If Shaun Johnson doesn't play then we roll out our 8th different halves combo for the year & 5th in just Stacey's 11th match!

This might his reasoning after the fact to justify sacking Barrett. But watching Gould a few weeks ago he said he knows it is time to sack a coach when they keep changing their halves and can't decide on a halfback or halves pairing.

Our reasoning for changes over the last few years has partly been form but also a lot of injuries. Still it is a pretty damning stat in terms of our stability.

At the start of they year the main concerns were who would partner Johnson and how many games he'd play. We have gone quite well on the number of games we have gotten out of Johnson. His form, consistent partner and form around him have been an issue.

Harris-Tevita to full back. Walsh and Asi in the halves. Why not? Walsh may not be any more successful in the halves but it will be entertaining. And he will have a second rower minding him on defence.
Pretty much the rest of the backs as usual. Why mess with the centres and wings? Vailea and Kosi getting another run with Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Montoya beside them can only be a good thing. I don't mind Montoya at centre.
Harris, Curran, Ale, and Egan in the forwards.
Shuffle the rest to suit. Maybe get the Tarot cards out to try and work out which of the rest are going to have an on day

I can't see it happening either. Although we will have a new halves combination regardless. Being a coach seems to be a bit like being a politician.
You have to pretend that you believe what you're saying and doing and that it is the best way forward no matter what unfortunate bits of reality crop up to make things awkward.

I think that we all understood that Johnson wasn't the answer when he was resigned. And that Walsh wasn't a first grade full back after 3 or 4 games last season. And I'm guessing that Stacey and his predecessors and the Warriors brains trust aren't stupid. Or I hope not. So surely they must see the glaring weaknesses. And honestly discuss the players in private

But they keep trotting out variations of the same lines and the same team.
Because it's safer for your career to go down with the safety first option of not being too imaginative and only making injury changes than to risk looking silly and making risky changes that could backfire.
