Pick Your Team Pick Your Team 2022 Rnd 18 - Eels vs Warriors

PNG Kiwi

We've been fucked by him too - missing tackles on the goal line at times 😂
Well put, his brilliance is spasmodic but his poor defense is more obvious than his upside most of the time.
He needs a firm Hand and guidance.

Definitely understand where people are coming from naming Chanel at FB after how he played last night but fact is that he is leaving at the end of the season so I’m not willing to hurt the likelihood of keeping Walsh and/or slow the development for Volkman for that.

I have been bitching a lot about Aitken not playing in the centres but now that is is this late into season and with him leaving next year, I would give Pompey one more shot to pull him shit together (in what will be his 50th game) and if Adam doesn’t play well, then Vailea will be back and healthy the week after so we can get to developing him instead.

The new (more skilled) Michael Luck, he needs to be signed long term with possibilities of next captain as a carrot.
Always good to see a "Who?! What'd they sign him for?!" player becoming a cult hero.

I'm not sure if it ever cancels out the "Him!? Oh, great we got him!" player turning into/still being a bit of a lazybutt/major disappointment feeling, but still good...

Agree about the Captaincy. I think he'd do it really well and it's not like adding the captaincy just adds to the tons of things he already has to think about during a game (which is why - most likely unfairly - I'd rather not have one of the spine as Captain.

As to the team, I've long advocated "Bouncing" players in their first season between NRL and whatever NSWRL/QRL team we're part of, to rest the body from time-to-time, to go back and polish a part of their game etc. So however Volkman goes next week, I'd look to rest him for a couple of weeks, but given our situation, is it a case "Either you play NRL or you don't play at all."? If it is, how's he supposed to develop?

Harris-Tavita leaving at the end of the season complicates things a bit for me - it makes me less inclined to pick him in the Starting XIII unless a player who's going to be here in 2023 breaks something and he can do a more than acceptable job filling in (as he did yesterday, yes, against a piss-poor Tigers outfit, but still....).. So if I'm picking the team and there's no players out who's place he can fill, he's either 14 or not in the team.

Walsh is not our answer for a FG FB
Is his defence up to par? Nope
Does he make unforced errors on offence? Yes
But he is still just 19 so I can understand the poor defensive effort/reads to some extent, and a lot of the errors on offence have been from him trying to get something going for us when the team have been getting pumped so I can’t fault him for that.

I reckon Walsh is a five eighth long term so while I think to say that he isn’t a First Grade Fullback is a bit harsh, Im not going to go to put my shining armour on to defend him beyond what I have already said. But benching him for a guy that is giving up the game, or anyone else currently on the team, has little to no long term benefit for anyone.

Yeah the spine is a real selection dilemma for the next match and your take is a good one.

Volkmam has given no trajectory indication in his first two games.
He has been neither a liability or an asset.
With the exception of one turnover on Sunday he makes no errors, no dropped pill either.
He has made 49 tackles and missed only 4.

On the other hand he hasn't done anything offensively

Most players are either an asset or a net negative. Not Ronald. He has been net neutral.

Spine A (Chanel Harris-Tavita, Volkman, Johnson, Egan)
Spine B (Walsh, Volkman, Johnson, Egan)
SPINE C ( Chanel Harris-Tavita, Walsh, Johnson, Egan)

Spine A is good for 14 to 20 points per game
Spine B 18 to 24 points per game
Spine C 20 to 28 points per game

To make this decision easier it would help if Volkman improved a tad against the Eels.

This didnt age well..
I change my mind, Chanel Harris-Tavita to 1, Lussick to 14, Walsh to his couch 😂
