Daejarn Asi and Viliami Vailea have earned recalls for the Vodafone Warriors’ third Homecoming Series clash against the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs at Mount Smart Stadium on Friday (8.00pm kick-off).
With long-term signing Ronald Volkman out of contention for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, Asi joins Shaun Johnson in the halves for the sixth time this season after last appearing in the round 19 encounter with Canberra.

Vailea (19) is back in the NRL side for his seventh appearance this season but his first since breaking his jaw against the Newcastle Knights on May 28.
He was impressive earlier in the season, scoring five tries in six games. He comes back into the NRL after turning out for feeder club Redcliffe in Queensland’s Hostplus Cup; he was one of three Vodafone Warriors players to score tries in the Dolphins’ 28-18 win over Wynnum-Manly last weekend.
His recall results in the experienced Euan Aitken being moved back to the second row while Asi is in for Wayde Egan, who reverts to his specialist role at hooker after wearing the #6 jersey against the Rabbitohs last week. Freddy Lussick moves back to the interchange.
As well as Aitken resuming his second rower’s role alongside Jack Murchie, there’s a forced change at loose forward with Aaron Pene (leg contusion) ruled out this week resulting in Josh Curran being named to start in #13.

Match: Warriors v Bulldogs

Venue:Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland
ir first encounter at Mount Smart Stadium since the opening round of the 2019 season, a match the Vodafone Warriors won 40-6. That day Marcelo Montoya was in the centres for the Bulldogs but now has the same role for the home side against his old club.
Prop Bunty Afoa, another survivor from that match, will play his 20th consecutive match of the season, the only player in the squad to feature in every game.

This will be the 41st contest between the two clubs with the Bulldogs 21-17 ahead on the winning ledger with two matches drawn. In matches at Mount Smart the teams have an even 10-10 record in 20 games while the Vodafone Warriors have won the last three and five of the last seven.
However, while the Vodafone Warriors have been battling to find winning form the Bulldogs have been resurgent rebounding from just two wins in their first 13 matches to win four of their last seven.

We beat the Bulldogs we stay away from the Spoon
Will have to defuse Burtons kicks and not give the Fox too much space to have a chance, also need to make sure we're wrapping up Pangai Jr so he isn't able to offload too much. I like the team though, nice to see Egan back to 9 and Pene out, unfortunate for him with an injury though, wonder if that would of changed his selection. I think if we come with intent we will be in with a chance but depends on the attitude of our players.

The Bulldogs are favourites - not by much mind you, but we seem to be playing with much more effort at home in the last 2 games there against Tigers and Storm so if we can show some of that I think we can bring it home.

So they leave katoa out, he signs with another team then we bring him back… 🤔
Last week no asi because we’re trying to win games- guess we don’t want to win this week?
I’ve given up trying to work out what they’re thinking with the line ups we’ve been putting out- it’s all very odd.

Wonder if they wanted to see if Egan can fill in at five eighth in the future when injuries are bad in the squad. Him not really successful in the role might see Asi re signed if he can deliver defensively as well as on attack. Webster could be wanting to see players in certain positions for depth?

Thank you very much Stacey. I agree with all the decisions you made if feedback from one fan helps. Must have been hard to pivot on some of last week's calls but glad you did so. I apologise for lashing out at last week's selections we would have lost no matter who we put on the paddock as beating a top 8 team at the tail end of the season when they have a lot to play for is beyond most celler dweller teams.
I feel very releived with the team picked but also saddened that young Volkman is out injured for the rest of the season. If Asi gets injured next go Sironen at 6.
