Does the bunker actually see what we see?

I remember at the time that it was going to be a revelation because the bunker had 9+ angles that they could cycle through independently.

Yet when we see a replay it seems to be controlled by what the bunkers are checking for, and you can often tell what they are going to rule by what they are focusing on.

It is a giant fucking enigma. I'm not nearly bothered by the refereeing as much as the inconsistent bunker. I'd even take the ambiguous 6 again over the bunker. It is staggering how much they get wrong.

The bunker sees all available angles simultaneously on multiple monitors, with at least 2 review officials watching. The broadcaster then picks one of those angles to display, probably based on the context of what they're hearing from the bunker.

You can see inside the bunker here

There was a hugely interesting 'long-read' in the UK Guardian about Premiere League officiating.

A good section of it looked at VAR (the Premiere Leagues Bunker system).

I don't know about Bunkers inner workings but VAR is administered in a completely silent room. No commentary, no crowd noice.

Their criticism is that without the sound it can distort what you are looking at. I would judge the bunker to have similar issues.
I don’t think VAR itself is the bigger problem, it’s ended the arguments about offsides for starters. The problems are the interpretation of handball as you have pointed out plus the innumerable number of cheating kernts who currently play the game and know how to win a penalty by falling into a tackle

Good start to the season. I thought we’d lost that when Ado Carr went the length of the field. Only seen the highlights tbh, I can see the Dogs making the eight when their new signings blend in and I feel we will as well

Would probably help if the person making the decision in the box wasn't Australian too.

Just a random note that Freddy Lussick had 47 kicking metres in the weekend, while Egan hasn't had one this year; in fact, Freddy kicked for more than half as many metres in that game alone as Egan had the entirety of last year (78).

I don't recall any of Freddy's kicks really coming off wonders, other than a couple of times the Bulldogs played at the ball, and we got it back for a repeat set, but it adds that extra layer so I would like to see Egan pull the trigger every now and then.

Egan, to use a well-worn-out term, is playing really great eyes-up footy so far this year, so surely if he can tell when to scoot, he can also spot an opening and pop a grubber in from time to time, or even go for a 40/20 if he has a big enough boot.

I just saw the Dogs as having more strike players, as well as being up for a physical fight.
Webby is, IMHO, doing a fantastic job identifying an opponents strengths and nullifying it.

The Sharks are top 4 material. Nico was on fire last game. Once their back 5 gets any space they are gone. We are going to get torched on the outside, and our only hope is to drag them into the trenches and beat them to death.
Niukore on Nico is a must, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is probably needed, and god knows how we stop Talakai
The Raiders beat them! 🤣 Time to take the trash out! 🤣 Warriors by 13+

His defence is a problem, breaks the line a lot and misses when he comes out a lot, until he fixes that I can't see him being a regular starter in first grade.
Agree, he let in the first try for the doggies, he got caught in 2 minds, instead of going for his center, looked like he hesitated thinking about going in on bunties man (the no:7), and he ended up getting no one, created overlap for the winger to score. needs morre experience in reserves to read the play.

Still think he has a future and worth persevering with for now. No outstanding options IMO

I thought he was just ball watching. he lined up fine on his opposite before the play began but as he's coming up his eyes never leave the halfback and his opposite is on an angled run drifting outside him. Dogs halfback did a great job keeping his eyes engaged and just had to put the ball in the right spot.

Good line, good pass, just a lack of awareness and experience from Vailea. Hopefully a good learning experience.

Im not sure if the rules have changed, but if everything went our way in this case. Pompey scored the try after the illegal strip and regather. So it should be try awarded playing the advantage, plus a penalty. First conversion from usual try scoring position and then penalty kick from directly in front.
That is probably correct but if I understand that correctly they save that for something serious like foul play. the way I saw it was advantage play on, try in the corner.

Difference between Lussick and Egan is night and day. Lussick was so gassed in the first 20 minutes, offered zero creativity or attack and didnt get our forwards on the front front or over the advantage line. His service is slow and lumbersome and made the lethargic doggies line look quick ,

Get him out the team and have Jazz or Walker run the 9 with Curran coming on to the bench.
I don't mind Lussick. Granted he's a bit below grade with the speed because he's been in Reserves a slower comp to be fair.

He did well I feel for his first hit out. Didn't over play his hand made his tackles and I think personally his passing is better than Egan.

But where Egan stands out is in his running game, and sleight of movement at the ruck to buy time for outsides.

Be nice if Egan chucked a kick in now and then to change the focal point for variations sake.

Was it just me or did anyone else not really enjoy the game too much? I was a bundle of nerves throughout the whole match and had to remind myself to breathe, and relax and that it was just a game.
Unfortunately with our defensive style all the matches we play are going to be 18-14 or some such nail biting score. So there many more of these matches to come.
I want us to win a match by 30 points like the sharks did so I can breathe easy in the last twenty minutes,.

It is much better than last year where I was just swearing and turning the TV off after 30 minutes.

I refused to watch last year. This year I have seen all the games except this one against the dogs. Only saw last 30 minutes due to kids sports. Based on that 30 minutes I thought we absolutely dominated them. Have been catching up on the rest of the game and so far looks like two fairly well coached teams with a new lease of life going at each other
