Leeds Rhinos will make history next season by becoming the first team to wear a gold sleeve badge on their shirt to denote the fact that they are the current engage Super League champions.
In a new move which starts in 2009, the winner of each subsequent engage Super League Grand Final will sport a gold champions scroll around the engage Super League sleeve badge on their home and away shirts the subsequent season.
The Rhinos beat St Helens 24-16 in the engage Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford last season to be crowned Champions for the second successive season, earning them the rite to be the first team to wear the champions badge in 2009.
Paul Kimberley, RFL Commercial Director, said: “The engage Super League champions sleeve patch which will be worn by the Rhinos next season is a new initiative, and we feel it provides recognition for the club, its playing staff and supporters.”
Tina Clare, engage Mutual Assurance Head of Brand, said: “We are confident that the new sleeve patch will be a great hit with supporters.
“We believe it will make a great badge of honour for the reigning champions on the field as well as for the fans who will be able to wear their champions badge with pride throughout the engage Super League season.”
Leeds Rhinos will kick off engage Super League XIV live on Sky Sports when they face Welsh newcomers Celtic Crusaders on Friday 6 February at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium.
