I don't really see it as Benji's job to talk us up.

I've seen him talk other clubs up. That wasn't his own. If he successfully managed to help Locke rangle his way out of his contract. You'd have no ill feelings about the managers plan using Benji to help sign him up to someone else? Because as a Warriors fan, i'd be mad as hell. If we had've lost Locke down to Benji's influence.

I struggle to see how Benji could have that sort of influence really. Also, it's Benji's perogative to talk up any club he likes...wont change my opnion of our club no matter what he says. And if Locke was to leave we still have the Fish and Omar so i reckon our stocks at the back are pretty good.

Benji wasn't trying to sign Johnson to another club, but to another agent. Benji can't be expected to know Johnson's contractual agreements with his agent. That the other agent then tried to shop him around to other clubs for 2013 while Johnson was already contracted to the Warriors falls on the agent (and, to a lesser degree, Johnson) - but Benji can't be blamed for that.

But it states in the article that Benji did get him to sign the contract but someone stepped in. Obviously legal issues got involved and voided it. But the influence was obviously there because there was another contract signed.

Locke, not Johnson.

Are you saying Benji would've had no idea after to speaking to Locke about signing another contract, about Locke's 2 year deal extension with the Warriors. Surely you don't believe that, i've never taken you as niave, JB.

You agree that we're talking about a player agent contract, and not a playing/club contract, correct?

At the risk of spamming the thread, we're not talking about a club contract, correct? The article says it was a contract to work with Tauber. I think you're on a different page...?

With the intention of shopping him around elsewhere while currently contracted. Yes.

With the intention of shopping him around elsewhere while currently contracted. Yes.

How would you back up the two assertions you made (emphasis added), particularly as they apply to Benji Marshall?

Benji was the link between said parties.

"Tauber’s main client Benji Marshall got in Locke’s ear on the Four Nations tour of England last year and
then signed him to a contract when he returned home."

The new contract owners intention to sell him to the Roosters for 2013. As stated below.

"To the Warriors’ amazement, Tauber started shopping Locke around for 2013 and got a major bite from the Roosters."

Surely you didn't miss the press release last season. Locke signed a two year extension. What did you think i was upset about?

Kevin Locke onboard with Warriors till 2013

Zero Tackle
– June 19, 2011

The New Zealand Warriors announced today that rising star Kevin Locke has signed a contract at the club until the end of the 2013 season.
After turning on a number of star performances at fullback, the Warriors worked with his agent to contract Locke for an additional year.
Warriors CEO Wayne Scurrah argues that it was never in doubt that Locke would be in Auckland beyond 2011 despite rumours the Rabbitohs had been eager to snare him.
But Locke admits, after taking his footy career for granted, he realised this year there was every chance the club he loves might cut him loose.

As a fan of Locke i don't want him to leave, i don't think we have options as strong as him yet. Even if a few have potential. Something shady obviously occured, other wise it wouldn't have been noted in the paper. Benji was the link. What have i stated that is otherwise?

How many other players does tauber have on his books? They couldn't be the "link man"??

An agents job is to get the most for their clients. I fail to see where benji fits into all this.

You have to remember Mateo is 28 this year, he may well only have 2 or 3 more decent years left in him. He's playing brilliant football at the moment so I'd like to lock him up till he's at least 30. See how his body feels after that.

Shabeejus I'm a bit late with that one.

With the Benji/Locke thing.. I think that it's more of a case of Benji trying to convince Locke to up his dollar value? The Warriors are highly underpaid. It was mentioned last year that the Warriors were $1million below the salary cap, that's massive when you consider that usually around half the clubs in the competition are annually fined for (minor) breaching the salary cap. I'd also assume that the highest paid warriors are the imports eg. Mateo, Friend, Lillyman etc. It's never been easy to convince Aussie stock to move across the ditch and we've always had to pay overs.

I can only assume that Benji and Locke got comparing pay packets and maybe Benji said something along the lines of 'You're worth more than that bro, here, call my manager. He's made me a millionaire, he'll look after you.'

Because no other players are being named in the paper as doing so.

Sorry seb, but you'll have to be more specific. How do you back up the assertion that Benji Marshall willingly and knowingly encouraged Kevin Locke to sign for a club other than the Warriors while he (Locke) was still contracted to our club?

That's an assertion that I can't see any backing for.

The only facts (if the story is corroborated, of course) are:
A) Benji convinced Locke to get a different player manager.
B) Locke signed a contract with a new player manager.
C) The manager deceitfully tried to offer Locke to other clubs, most notably the Roosters, while Locke was contracted to the Warriors.

How do you assign the blame for C to Benji Marshall, when he wasn't even involved in shopping Locke around to other clubs? Sure, we can all assert our way to fill in the gaps by suggesting that Benji told Tauber to shop Locke around, or that Benji convinced Locke to sign with Tauber while knowing in advance that Tauber would try to make Locke break his contract with the Warriors, but where's the backing for that assertion?

I don't mind this story, as long as we don't see a similar story stating that Money Bill Williams has convinced Kevin Locke to sign with Khodder Nasser.

You've mistaken what i've stated, let me show the following quotes, then speak..

You Said: You agree that we're talking about a player agent contract, and not a playing/club contract, correct?[/QUOTE]

I Said: With the intention of shopping him around elsewhere while currently contracted. Yes.

You Said: How would you back up the two assertions you made (emphasis added), particularly as they apply to Benji Marshall?

So i should've pulled you up there, as by stating, yes. I'm obviously agreeing with you that we were talking about a player agent contract.

The changing of clubs was the managers doing, whether Benji knew or not, is another story.

I then go on to state that Benji was the link between the said parties. So how do you come to the conclusion that i asserted Benji was actually the one shopping him around?
