es he completed all his tackles and made no errors but he was barely able to keep up with the play and it showed in his stats.
I put that down to lack of experience. They were on the wrong side of ruck distance all through the game, it was Shaun Johnson's kicking that was keeping them in the game. Forwards take a while to learn the trade. The Northern Poms used to say about 6 years.

Mr Brownstone

He outplayed Xavier Savage and some of the posters were gaga over Te Maire Martin and I don't see much difference in what Chanel Harris-Tavita has contributed recently at fullback and what Te Maire Martin has done.
Mediocre by NRL standards but I disagree with below average.
He looked like he could do a job for a number of NRL teams based on his performance.
I take the phrase medioicre by NRL standards to be a huge compliment for a 2022 Warriors player. How many of our other dudes were NRL standard? Egan probably? Maybe only 5-6 other men in the side.
I know you want us to be good right now. But that ain't happening. Let's step up to finishing 10th next year and then maybe better talent will come here as we get more consistent.
We need years to turn this ship around and right now in the 2022 and 2023 horizons being a mediocre NRL player is something we should aspire to right now. If we can get 1 through 17 all being NRL mediocre that would be a big move from the current 5 to 6 who currently are.
Completely agree with your Te Maire Martin comment. As a fullback I thought he was a ball hog with a poor running game - not a great combination.

Yep.

Given we are going to have a 4 halves (not counting Egan who is a real 9 now), fighting for 2 spots, and Metcalf scores some insane tries from long range with pace that doesnt stop over 100m, whether at half or FB, I think its worth a game of putting Walsh on our wing, just to simulate what the cut out pass/overlap to insane pace looks like with Metcalf.

A bit like SoO, sometimes you have to find a spot for your best players. Just not sure which one I'd give a rest, Montoya or D WZ. Probably Dalin, given Montoya is making a lot of hit ups and is also doing a good job defusing kicks.

Im looking at next years team and thinking, if we cannot make the 4 with this team we never will.

You got 3 full backs and all 3 are players I want in the team. For me, Id play Martin at FB and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad at centre as hes a bit more sizeable. But then there is the extreme pace of Metcalf, you have Shaun Johnson at 7, you have to play Metcalf at 6 given we need X factor and pace, so I presume Volkman slowly fills in for 6 or 7 (even though hes more like Stacey than Shaun Johnson) and Shaun Johnson slowly helps him prepare for the 7 role.....

Walker plays 14, Niukore I presume plays back rower, which for me means we still have a centre spot and IMO it would be silly not to offer Arthars a contract given how consistently good he has been for the Warriors and wants to play for the Warriors and wont get a show in at the Broncs now that they are flying. Which would push Pompey back to our reserve centre, which would be a great option to have, with hopefully Vailea getting some quality defensive coaching and applying it when NRL Reserve Grade starts again next year in earnest.

What Im seeing is a lot of our current rocks or diamonds players, are going to have to fight to retain their spot under healthy competition, which can only help drive motivation.

On paper, its hard to see us doing rubbish again next year. But then I thought that this year on paper. But, there is a lot more experienced first graders next year.
Metcalf’s not playing on the wing, he’s a creator.

Our average set distance was 33.33 metres, which was the the second worst of any team on the weekend, marginally better than the Sharks who were up against the Pathers.
Yeah, I get the average bit, was commenting on the first half. Second half was a train wreck.

One thing this game realised is that Walsh should probably not play another game for us this year unless injuries dictate.

Chanel Harris-Tavita is a fullback, once he gets better at field positioning, Wighton took advantage of the rookie.

We still haven't learned how to wrestle momentum back after losing it. IMO that's down to a lack of on field leadership In rugby league, momentum is everything. Once you have to play catch up football with the clock winding down, the whole perspective changes. We have no game breakers in that regard nor a game plan to get us back into the lead, yet.

I cannot understand how Ms Badger can see exactly the same thing we all do but come to a completely different opinion. That was pretty bad tonight and not the first time we have been on some dud calls from her. I always thought we got a fair deal from her husband, has he retired?

While the Raiders came back and won, I can't see them progressing too far, lot of inconsistencies in their game. If that was the Panthers, they would have been down 30 points at halftime.

Overall, I think we're playing better than a month ago. Not hugely, but better and the interim coach is making some good choices (other than Walsh) Unfortunately my thinking says Shaun Johnson's time is up and he should be stood down. I'd like to see Asi and Volkman start.

The average has been trash all year tbh. Funnily enough the 33m on the weekend was actually better than the last game against the raiders where we had Lodge and Addin Fonua-Blake on the field but still only managed 27m per set. There's only been 2 games all year where they've beaten the opposition in that sta, against the Knights and Broncos, even the Tigers had a better average at the Mt Smart game.

Yeah Johnson’s time to go ! predictable right hand corner bombs , long intercept passes , kicks out on the full , give the young blokes a go , (Asi,Volkman, lussick) I would release Walsh if not going to play him ! We borrowed players over Covid don’t forget! Storm want him,

Ehh where to start with this game, we started very well but weren't able to capitalise. 2 kicks which went into goal giving them 7 tackle sets, kick out on the full again, their 2 40/20s, felt like we were dominated in the kicking and also through the middle. Thought getting ahead would give the boys more excitement and energy but too often I see them get ahead and then get complacent and lack energy whereas other teams seem to fire up a lot more after scoring.

Raiders are building towards finals but doesn't seem like our boys have the same motivation. Hope Webster and Tohu Harris are able to get them to turn things around next year.
