The frustrating thing with the Addin Fonua-Blake challenge call is previously its been if a hand is there and has an impact on the ball coming loose its a strip. Especially as the coaches would coach them to be subtle about it.

They then get the bunker to officiate on it and it has to be a stripping action.

If that was the case they should be ruling if Pompey had intent to knock the ball when really it looked like he was moving his foot out of the tackle.

Needed a big body or Jazz .
Bunty, Katoa and Penne didn’t step up.
Really Bad call to go with two hookers on the bench.
Walsh needs to
Practice his kick
Offs - inexcusable to make that same mistake again.
Some very strange calls from the officials.

Can tell we went alright as even Steve Roach was praising us by the end.

The start of the game I was like I gee here we go. If we passed the ball he's on our case about mistakes against the Roosters. If we just played safety first we'd get criticised for not doing anything.

We derided the side a few weeks ago for the terrible game against the Tigers. This was a higher quality game. Instead of being worried we'd get thrashed or be lucky to be competitive for most of the game like the last few years. I'm gutted we lost as we were in it.

Dumb by Browny not to call it out. Honor will get us no where, SK already proved that. At the very least he should have said something sly like he owes Payten an apology. Actually another red mark against Brown. I hope the ownership are looking into a PR person to start working the narrative we're hard done by refs. Warriors absolutely could have not earned more good will with this pandemic, and we still get dudded.

Yeah I'm really disappointed in that and I expected better. It's almost a free ride to screw us over and over from now on.

“Front row was lacking without Lodge, Pene seems to be more of a 2nd rower to me.”

The score was 8-0 (+8) when Pene left the field in the 22nd minute with HIA.

6-8 when he came back on in the 36th min and 8-8 (-2) when he left again in 49th. 14-22 Roosters when he came back on in 74th and finished like that.

His minutes were a +6 swing. This is the third time in a loss we’ve still won Pene’s minutes.

Finished 3rd to only Addin Fonua-Blake and Curran for yards in the pack.

Defensively the middle was not nearly as robust without his mobility in the middle.

Also our middles had to deal with our back 5 yardage struggles, they’re the ones who start most sets and they didn’t get us a rolling at all.

Speaking of which..
We need a new centre next season, Pompey just isn't it.

Pompey v Arthars

Pompey
16 runs/131 metres.
Edge leaked no trys.

Arthars
6 runs/55 metres.
Edge leaked 3 trys.

Arthars is our best good ball centre and will score plenty of flashy tries this year, but in games against good teams where we’ve got to grind we need more than 6 carries.

Defensively, Pompey has now kept a clean sheet against Staggs, Hiku, and Manu. That’s nothing to sneeze at.

Just watched the presser. Just piss weak. NB should've 100% called the shit NRL officiating and bunker out in his presser. Nah, instead he goes on to defend an opposition player and says he shouldn't be suspended. Come on now Browny.

Now would have been the best time to call the bullshit out, especially when other teams, such as the Gold Coast and Cowboys, are speaking out about the favouritism shown to these so called glamor clubs and getting far too many 'rub of the green' calls.

Missed opportunity.

I get Brown not wanting to come off like a sook, but man, he had a chance to say anything, and the one thing he chooses to do — as our coach, in our press conference — is call out the high tackle on Kosi and defend a Roosters player.

Came off like bootlicking of the highest order.

The start to second half was horrible. It needs to be drummed into Walsh that he cant at any cost afford to kick the ball out on the full. If he cannot do that, he cannot kick off. That was a big catalyst for what ensued in the second half.
Exactly.

As much as that 10-15 min period of horrid reffing in the 2nd half FEELS like an excuse as to why we lost, we actually had the rub of the green (I thought) in the first half, and plenty of opportunities to capitalise on the Roosters lethargic start to the game.

We were good to get to 8-0 but didn't really threaten from there. Didn't take advantage of some good opportunities to pile on more points - which would of came in handy once the eventual "level up" calls would come from the refs.

But the start of the 2nd half just invited the Roosters back into the game, which they took and ran with it (abiet with some help to truly rule us out).

Disappointed that Brown didnt even say anything about the reffing in the press conference. The journos we’re digging for him to ssy something but he kept defecting. The only thing he did mention was that he hoped Radley didn’t get suspended for the tackle on Kosi.

Fuck Radley and fuck the Rorters!
Fuck me, why the fuck do we even bother.

I am pleased he didn't complain.
There are things we did this game to lose it ourselves.
Dallin Watene-Zelezniak needs to make that high ball catch, and there needed to be better blockers in front of him as Tuiponua completely unsighted him instead of being run off the ball.
Secondly the Walsh kick out on the full was the losing of the match. Let all the air out of tires.
Maybe Johnson should do the kick offs. Shaun viewed that kick off as the losing of the game in his interview.

What Tajhay is hinting at, I think in his post, is that the way the NRL works is that if you play like Boobs then the refs will dud you later in the game. Or if he wasn't inferring that then that is my ongoing theory I have posted many times before.
Bottom celler teams get shafted and teams that make crap plays like kicking out on the full or stupid knock ons upset the refs and they decide to make sure you don't win.

Egan got penalised in the first half (roosters took the 2) for having his hand on the ball, no strip and Roosters player dropped it cold.
Same thing happens to Addin Fonua-Blake and ref calls dropped ball.
The Pompey one was a joke, he was clearing his leg out of the truck and it kicked up after comming off I think it was CTH's thigh.

Have to love the two different articles.

The Stuff one. Which one of you guys wrote this?

The preview had at times it seemed like it wasn't 13 on 13. Actually cover the game in a bit of detail. I don't typically read post match articles much anymore.

Then NewsHub.

Clinical Roosters. Ok the start of the second half was poor and the Roosters took advantage of our mistakes but there was a bit more to the game than that.

The old saying its all fish and chip paper now is pretty accurate. If you miss the game and read post match articles you could thing a side was shit when in fact there was a bit more to it.

Very disappointing from the coach. Just get on your knees Browny.

I'm going off what i've seen of Pompey through out his career, he hasn't really impressed me. Arthars has far more potential. Pompey can be solid enough but I feel we can do better.

The whole team was playing better during the first 20 than they did the rest of the game, it's a bit of a stretch to put that down to the impact of Pene. He doesn't have the same impact in contact situations and got monstered plenty of times. I don't see him as a starting prop and it’s a big drop in size when he’s replacing Lodge or Addin Fonua-Blake. He could go mean as an edge backrower
