Brown made the point in his presser that coming from a union background Berry and Katoa have literally played 30 games of rugby league in their life. Keeping in mind the now 3 years disruption for this club, I tend to agree that in general its unlikely other clubs would be fielding players in first grade on the basis of having such little game time at any level. For Pene I think he'd probably make the bench of some teams. He performed ok last year in 9 games in an otherwise stacked Storm side which limited his opportunities.

Brown also talked about the young guys needing to learn to do things right, consequences and results mattering.

He mentioned we have a very young team, which is fair enough but other teams youngsters don’t seem to make the amount of mistakes our team does.

I think our whole team has needed a lot more in-house practice games to get the basic errors out of the play that we are seeing.

You're forgetting that one of our best traits over the years has been our ability to play shit teams back into form.

I had hoped Otukolo would come into consideration but he had just 1 dummy half run for 4m in an 18 minute Q Cup (debut) stint. Where has his running game & tryscoring gone that he was renown for coming through the grades? I understand he needs to nail the basics but use your talents!!

On the eve on announcing the lineup to play the Tigers here’s a few thoughts after digesting the weekends loss,

We have lost to two teams we could of beat but didn’t, both games against teams jostling for the 7-11th spots on the ladder you would think. Not ideal but not all doom and gloom.

Losing a middle forward 3 minutes into the game in horrendous heat didn’t help our cause and might have been overlooked in contributing to our defeat. Bunty is doing some good stuff in attack with offloads etc, but please try changing angle prior to hitting the line. Now is the time to do it with his straight off the back fence style ingrained in opposition defences.

We need a more involved Ash Taylor this week - he was quiet for a guy with his experience in an inexperienced backline.
The 5th tackle options were poor on too many occasions and he should have been the guy on most of those with the ball in his hands.

We can’t expect Reece Walsh to be the saviour, the kid hasn’t even turned 19 yet.

Using Sironen the last 2 weeks purely for defensive work in the last 15-20 minutes confuses me especially as we were a forward down so early in the game.
If our bench can’t offer up something on both attack and defence then surely this is not the correct selection?

I think we do need at least one big body on one of our wings to offer something extra on attack, the good teams all have one. Pompey is an enigma to me however.

Hopefully Arthurs will see more ball this week, he looked promising each time he carried the pill.

1 - 2 changes only this week. Broncos and Cowboys to follow before we meet The Roosters and The Storm. Hopefully these games coincide with the return of Johnson.

If I remember correctly that was an absolutely wacky game where we only just came away with the win. I'm sure we would all prefer not to see that again, but if it means we get the 2 points then so be it!

Losing Lodge after *20 minutes threw a spanner in works but we dealt with it poorly. Pene played 12 minutes before halftime & just 11 after. Surely he's got a bigger motor than that considering he averaged a tick over 33 minutes when at the Storm

Wests Tigers playmaker Jackson Hastings is facing two weeks on the sidelines after he was charged with a Grade 2 Dangerous Throw in his side's loss to Newcastle on the weekend.

As it is his first offence for the season, Hastings will miss two matches with an early guilty plea or three matches if he is found guilty at the judiciary panel.

Couldn’t agree more, we actually need to find a way to get more minutes out of Pene, he‘s been quality in both games so far.

Played only 23 minutes on a hot day and a prop short, could‘ve used him in the middle for longer minutes by shifting Curren (who played 73 minutes anyway) to Katoa’s edge instead of subbing Sirro on.

112 metres from 9 runs, Pene out there for another 10 minutes was offering more in the middle than Sirro on an edge imo.
