in every case, their kid/kids have not turned out particularly well.

And that's for a myriad of reasons, I'm not saying it's just the money, but it's part of it.

Totally agree with all of that, but in this case it wasn't the money but the intelligence of the guy. I don't know if Eric Watson had kids but I would understand how they could be screw ups.

Mate out of some accident of fate I have had the fortune or misfortune to know many politicians personally, including many cabinet ministers and one Prime Minister.

They get trapped by the artificial world that surrounds Parliament. They are a necessary evil, just like bottom feeders are, not saying they are bottom feeders, just saying they are a necessary evil.

There is no money in the job and they seem forever beholding to donors, people who raise money, or do other chores that need to be done for them.

I recall one guy, a self made wealthy guy before he went in, and is still now I think, who was always a natural businessman. He complained to me what a horrible waste of time and money it was having to sit in the house and listen to all that bullshit when he could have been out making money.

So we will never get the likes of Greg Foran in parliament. John Key was a bit of a fluke who because of his background was motivated to get there, and once he did was happy to get out again.

So hell will freeze over before I get near the place, oh and the food at Bellamys is shite.
