I don't post much anymore but with that said … UP THE FUCKEN BOYZZZ

It was an imperfect performance, but without Egan and Barnett, plus losing Tohu Harris during the game, I was so impressed with our forwards. Jazz had one of his best games in a long time. As much as I think he’s a flog, Walker was close to man of the match with his niggle and enthusiasm. Ed Kosi and Montoya did a ton of heavy lifting getting us up the field. Johnson had probably his best game for us since coming back.

But the thing I was happiest with is the final 10 minutes. Our concentration and starch in defence frustrated the Dogs into making some poor plays. That resolute defence is the kind of thing I would have killed for last year and it’s been a common factor 4 games in.

I’m really really liking what Webster is bringing to the team. For me it is the way the guys are enjoying their footy. Making a huge difference

Also - is it just me or does everybody seem a step faster?

I think this is missed in in the flood of wrong calls but the Shaun Johnson strip was probably the worst call.

How can you strip the ball without touching the ball? Surely pulling the arm can only results in a loose carry?

Very interesting that the Bulldogs went for the 2. It showed their mindset and the respect they had for us. Less than 5 minutes later we got a penalty about 30m out right in front and for a second I wondered if we would take the 2. We didn’t even consider it, which showed our confidence.
They lost the game by going for two

We need a specialist 9 and when Egans out it has to be Lussick.

Our game play is fitness based and amongst the quickest in the comp, which puts all the stress onto the hooker to keep up. Very demanding.

Egans been running on fumes and it’s probably contributing to his knocks due to fatigue.

With our uptempo game plan we almost need 2 specialist hookers.
I agree Lussick should be in the 17 ahead of Siro on the bench

Annesley's weekly briefing covered the Pompey/Kikau strip but he refused to make a call on whether it was correct or not, just said it could have gone either way.

Also covered the Shaun Johnson try and did come out and say that it was the correct call as Addin Fonua-Blake was a support runner not a lead runner, and he "can't just disappear"
But I was reliably told by Brandy that Shaun Johnson's try was absolutely never a try???

How could it ever be a penalty try??
I would have thought it would either have been play on and the try allowed or a penalty for the strip because I thought a penalty try could only be awarded if an illegal play had definitely prevented a certain try.... which I don't think was the case.

I have thought all day about why that game was so so difficult to win when we looked much better on paper.

Finally an expression came to me from the 1970s

The Bulldogs style of play is hard case.
They off load the ball at will, keep it alive on the second tackle and attack you from anywhere making it hard to settle into an arm wrestle against them.
They are feisty and ferrocious tacklers and they believe in themselves, their coaching system and their game plan.

They are damn hard to beat and I can see why they beat the Storm.
They also don't infringe much, give away many penalties, and are highly disciplined.
They also don't turn over the ball much and completed at 81% yesterday.

This was a hard hard match and they are a hard case team.

Unfortunately they are a team we play twice and we have them again in Round 11.

They match up really well with their strengths and weaknesses against us

Mr Frank White you called the result with the Cows.
Then you correctly said the Dogs would be a harder opponent than the Cows.

What is your call against the Sharks?

SJs stats are getting better and better. I thought Martin was putting in too, but he had next to nothing offensively to Shaun Johnson and he actually only put in one kick. I dont like this situation. I like Martin, I dont know what the problem is. Im very close to calling for Metcalf getting a crack. We all want Martin to suceed but the whole idea of depth is players fighting for spots to get better. I have faith in both Martin and our coach to help him out.

It is also a coaching issue though, one player being the only kick option is repetitive and rules out any chance of a 40/20.

Kikau is a grub, shouldnt have needed to go upstairs. He was clearly raking imo, sure using 2 hands around the ball is unconventional raking, its just that it is worse. How can hanging onto the ball and pulling down not be stripping, its illogical. But this is the problem with sending it upstairs with an opinion that you cant over turn. The video ref should just call what they see, not what they are told to see.

I see Gus point, but to be fair that is usually called back. Imo the defender only chose to take Addin Fonua-Blake because he knew he had no hope of reaching johnson, you could see it in the last second way Reece changed toward Addin Fonua-Blake. So despite being correct, going on consistency is was wrong, but so what, makes up for the Kikau one.

I dont see Kikau lasting outside the structure of Penrith, hes pretty fragile and I think he needs the winning team to bring out the best in his on confidence.

He was not allowed to play at the ball, there were two in the tackle.

My whole issue with this is that Shaun Johnson went up to the ref and said 'what was I penalized for', to which the ref said he had his hand on the ball.
Shaun Johnson said to Cappy 'use the review, I did NOT have my hand on the ball'.
Which, technically is correct as his hand wasn't on the ball.
I would have been more than happy had the ref come back and said challenge is correct, he didn't have his hand on the ball however it is still a penalty based on what he has done (Shaun Johnson grabbed his arm which made him drop the ball).

It's daylight robbery that Shaun Johnson clarified that the penalty was hand on the ball, and his hand was NEVER on the ball yet still gets penalized for it!

Sharks are going to be tough, some real strike power in offense. I dont think its possible to shut Hynes game down, but they do lean on him quite heavy so I would expect him to be targeted all the same. Kennedy is a freak, so good in so many departments.

Even though this last game was a close one, the Warriors played the better game, the majority of the Doggies tries were against the grain. Would be hard case if the Warriors played that well and lost, although its happened in our history plenty of times haha. But this is clearly a different team. I know they aiming for a premiership. But Id be happy making the 8. We just got to keep wiinning 3 in every 4 and we should be banging on the top 4 door. Most of all, we just have to keep getting bettter and better on defense. The possibilities are endless with this squad and this coach.
