General Russia Invades Ukraine

The last time tanks were used in a European winter was WW2. The German Tigers and Leopards (old ones) were superior to the main Soviet tank, the T34 as they had longer range weapons and better communications and tactics. However they were out produced by the Soviets and had maintenance issues. Also once the Soviets and allies achieved air superiority it was all over rover. I suspect the same will play out today, and I am being generous giving individual superiority to the Ukrainians..

I don't know anything about the military but tanks seem more an attack force than defensive. So doe this mean Ukraine are planning on going on the attack. Or do they just use tanks as an easily movable defense?
Those flat areas are made for tank warfare.
From what I can see the Merkins want the Ukrainians to kick enough ass in the spring to take some more ground, maybe even the Crimea to get Putin thinking about sitting down to talk.

True but a lot of people have been overestimating Russia a bit too. They did almost take Kyiv if it wasn't for Ukraines elite paramilitary retaking the Hostomel airport they may well have succeeded in toppling the Ukrainian government. But a lot of the elite Russian units have also been wiped out conducting offensives in Ukraine. Their 1st mechanized brigade which was their pride and joy at parades was decimated in Bucha/around Kyiv. Apparently when Russia attacked Kyiv they outnumbered the Ukrainians 12 to 1 but Ukrainians were able to hold out because of their artillery.

I believe russia took hostomel then ukraine shelled the runway making it useless..... then they left eventually...

Problem with Ukraine's tank force will be Interoperability, Maintenance and Training ( borrowing) crews.....
You'd have to think some of these crews will be ' Foreign legion troops' so basically polish/NATO mercenaries ex defence force or pmcs so there is plausible deniability...
Just trying to make Russia's life harder really, otherwise they'd send loads more tanks you'd think?

First problem with this tank "aid" will be they go to Poland to get to Ukraine, from there they might not make it as far as the Frontline of Eastern Ukraine..

Wrong, Russia wasn't able to hold the airport versus ukraines 4th rapid reaction brigade along with ukrainian air support which survived the initial Russians assault. Russia had Troop carrying planes on the way which if they had landed would of been able to hold the airport but they didn't get there in time.

Seems pretty risky, not to mention risking the transportation for Africa's food source ending up at the bottom of the sea with the tanks.

Virtually all NATO aid to Ukraine is being.. already established in Poland, from training to maintenance and so on. It's little wonder the Germans were so hesitant to supply tanks give the Polish government's attitude towards them..
