Actually, they have been seen 2005-2007 as well.

Youth unemployment rate I think is at 9+%

So, is this person saying it doesn't require any focus despite both youth and young rates being well above the total rate?

Or is he not happy with the policies that are being used?

Or does he want us to look at going back to the policies that were in play leading up to 1987?

I think he's saying, be weary of snake oil salesman.

I hear you. And yes, agree on a lot he's saying too.
If boards stuck to what they are meant to do and CEO/ senior management were competent it would almost be a perfect business world lol.
A Board's diversity is a really good thing but crossover from a governance role to an organisational one buggers it up.
Unfortunately, a lot of Boards aren't trained in governance, they're just appointments - a lot of "professional board members" make a good penny the more they're on...great gig after retirement if you can get it...
Quite a few ex MP's get board positions on private and public entities.
I had some dealings with a long term MP who had just retired. Got appointed by his old colleagues to a Health Board picking up around $50k a year for 12 meetings, not much else to do. He was so pleased with the extra, even though he had a gold plated pension.
Totally wrong but it happens all the time at the cost of talented people.

Talented, and more to the point, knowledgeable and/or experienced in the field the board oversees. This would be my argument for a diverse board. But I'm not sure diversity in that respect is what Wayne Brown is dissing.
I can't think of a worse board make-up than a disproportionate number of good ol' boys, ex-politicians, and civic matrons in Health for instance. Never mind, infrastructure, education, town planning, environment etc etc etc.
Problem is, the people who should be on them more often than not aren't because they're too busy on the ground doing the mahi.

Is Brown talking about diversity appointments on gender/cultural grounds?

Yep.

Old and easily recognised tactic for an ex party leader to run cover for the current party after they screwed us up big time.

Treasury and international agencies have painted our outlook for 2024 as bleak most of last year… Labour were proposing public spending cuts themselves. Our govt deficit has been pushed out by 3 extra years the past 3 years. Our balance of payments is at record deficits. We’ve had recession last year with more forecast for this years. Inflations stubbornly not reducing fast enough. $200b unfunded Labour infrastructure promises…

Nothing to see here according to Helen 🤯

And the funniest thing, Jacinda canned Nationals roads of significance as soon as she took office… because they were unaffordable, doing exactly what Helen accuses National of 🤣

Lucky we have a govt prepared to be honest and make the tough calls. Labour got voted out because they didn’t.

Interestingly on 25 Jan 2024, Treasury figures affirmed that the National Coalition government "inherited finances in better shape than expected."
  • The budget deficit for the five months ended November was $2.8 billion, about $1.1b lower than forecast in the half-year financial update (HYEFU).
  • Tax revenue was $49.1b, more than half a billion dollars above forecast because of higher provisional and income tax, and tobacco, alcohol, and fuel duties.
  • The September quarter labour market statistics showed lower employment levels but that average hourly earnings increased
  • Crown revenue was further lifted by an increase in interest earnings by the Reserve Bank.
  • Expenses were $300 million below forecast at $56.8b, reflecting marginally lower spending on community housing and welfare payments, which Treasury said was largely a matter of timing.
  • Net debt was $83.9b, $1.8b below forecast, and equating to 20.9 percent of the value of the economy, reflecting gains on investments held by the NZ Superannuation Fund and ACC.
But it was noted: The figures do not reflect the effect of any decisions by the new government, which had just just been formed at the end of November.

Also interestingly:

In September 2023, Treasury forecast NZ was expected to grow at 2.6% on average for the next four years, continuing a solid growth trajectory. Meanwhile UK is -0.3%, Australia is fairly flat, Japan is in recession, Canada is 1.5%. and France at 1 to 1.4%.

Repeating the Act party and National's attack lines. Another well trodden tactic.

The right are very organised and well resourced to steal democracy and our assets from us. You must be proud Wiz.

This government is completely dishonest. The only tough calls they're making is who gets what for their backers.

Yep.

You just tied yourself in knots there mate.
And what? No laughing emoji Inruin? 😏 thought your keypad was stuck 😜

Labour need to do something!
Reinvent themselves as a party for the middle working New Zealander - LABOUR party.

They have lost their purpose with to much irrelevant policy.

Are they the party of trademen, small business owners, shops, cafes, blue collar workers? Nope. Not anymore.

Meanwhile National take harshly punitive action dole bashing, that perennial favourite of the tories, as a distraction from their asset sale plans elsewhere, at the same time as enabling and manufacturing a recession throwing tens of thousands onto the unemployment queues and enabling huge cuts stifling job growth.

Nice work, what a bunch of scumbags.
