Can anyone explain too me the weird fascination many have with TMM being preferred over Metcalf? Cause for me Metcalf has a far better upside than TMM. And last year TMM was really really average

Before he fractured his leg he was humming with SJ

The tries he set up on the left made Pompey look better than he really was (IMO 😂)

Never got that mojo back when he returned

I also watched him play the year before for the broncos and he stood out positively

Can you explain the fascination with Metcalf?

All I hear is speed

If he’s so dam fast he should play on the wing

In 2023 season:
Metcalf appeared 12 times with a win percent of 83% and 6 tries, 3 try assists
Martin appeared 9 times with a win percent of 44%, 0 tries, 2 try assists

Metcalf has featured in 20 first grade games in total
Martin has appeared 78 first grade games in total

I personally think Metcalf has a higher ceiling than Martin, I prefer his natural talents and think his skills can develop to equal Martins. Metcalf is also younger so is a longer term prospect.

edit: fixed stats, fat fingered some numbers!

Hopefully all his doubters take notice.
Still has a way to go though.
Vastly better than our other current options

Think that’s what has people nervous, still has a way to go and we’re in our best chance to win a title losing our premier front rower that looks to be the best in the game again this year. He’s trained the whole preseason on that edge so won’t be shifted lightly

Unfortunately we don't have too many other options.
No decent 6s available. We have to develop our own.
Plenty of other clubs in the same position.

RTS had 173m (4th) including post contact 67m (2nd), earned a penalty, made 2-3 offloads, made his tackles some dominating, and was given the ball with no shape and 3 defenders marking him in the second half, so not sure why he is picked on lol, musical chair?
Not dissing on RTS but as a fullback he met the line at more pace and his step will be more effective. At centre he won’t have that early ball and will have more traffic. It’s on Metcalf to set him up, give him space and make him look good rather than being able to do it all himself.

It will take time and combinations. If Metcalfs now locked in, it’s a good opportunity for continuity and to build.

Those stats are all effort plays which is his strengths but we need to be smarter as well, using a system as much as individual brilliance.

RTS has his part to play in this also.
Too many times he was sitting on Metcalf shoulder when he should have been deeper and wider.
They are both learning from each other

I think everyone likes Te-Maire because he’s handsome.
IMO he is over rated, still handy to have, but Metcalf’s easily the better half, he didn’t have the best game last night, no one did.
Metcalf also has a good kicking game, which he showed in both trial games, just needs to put his hand up more
