On Volkman starting

They will probably have Shaun Johnson handle everything and Volkman won't get many touches all game.
Hopefully he tackles a lot better than he did in the trial.

Been looking at our stats over the first 4 rounds.

We don't have a single player in the top 50 for supports, but we have 7 players in the top 50 for decoy runs and 4 of those in the top 16.

What does that mean? Eh, I dunno, something something attacking shape and bodies in motion. Just found it really interesting, and thought I'd pointlessly share on this random Tuesday afternoon.
This is actually a good sign. For so long the warriors haven't had enough support runners. Meaning we got dominated in the ruck.

Noone in the top 50 for supports is ok, because with 7 in the top 50 for decoys, it just means they're not using the option runners right now. Decoy runners means there is more space out wide.

Tohu Harris is 50/50 this week.

Some other stats after 4 rounds.

Warriors completion rate 83% (1st in NRL)
Line breaks 25 (1st)
Line break assists 20 (1st)
Most runs 755 (3rd)
Kick return metres 746 (3rd)

Good stats to start the season.

No Barnett?

Shaun Johnson needs to help Volkman find a voice out there, every time a new half goes in with Shaun Johnson they get intimidated and become invisible, even happens at international level with the likes of Foran.

Ultimately it is up to Volkman but Shaun Johnson needs to find a way to support his buddy to do shit out there for his own sake.
Yeah they'll need to work something out. Volkman will need to be more than just a link man sitting out on his edge.

Obviously most play will go through Shaun (and rightfully so) they'll need to get Volkman into the game early tho as a genuine playmaking option just to get that defence looking the other way. Sharks are going to go hard marking up on Shaun, i'd be letting Volkman take the first couple of 5th tackle play's......Shaun can roll into it after that.

In saying that tho the Sharks have strike right across the board, this is game our forwards are going to have to take into the gutter if we're any chance.

As far as that Kiwi Foran/ S J combo was concerned tho i thought it was the perfect complement. Foran played hard and straight at the line letting Shaun do his magic out the back......no coincidence that was the period of dominance we had over the Aussies in the mid 2010s.

Yeah the signs are good, although stats this year are a bit of a pain in the A because of the buy week. Have to switch it to averages to get a better idea, but even then it seems to only count 3 games for everyone when some have played 4 so not a true representation.

Curious to see what direction we go if Harris is out (although would prefer he wasn't). Does Curran come onto the bench with Jazz or Ale in the starting side at lock? Maybe even Lussick comes onto the bench (smallest bench ever?). freeing up Sironen to be just a forward rather than hooker alternate?

Curran is listed 18 - so he must be on stand by to come into the side for Harris.

I wonder if they have stood down Te Maire Martin and Barnett 50% because they aren't quite right and 50% because it is the Sharks and we figure we are long shot to win and they want some fresh troops for the following week's must win game against the Knights.
I see what you are getting at but Curran was at 18 last week as well.

It would be nice to get a fan/member's report on injuries from the club. I thought Barnett was sweet a couple of days after his neck complaint. He is such a big out too, and I think he is the kind of player we can't do without against the Sharks forward pack.

Due to the nature of Metcalf's injury I'd imagine that it is hard to determine his status, but it would be nice to get a generalised update on how he is tracking.

Mitchell and Dallin are showing as round 6 now. Must still be 50/50.

I don’t think Webster thinks that way. He is all about going out to win every game

Yeah saw that too. I'm sure I remember Webster suggesting that he was fine after his scans. Still nerve damage lingers.

My main point is that it would be a really nice touch for fan engagement if we received something a bit more personal with a little more info.

Very concerning for Mitch Barnett - more serious than they are letting on. Didn’t he have knock surgery at the Knight?

Not too worried about the team but Volkman will get targeted hard on defence and without Tohu Harris (will be late exclusion) Egan will get knocked out again by their big forwards.

Not 100% certain by any means but i'd suggest this means we're doing most our ball playing before the line with multiple option support runners.......given we're leading the linebreak stakes seems to be working a treat.

Te Maire Martin cannot take risks with his head, he probably should not even be playing contact sports, but it is his choice ultimately and he must be medically cleared, but I would think they will have him on cotton wool for any head bumps.

Barnett Dunno. You would hope they would put their best foot forward if he is fit against the Sharks.

I mean if they are thinking Tohu Harris then they want to win this game. Barnett must be still rooted.
