Devils advocate..

1- hasn’t actually played origin.
6- kinda funny that was the best wrap u could give him.
7- fact
9- I don’t think many fans from outside our club would agree.

I can live with our spine because (imo) we have a very good forward pack but u take Addin Fonua-Blake, Harris and tevaga out and it ain’t looking so flash.
The battle of the spines will likely be decided by who can dominate the middle.
If Addin Fonua-Blake plays I like our chances.
What's the opposite of Devil's advocate for my response?

Mother Theresa's Advocate as follows
1) You know and we all know he is a shoo in for this year. Mark it down as Origin Squad player given his involvement last year as a compromise.
2) Other wraps I could have given were courageous player? But yeah his defence is his asset at the moment. Te Maire Martin didn't do much and basically rode morgans coat tails to a grand final. So Chanel Harris-Tavita wouldn't be far off Te Maire Martin quality (I don't rate Te Maire Martin)
3) OK one fact granted
4) Here are the Hookers who will start round 5 with my comments

Knights Chris Randall - Meh
Manly - Croker - Meh
Cowboys - Robson - I like this dude let's list him as equal to Egan
Broncos - Turpin - Flatters to deceive - Egan is better, Paix need to see more of him to decide
Rooster - Connor Watson - he is not a specialist Hooker and is a utility. Egan is better. Raiders - Starling - he is as you find him. Most like him let's say better than Egan
Storm - Grant - better than Egan, So is Cheese when he plays there
Dragons - McCullough - Serviceable not better than Egan
Souths - Cook off the boil in last 12 months but on reputation better than Egan
Titans - Clark Meh
Eels - Mahoney better than Egan
Sharks - Brailey better than Egan
Tigers Liddle - not better than Egan
Dogs Marshall King meh
Panthers - Korisau - better than Egan

Egan is 8th equal with Robson

Haha didn’t realize u were only talking about this week Theresa.
U make a decent case then- I’d have Robson ahead of Egan but we’ll see how they go tomorrow, although again that battle will likely be decided by who’s playing on the front foot.

Just to clarify instead of "this week" what is a more standard comparison for across the NRL?

I can't include long term injured players like the other Brailey or Hodgson

Also I want to add as a second comment that I rate Robson as well and think he is a real asset to his team.

I would’ve included those two players but whatever- I didn’t actually look through the names- don’t mind Egan but would’ve thought he’d be around 10-12 at a guess.

Savour these games when Shaun Johnson and Walsh are together, Years from now we will be talking about this season when we had Shaun Johnson and Reece together.
I am trying to think of a better warriors spine in the last 5 years
The Candidates
are
2017) Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Foran, Luke, Shaun Johnson
2018) Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Green, Luke, Shaun Johnson
2022) Walsh, Chanel Harris-Tavita, Egan, Shaun Johnson

Is Walsh better than Roger Tuivasa-Sheck? Egan is probably better than 2017/2018 Luke
I guess will have to see if Chanel Harris-Tavita kicks on in the next few games.

Speaking of which Chanel Harris-Tavita, according to pre-season articles, was supposed to be judged over his first 6-8 games before a definitive call was made on him by the Warriors.
Seems after 4 games the jury is still out and that anything is sill possible for him.
Re Chanel Harris-Tavita: from what i remember he was offered a contract (minimum i assume) but didn't accept it as he has come out and said he wants to test his value on the market.

Boys and Men of the forum our coach has gone to bat for the warriors.
You know how Payten made that statement about reffing decisions being hard on bottom teams and easy on top teams - Brown is saying in this article Payten complained about reffing just to influence the refs this week against the warriors and that Payten should stick to his coaching rather than worry about reffing.
This is awesome by Brown. Probably if he said nothing then the refs would have given Payten some even up penalties tomorrow to make up for his three yellow cards last week

Egans issue has been his speed, in run or pass from the PTB. Hes improved that. But hes still not quick enough. Id like to see him keep improving.

But I cant put Egan in top 8 right at this point. Maybe if he trajectory keeps going up, by end of season with the other high quality spine players. End of last year and I was hoping he was gone with Kodi. But now Im thinking he might have just been a late bloomer. Hes tough, I like that about him. Hes no longer niggling with the markers which annoyed the crap out of me.

I would say judge him mid season. If hes top 8 he will have produced some excellent offensive plays by then. It would be nice if he could kick.

Speaking of kick, I hope Shaun Johnson aims up solidly for the 40/20s or 20/40s. Just like drop goals, I dont get why people struggle with these kicks. DCE aces them. If ya got some distance it just takes some practise and choosing the right set, but its not that hard a quick if you kick it more from the centre to give a better (but longer) angle.

If it goes to Golden point then in Shaun Johnson we have someone who can nail them.

On Egan thanks for your post here - value your analysis on him. It read well.
He has improved from last year. This is Egan's 5th season. He is running more now.

The interview with payten was interesting also, saying we dont use shapes in attack like any other teams.
Maybe brownies is quite unique in his style

Nah not just Brownie as much as Id like to dish out more criticism to him haha, gotta be real. Its something I been banging on about for years with our spine and our outside backs formation with dummy runners (the difference between a dumb runner and a dummy runner is a dumb runner takes off too late and gets the ball passed into his shoulder, not naming anyone ;-p). The difference is we have no shape (outside the last game) in comparison to Aus teams, its been more one out stuff. Lets hope last weekend wasnt a one off.

I think we use to have shape under Cleary, definitely. We were starting to get shape in 2018 and I think offense was next on SK's "processes" 2019, but the spine cull ruined that.

I think the last match we had shape, it wasnt to the level Id expect, but Shaun Johnson imo certainly had the rest of the team knowing where they should be (with the occasional forward late on his angle run or an outside back being too far back).

Really as we all know, offense is about knowing the play, you adjust your line or your depth based on that, ie if Shaun Johnson is going to run draw and pass to the centre, the centre should know to be up and flat.

I really hope to see more players in motion this week.

Im hoping Billy has told Walsh "dont look at me, look at Papanhuzen, he is much better offensively", and Walsh starts sniffing around Addin Fonua-Blake, Egan etc and Egan starts taking on the single markers and offside players (running behind them) and then offloading to a flying Walsh who will have holes galore to run through.

Im not sure Brown will have a huge influence, the team is developing into real offensive capabilities that they should know how to run these drills themselves, but no doubt somebody must be running offense drills at training.... (just not defensive ones lol). I shouldnt jest, our edge was infinitely better than the games Berry played in (left edge?).

This could be a really smart ploy by Nathan Brown, by not bitching to the media and taking a stance of the players taking lessons out of the calls not going their way. The nrl if they have any sense should respect the attitude Browns displayed as he’s essentially defended the refs.

We have a ref who last reffed in 2019 tonight. He could be a real mixed bag for both teams.
