Pick Your Team Rnd 16 - Warriors vs Raiders

NRL Round 2 Preview Canberra Raiders v NZ Warriors 610x400

After the Round 15 game against the Gold Coast Titans do you want to see any changes for the away game against the Canberra Raiders at Mt Smart Stadium?

Promotions? Demotions? Any new injury concerns? Any returning players?

Will Sam Tomkins be ok for this game? Tuimoala Lolohea back to the bench? Will the bench get a shake up? Will Charlie Gubb or Raymond Faitala-Mariner get another run or will Albert Vete and Sam Rapira be back? Jonathan Wright deserve a go or has Ken Maumalo done enough?

Discuss...

Basically the same team but Tuimoala Lolohea in for Siliva Havili. Siliva doesnt add a thing IMO. Needs to pull 80 minute games in Reserve Grade so he can be fit enough to play 30 minutes in NRL...

Off The Bench

I'm a big fan of Sam Rapira but if these young guys
keep stepping up an doing there jobs an making improvement
I see it as a long term good thing for our club, If it means a few losses here an there , I'll just blame the coach .But we all know it's game on next season,,,,,
In saying that I thought Gubb played good, Would be a good bench player reminds me of nigel Plum, But with him on the bench With Vete would give the coach a Choice between a defensive player an an attacking player , So he' could somewhat
controll the tempo of the game,

Why leave out Lisone and Vete 2 weeks in a row ?

good team. My only concern is how would Lolohea be used off the bench? I'm not convinced he can handle the defence required at hooker and our backs can be covered by other players if injury occurs.

Even I have my concerns but its a case of anyone other than Siliva Havili IMO. A 10 minute stint just isnt good enough. Have trust in Nathan Friend to play 80 minutes and maybe carry Dominique Peyroux for cover...

Nathan Friend playing 80, will this impact his newly found running game? He's run over 100m each of the last two games.....we need to see that continue....That's my only concern really.

Is Maumolo going to be fit? If not our options are probably to go with Lolohea on the wing and that may give Havilli a reprieve, or bring in Fusitua/Wright and keep Lolohea on the bench for Havilli.

Needs to lower his tackling rate and share the load. Even if you get him off 10 minutes before half time so he has the half time minutes as a break too would work with either Tuimoala Lolohea or Dominique Peyroux filling in. The benefit is both players can cover the backline and with Dom he can cover 2nd row if Hoffman gets knocked out.

IMO with Siliva Havili there we leave our whole team open if we suffer an injury anywhere. Even if Nathan Friend gets injured he's not the player to play 70 minutes. He'll spend most the game walking back into line and effectively leave the team short a man...

Yeah you could look at something like that, even that additional 10 minute break I think would make a big difference. Surely Lolohea would be better suited than DP filling in at hooker though.............

Chad may seem harsh but stuff him if hes going lets develop Lolohea and if it turns to shit Chad can come on, plus I think chad could be a decent hooker.
Want a bit of size on the bench

I seriously wish we had someone else for Chad, seriously. That guy is hopeless as a first grader. He sees holes only for himself. He has so much strike power outside of him, he just has no idea on how to use it.

Lol at the Chad hate. There's a time for it, but after that game is not it, he was a constant threat. My only gripe is a couple of times he made the wrong choice either going short or out the back, but that happens to every half at times.

Ikahihifo, Maumalo (injury assumption), Havilli out - Lolohea, Vete, Fish/Fusitua in.

If Maumalo is injured to keep that strike power going I would have Fisiahi preferably or Fusitua on the wing.

In selecting teams you have two ways to select, which is really dependant on what depth you have. One is selecting specialists (Hooker) to fill roles. This of course is dependant on players being able to fulfil the role.

The second is to select your best players in the playing group and adjust your tactics and roles to suit. This can work as long as it is only one or two positions. You must have your specialists.

That is why I would have Tui at 14. Havili does not bring enough to the table. He has shown that consistently in his appearances. Friend needs a break during the game to keep his effectiveness for the team. That 20 or so minutes can be filled in game by either Tui/Chad, Chad/Kata, Kata/Tui, even Konrad can slip in there for a play or two.

That time without Friend could be a danger time for oppositions rather than at best maitenance of performance. It is difficult for one player to do the role so a shared role makes sense.
