Team Update: Harris ruled out

Captain Tohu Harris Harris has been ruled out with utility Dylan Walker named to replace him for the One New Zealand Warriors’ fifth-round NRL encounter with Cronulla-Sutherland at PointsBet Stadium tomorrow (4.05pm kick-off local time; 6.05pm NZT).

Harris hasn’t recovered from the knee injury which forced him off the field early in the second half of Sunday’s 16-14 win over Canterbury-Bankstown.

Walker has been moved from the interchange to start at loose forward with Josh Curran coming onto the bench for his third appearance of the season after missing the last two matches against North Queensland and the Bulldogs.

In Harris’ absence hooker Wayde Egan, returning from a week out after being concussed, will take over as captain.

Hooker Freddy Lussick is 18th man and fullback Taine Tuaupiki 19th.

With standoff Te Maire Martin ruled out through concussion this week, 20-year-old Ronald Volkman partners the in-form Shaun Johnson in the halves for the third time in his three-match NRL career.

Volkman has been in fine touch in the New South Wales Cup where he has helped the One New Zealand Warriors to a three wins-one loss record to sit third on the ladder.

He is one off the lead for try assists and line break assists with five of each and has the most kicks (53) and kick metres (1296). He is also averaging 95 per cent with the boot after kicking 19 goals.

The One New Zealand Warriors’ 3-1 start to the season is one of the best in the club’s history, bettered only once (four from four in 2018) but the club now enters another testing phase with the second of two back-to-back road assignments in the opening six rounds.

They travelled to the Roosters and North Queensland in rounds two and three and have been handed a second dose with the Sharks and the Knights on the road in the next two weeks.

After four rounds the One New Zealand Warriors have the best completion rate (83 per cent), the most line breaks (25) and line break assists (20), the third most runs (755) and the third most kick return metres (746).

The Sharks, fortified by the return of Dally M winner Nicho Hynes, are also among the competition’s best in a number of categories.

Lying sixth two points behind the fourth-placed One New Zealand Warriors, Cronulla has scored the most points (108) and most tries (19), has the most try assists (18) and is second for most line breaks (23) and line break assists (19).

Chances took a big dive without out two best back rowers since most of our game is around back row attack and defence...especially running the opposition off their feet by spreading the ball.
Could be in for a bit of a hiding, hope not.

But no Tohu Harris no Barnett and no Martin is pretty fkd up.

I don’t mind it. We probably aren’t ready to beat the sharks right now anyway. Get Te Maire Martin, Harris, Barnett ready for next week against the knights.

A lot of people saying this.

I just worry that this new team culture has come from years of damaged goods.

Sharks are real top four most think.

I know we should be more resilient, but that is easily said. Also this is Volkmans shot. Wish he was getting a winnable scenario as an intro to the big time. I say this is his shot meaning a look at him in the new look side.

Pisses me off we cannot have nice weapons when the big fight comes along.

Knights look great since we got our win over them, they look really consistent, a top eight contender for sure.

Sup (& I am including myself), I think we may be the ones with PTSD over previous seasons results. I'm certainly apprehensive about this game. Tbh I've been apprehensive about them all.
I'm not sure the players feel the same though. The results show they have had a good start and they look happy. The Sharks look good and will.be a real test. I believe our lads will approach this game believing we can play well.
No matter the result I have seen enough to believe the Warriors are no longer a club where players careers come to die. And over time that will help our recruitment.

I find being cautious about every game helps a lot to deal with the losses when they come. Plus it is the NRL, no one has a right to expect to win any game on any weekend because that is the very nature of this comp, anyone can beat anyone on their day, and sides rise against us and play their best, it is what bullies do to minnows.,...blood in the water and all that.

I spose I just dont wanna see us thrashed and demoralized.

I went back and looked at our best rebuild year, 2001.

We basically went win loss win loss through the bulk of the year, staying in touch, then poured on four desperate wins on the trot to break into our first finals.

That would be great to see again....hanging in there all season then fighting hard at the end for a spot.

Especially given we are on the hard side of the draw.

It just shits me that our injuries are always to people in form.

I have never seen Volkman play. Can he kick?
He's a seven so I'll say he has the tools. In the bag. How sharp the tools are, is a different story,

But under the circumstances I got full confidence in him. Webster is instilling all his players, that he trusts that they can do the job.

And in the grand scheme Te Maire Martin only puts a few up weekly so Volkman can chuck in a couple of need be.

I could not imagine travelling back and fourth to AU and NZ every week no matter how much you paid me. Especially the big boppas, how the fuck they manage that in economy man.

Packing all your shit, driving to the airport , the check in, waiting for your shit and then getting buses back to the hotel. Nightmare

Really quite excited by the fact that if we can win tomorrow we will be second on the ladder!
Super excited to watch tomorrows game! If we can shut down their play makers (aka Nicho Hynes) and continue improving our game from the weeks before we got this! So glad to have Wayde Egan back and pumped to see Ronald Volkman play! Pumped to see the WHOLE team play! UP THE WARRIORS LESSSSSGO
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

What do we make of Tevaga on the bench and Walker evidently playing Lock?

To me it says Webby wants to see if Egan is an 80 Minuter, given what he's said about Tevaga previously.

They clearly want to keep to the short passing gameplan

Move the big Sharkies forwards around early.

Curran really for me is a crash line runner with an offload.

Earlier in the week I wanted Curran to start to protect our successful bench strategy but now I'm thinking the bench strategy has been successful because of the early ball shits from our middles.

Walker can definitely play 80 and might spell Egan if needed

Sounds like rain over there, hopefully all our pre season training in our wet summer has them in good stead.

Pray pray pray for rain

Soft track will really help us. Sharks tend to favour shifting it for their star wingers.

That won't be as effective in the wet

Yeah rain until 10/11 am and then cloudy all day! Should soften the track! The rain is pretty heavy at the moment! Hopefully work to our advantage! 😛
