Yeah Shaun Johnson is looking at the ptb and cant see to the other side of the field where the overlap is, he has a few seconds to decide what he is going to do with it and relies on calls from his outside men. If walsh or asi or anyone really had told him pass the ball, maybe we see him spread it instead.

Its not all on Shaun Johnson, but the kick that he made was shit anyway so it doesn't matter.
You realise they are playing 13 vs 11 at that point?

He's 31 years old and 200 games vet.

He doesn't need to hear calls from the outside to know that he needs to get the ball out wide asap.

I don't care if he's looking at the fucking ground, let alone the PTB. There will always be an overlap when playing against 11. So whether he saw it is irrelevant.

That is 100% all on Shaun Johnson. What am I even reading...

You sound salty.

If Shaun Johnson gets a call from outside saying grubber it through thats what he has to rely on, maybe it was walsh maybe some one else idk. Look how compressed and flat the line is, if he trys to pass that the sharks are already up on the man making a tackle and we sitting here talking about why he didnt kick it.

Maybe if he had, idk say a 6 thats played more first grade games thsn 12, or a fb thats older than 20, they could have organized the back line so Shaun Johnson could actually pass the ball and actually knew thats what the outsides wanted.

If you are relying on your journeyman 7 to control the whole game maybe thats why the warriors are doing so bad this season, im as disappointed in his performances as everyone else here but im just stating that its not 100% his fault.

Easier to read for you or do you want me to shout it at you?

They are deep enough to take that pass and there are TWO players out there marking up. Absolutely zero chance it gets shut down.

If by a miracle the Sharks defend that then atleast it wouldn’t be on Shaun Johnson. The fact is that he’s been making shocking decisions with the ball all year and this one just stands out tape more than the others.

If you believe this ‘calls from the outside’ bollocks, then you don’t understand the game at all. I’ll reiterate for you; they were playing 13 v 11.

No reason to call for a kick from those players out wide when their sitting on a 4 on 2. They could‘ve run it in like a training drill and should have.

I don’t know why Shaun Johnson kicked, but he’s getting stuck in his role of ”game manager” instead of playing the moment. This was an indefensible missed opportunity.

Lets just agree to disagree on this one and we are all arm chair coachs here, your not special mate no matter what your "understanding" of the game may be

Yes the reason they would call for a kick is because they are all inexperienced and dont know better. They are all pushing up expecting the kick, walsh is already making a run for the ball.

Even if he kicked perfectly and the warriors got a repeat set it was the wrong option, but your misguided if you think 1 person can comunicate to players on the other side of the field in a few seconds. They needed the playmakers, remember theres 7 6 and 1, to set up with Shaun Johnson and help set the team up

It was 5th tackle and Shaun Johnson was kicking the ball regardless of the numerical advantage. Nobody called for it. Go watch the replay, it’s as plain as day.

He should’ve put it through the hands, I know a lot of halves would have. It’s not all on him, there were at least 2 other missed opportunities in that sequence of play. The Walsh dropped ball that went back with numbers to burn & the Murchie non-pass. It was a absolute clusterfuck out there.

People on this forum have hard lives. They get grief from their Boss at work, in some cases have financial pressures, or family disputes they are dealing with.
The last thing they need is to be given a bollocking by you or another member of this website because they made a faulty or errant observation about the game on the weekend.
I would personally appreciate it if you kindly stopped being belligerent with the other members of this website.
Thank you

Mate, theres 12 other players on the field. Theres another half and a fb out there who can easily ask for the ball, if you've ever played footy you know that there instances where you communicate without saying a word. Pushing up into a kick chase position is just as good as telling your playmaker what you want him to do.

If they have a more experienced 6(2nd game at the club), who sets up the team outside for a passing move, or even more players who actually thonk and set up themselves, Shaun Johnson passes it. As simple as that. Thats what i mean, that plays not entirely Shaun Johnson fault, yes the kick was the wrong option but nobodys helping him to see any alternatives.

We are a poorly coached team, with players who cant think for themselves. Its a team game, players cant just run around like robots expecting 1 person to do all the thinking for them.

Compare to the sharks, how they just kept passing the ball around, their players just went into the positions that their role asks of them and nico hynes done the rest. Well coached team. Nobody on the warriors team was doing that for Shaun Johnson. Cant believe there are actually people who believe Shaun Johnson can see the whole field in the heat of the moment, who did you think we were getting when he came back, cooper cronk? The man needs help, coaching wise and player wise.

I'm with ya, the Shaun Johnson hate here is just silly. He's just a bloody footy player. He wasn't good in the weekend, as a matter of fact he was bad, really bad, Stevie Wonder can see that. But Shaun Johnson didnt lose that game all on his own, that game was lost in the ruck and we were just outpassioned by a better Sharks outfit. Shaun Johnson bad decision making just exasperated what was already a soulless and gutless performance by at least 13 or 14 other players. Katoa fumbling, Murchie going himself instead of thru the hands, Vailea fumbling that Pompey ball, countless last tackle resets...I could tell after our first set when the Sharks ran up and smacked us and we barely got out of 20 that we just don't have the guts here to compete. That lack of resilience is a bloody coaching issue. This is a horrible, horrible coached team

Bro, we’d just dragged almost the entire Sharks side (9 from 11) to the right of the goal post the play before. What are we missing here.

Shaun Johnson has eyes I assume and can count numbers.

Oops, didn‘t realise I was hating on Shaun Johnson, thought I was just dissecting this moment of the game with a bloke with an opposing point of view, it is still a rugby league forum isn’t it.

Im old enough to understand my opinion is just that, an opinion. Everyone has one and i respect yours, the good thing about this forum is the warriors faithful who are passionate enough can come here and share our thoughts about what happened or what we want to happen.

No hard feelings here mate

Same bro anything with his name on it i avoid at all costs
I don’t like that loser either but is he totally wrong?
I used to be a Hurricanes, All Blacks die hard.
I can’t watch a game of Rugby now, makes my head hurt and in rages me with the rules.
Warriors, lost my passion for this team 5 or 6 years ago, with the signings over the last couple I brought back in but it was a false alarm.
One thing though that has kept me passionate is the Black Caps, absolute fighters.
Can’t comment on the other Kiwi sports as I haven’t been back for a long while but is he wrong with the other sports?
MMA looks like a ginger stepson with even Israel boycotting NZ.

Hi guys, I've had some time to digest that one and am on the up. I've watched the first half again and just want to break down some areas of concern, some trends, bad habits etc.

Firstly we have to acknowledge Cronulla. They had a clear game plan which was to attack the edges. Shaun Johnson and Asi went through a mountain load of tackles. They specifically attacked the edges because they saw a weakness there. The middles would only get tackles once the edges were hit causing a quick PTB and the dissecting the ruck. All of this generated extremely quick PTB plus their speed running on to the ball they were chewing through our defence and I believe having the 12 men didnt change their mindset, they saw the weakness we had and continued to exploit it with no remorse.

They have a expansive attack, They were able to spread to the edges early in the tackle count, they had nice short side raids, they could go side to side, a great ruck attack. There hooker seems to make the right play everytime. They always have shape, purpose and an end to what they are trying to achieve, there were no wasted tackles.

On defence they were dominant in the tackle and compressed their line getting an easy 3-4 in, they pushed the limits of holding the ball players arm and ball, they mustve recognised this ref wouldnt call many penalties because all of our ptb were extremely slow but i'll give them the benefit due to being at home and the more agressive team.

The sad news is we are struggling to generate any go forward or quick ptbs. Lodge was the only one bending the line and creating positive runs. Adin was average. Our backrowers are weak in their carries and get turned over easily. The outside backs are just as bad on returns, they have no ability to bend the line. This coincides with the fact our sets are extremely basic and predictable. It is one out with the telegraphed side to where the ball is going. This team cant create other ways of getting fast ptb, its concerning that we are very predictable and lack any kind of misdirection or decoy. We cant get a roll on atm.

Atm the offence revolves around what Shaun Johnson chooses to do with the ball. He is utterly spent creatively as a player these days. His persistence to drop katoa underneath irks me and his constant playing the flat pass to our backrowers who cannot break the line tells me hes going through the motions out there. I dont think anyone really knows what he is doing out there, early on he kicked in goal for a repeat set but it wasn't designed it was off the cuff because Asi was previously tackled. The dude is improvising and it makes for an ugly attack that no one can make sense of. Alot of it has to do with him no longer wanting to engage the line and be tackled. He isnt asking questions anymore of the defence and hence theres never any space on his outsides. This is alarming and potentially hazardous if he continues down this path, he could end up having a very negative impact on this team moving forward.

We have a propensity to screw up a play thats shaping up well. Egan is so random at times i dont think he has a good feel for the game and alot of the time makes the wrong read. I feel for walsh he isnt getting enough touches due to guys choosing to go solo instead of following through with the play.

Defensively our edges are shot, we need some stability there with Tohu Harris coming back. I felt Jazz's defence was weak, i havent seen him do much at lock, i feel he is more impact player these days, I think curran keeps his spot at lock. We cant control the ruck atm. We are always falling on players and cant get our hands on the ball. There are some real issues there that hopefully with the return of some players can help that.

Overall i think we are truely a bottom 8 team. Theres too many issues right now that arent being resolved that I have us trending down atm. The attack is so ineffective and lacks creativity or any threat while our defence is barely surviving and the edges are shot with poor centres and weak defenders in the halves. I dont expect to see any changes unless the coaches and leadership group can turn this around. I just cant see it.

Would you say we were utterly and comprehensively out coached then?
