Looking forward to Fonzies breakdown, especially if he got to the game like he said - that's a whole other perspective in itself to add to the analysis.
Was really good, was sitting high up so got to see the shape and numbering etc. I

I’ll post more detail later but my overall sense was: sluggish. Parra had our measure all night and could have gone to another gear if needed.

Great, look forward to it!
Sluggish - too long between games? Anticlimactic after the homecoming & hype? Covid affect? Late game time?

Whether any, a combination, or none of the above, it has to be a goal looking forward where outside factors make little or no difference to the week-in week-out performance.

The boys before the game in the sheds looked loose and casual. I didn’t see any fire or intensity in the group huddle. Huge contrast a few weeks back at MSS.

They were too loose.

Tohu Harris looked like he just got out of bed. His hair all scruffy.

However to be fair they did all right in the first half. No pressure on their shoulders.

General thoughts on the warriors not sure which thread is best so will avoid the recruitment thread and post here.

1) Even if Tohu Harris has a lot to offer from lock from a playmaking ability we have so many other options at lock that it doesn't make sense to put him there.
If he goes 10 ten then it frees up a back row spot.

8 Pene or Acquisition Prop
9 Egan
10 Tohu Harris
11 Barnett
12 Curran
13 Niuokore

14 Jazz or Dylan Walker
15 Addin Fonua-Blake
16 Afoa
17 Murchie

28 -18 was not a fair reflection of the match. And they got one more try than what they deserved.

Wrighty's 2023 Analysis

Warriors in 2023 compared to NRL 2022 line ups in the bottom 12 teams

5) Broncos vs 2023 warriors - will be an interesting game. Think the broncos with a 3rd year Walsh will be too much for us.
6) Eels of 2022 vs 2023 warriors - Eels would beat us. Even with a new coach. but game would be tighter than what we saw two days ago
7) Rabbitohs with Latrell - Rabbitohs too much if Latrell not suspended
8) Manly with Turbo Tom = depends which Turbo shows up.
9) Roosters - They are looking stale this year. I think 2023 Warriors could pip them
10) Dragons - Reckon we will be about as good as the 2022 Dragons. Anyone's game
11) Raiders - 2023 Warriors to win comfortably
12) Knights - we can beat them
13) - 16th) - we would beat all of the cellar dweller teams

This rather simple and dirty analysis has us finishing just outside of the 8 next year. We would need to make a marquee signing for next year or Andrew Webster to be a genius coach who can get us beating teams better than us on paper.

After our shit performance the past two seasons I would take 9th next year if offered it to me now as long as we are ACTIVE come November 1 for a marquee halves signing to replace Shaun Johnson in 2024 and maybe even a second high profile spine acquisition.
Probably our cards are marked for next year but we can improve into the 8 for 2024 with a carefully considered acquisition plan. There are a ton of gun players available come November 1,

I never in a million years though I would miss Blocker & Brandy with their one eyed drivel but here we are. No alternative commentary on sky go either! Had to turn the sound off - so terrible!
There was the alternate commentary on sky 51 with the channel nine team. Didn’t recognise the main caller but Freddy and Andrew Johns provided comments. Both praised the warriors said the score didn’t reflect the effort and the eels got the bounce with the ref.

Stacey has a decision on his hands about what to do about Walsh.
The Warriors through sheer glut of chances and possession against Tigers were able to figure out the sweet spot of desired complexity in the play to score an NRL try. The Tigers played us into a but of form.
But Reece didn't play that game and didn't learn those lessons and went for overly complex plays on Friday which had a low odds of coming off. All our tries we did score were due to applying constant pressure and a simple move that paid off due to the fact we had been constantly asking questions over a period of time.

Walsh is our question. do we owe him the rest of the season? Do we shift him to 6. Or do we assume that Raiders aren;t very good and we can beat them without tinkering with our line up.

Our think tank will be chewing over all of this while eating two oreos each and a glass of milk tonight.

Glad a coach has been appointed. This teams really playing ordinary on the field, the current roster on paper suggests otherwise but the results arent there.
I'm sure Webby will be watching keenly now and taking notes on how to approach post and pre season training. But more importantly assessing the current coaching, training and other staff if theres any keepers.. (IMO with Mohawk and CGs backing, sack the lot and start afresh)

I can foresee the Bulldogs improving on the back of Kikau, Ryan Sutton & Mahoney arriving and the Tigers also welcome Koroisau & Papali'i
My analysis was shit house as it was 2023 Warriors vs the 2022 version of the other teams. yes the other teams will improve also which will make 9th a fair dinkum effort.
Bulldogs were supposed to be better this year but aren't really. I am waiting to see who their coach is before weighing in on their fortunes.
Papali'i baulking at going to Tigers now.

Continuing my one man evaluation of our 2023 fortunes.
We need to learn lessons learned from this year
We can't afford to lose a game and concede 70 or 60 points to somebody. That Storm loss destroyed our soul and it took us maybe a month to recover. Thank the Lord Above that 5 to 6 of our men continued to tackle hard toward the end or we might have conceded 80 points which I understand would be an NRL record.
We need to GIVE UP trying to win and out point score with razzle dazzle the Storm in the Anzac match and use flair to beat them like Warriors teams of yore. Go into that match in particular with a very specific side picked that can tackle and don't worry about scoring tries. Just protect the momentum of the season by losing 24-6 instead of like all the recent years 52-10 and this year 70-12. We are not the old Harlem Globetrotter warriors anymore. We no longer can beat the storm by throwing it around.
Play a smart season. And ensure we have momentum throughout the season which means conceding defeat against the storm and playing 5 sets then kick 100 percent completion rate for the match. If we want to make the 8 sacrifices must be made and that may mean swallowing some pride against the likes of Storm and just going into the match to limit the damage especially when playing away to the storm.

In fairness to Walsh and Shaun Johnson, the backline badly lacks strike power, neither centre would start for any other club and Montoya is an honest toiler. Kosi has a bit of potential and Vailea a lot of potential but both are going to need a lot of work and our youth development has been abysmal since Cleary left.

Walsh will be a different player when he has the likes of Staggs and Cobbo around him.
In saying that the Storm has Hughes and Paps and they make eveyone around them look like superstars, even wingers starting their debut.

My one man 2023 prognosis continues

Lessons need to be learned from SK and Brown. Why were they hired when they had screwed the pooch at another club before. Leopards don't change their spots. Too much value placed on getting an experienced coach.
Some of Brown's decisions were egregious and the more Stacey moves to do the opposite of those decisions the more likely we look like actually winning.
I don't think either SK or Brown watched the games. Or if they did they didn't seem to be notice who had played well or who had a stinker.
Katoa played some ghastly games this year and in the press conference Brown said he had played very well and that it had been his best game ever. And if Brown thought he had played well this meant no corrective coaching or development for errors was given to Katoa after each match. So no wonder he didn't improve because Brown thought he was playing well and nothing needed to be said to him.
A complete inability to observe what was happening in the game being played in front of him and out to lunch conclusions on what player had played well and who had not.

I like the Webster appointment as he has paid his dues as an apprentice but has no head coach history so there is no evidence against him succeeding.
Let that be a blue print going forward.

Few late observations from the ground, thought the guys had some good energy but are just carrying the scars of the last year, the trust they can go on with it seems to be gone and they are just waiting for normal transmission to resume. The body language when the Eels scored a bit of a tinny try when it looked like the ball was going over the sideline you could see the game was lost right there. I did like that they got a second wind (albeit too late) rather than just rolling over.
Anyone know what happened to Chanel Harris-Tavita? Looked like a nut shot? Saw Reese tried to pull him up and you could hear the pained ‘fuck off’ a mile away

Many of us just called for effort in this game. We got it for one half, then the 2nd half was just such a let down.

I am a big Tohu Harris fan, but what I saw from him really concerned me. He puts in more effort than most and did in this game too, but there were signs of him dropping off, and if he's doing it the future is grim.

Firstly, he failed to cover a couple of times when he normally would.

2nd, he was giggling in the post match interview, most likely at other players trying to make him laugh from behind the camera. That he wasn't able to resist this and thought this was ok is really sad. I certainly wasn't giggling at the end of the match, and I am sure you weren't either. This is just another indication that we care more than the players, and coming from Tohu Harris, who normally keeps the 4th wall intact, it's even harder to take.

Looking around NZ at the moment, there are so many companies claiming covid as an excuse for incompetence. Although these claims are largely horseshit, the scary thing is the Warriors have as good of a claim to this as anyone. What worries me is that rather than manning up and getting on with it, we are looking to cash in on the covid excuse. Sure you expect it from Cameron George, but when it has reached Tohu Harris, I think we are in big trouble.

Other players aren't allowed to be in the presser.
Stacey said something & he laughed at it
A moment in time & suddenly it becomes a whole other thing...
We're all looking for answers and somebody, anybody, to blame but no need to make up shite!
