Pick Your Team Pick Your Team 2022 Rnd 1 - Warriors vs Dragons

There have been two camps since the end of rd 25 last year.

The ‘Kodi is shit and should never play half at the Warriors again’ camp, and the ‘Kodi will go great with as long as he is not the dominant playmaker’ camp.

I’ve always been in the latter, and to be honest I’m fecking psyched to see the outcome of this debate - so long as it’s not a 3 year contract extension for Kodi 😂
One thing I think we ALL agree on, is that this is Kodi’s last year as a Warrior.

So, sit back, grab a big tub of pop corn and a greasy half-live chicken leg, because bragging rights (or should we say bragging wrights, aye Wrighty 😜) are at stake here!
It's a tough club when you hate a player that is picked. You just want them out and not to play well but obviously thay affects the team. I am i kick Kodi to the curb camp because whatever he brings early on you can bet your bottom dollar he will burn you later and just go missing. He has done it his whole career, why would he change now

So what has changed between now and then.
I will tell you. It is not the reasons you listed about him training the house down or actually improving since his useless performances throughout last season.
What has changed is that Shaun Johnson will be playing 7.
And you and Nathan Brown and Stacey Jones and Craig Hodges and every fan on this site, except for me as my opinion hasn't changed, has fooled themselves into believing that being with Shaun will bring back the Kodi from the England tour of 2019 where the two of them carved up together.
That is the logic, Be it conscious logic or unconscious logic.
And all of you, mark my words, will by game 6 or 7 at latest will concede that Kodi hasn't improved. But all of you being eternal optimists will also conclude it was worth a try and nothing ventured nothing gained.
He will cost us the season if he plays and isn't dropped is my view which I have posted a number of times. There is only one place that Kodi belongs and that isn't in the Warriors team it is on a way rocket to the sun (as I have also said before).
Hope that helps clarify your thinking for you !
This post is 80% in jest and meant in good humour.
That’s not my logic at all.
My logic is that the coaching staff have watched him (and all the other options) training all off season- doing opposed sessions and all that and we haven’t so I’m going with their expertise over my guesswork. :)

I think his ability in the kicking department has always been in question, which has probably held him back. Ball in hand and on the defensive side, no issues there for me.

I'm struggling to see how Kodi has turned it around in one off-season. There was nothing in the the All Stars game and first trial that made me think he won't become a passenger like he did in majority of last seasons games.

I still prefer Chanel Harris-Tavita in the halves once Walsh returns. Kodi is just isnt the answer for me, respectfully.

Having Walsh and now also Shaun Johnson will be able to hide Chanel Harris-Tavita's kicking deficiencies.

Ash Taylor is the wildcard, but i think people are overlooking this guys chronic health/injury issues with his hip etc. I think it might be half a season before we see him back to his best anyway.
And the fact that he's only signed for one season - the goss being he's Dolphins-bound as soon as he can be - says to me that he should be back-up only. Why should we tune up a player for another club?

But, then again, if Johnson has injury issues like in 2021, he might well get a fair bit of game time...

I think the Kodi Chanel Harris-Tavita debate is a great side story to the Warriors campaign this year. What is interesting was that there was a poll on who everyone would prefer to join Johnson in the halves and Ash was easily the preferred choice, if I recall correctly. 2nd was Kodi but not by such a big margin. I was in the give Kodi a final chance camp however the more I see and hear of Chanel Harris-Tavita and him being one of the fittest players in the side etc., leaves me sitting pretty neutral on them. I want the best player to win!! Ash Taylor is definitely 3rd rank off the cab for me knowing that the season hasn't started and things could change pretty quickly!

I voted Taylor but watching that trial he still doesn't look right to me.

I just don't buy that they are all in on Kodi at all. When Walsh is back we will see how they really feel I reckon
Yeah i agree. The fact that Kodi most likely has the halves jersey for round 1 doesn't mean much to me. Fullback is arguably the most important position on the field and if Chanel Harris-Tavita is picked there, thats a pretty massive endorsement in his ability.

Round 2 team list will tell all.

I wonder if Kodi being first picked has anything to do with Metcalf coming next year? or are they still hopeful of him coming this year...
What I mean is they look to have similar play styles so it could be building continuity, combos and a style of footy in the team for when Metcalf eventually joins in 2023 for the big push.

Just a thought..

Ash Taylor has shown in the past that he has the goods. Give him time (and thats not long) and he will preform.

Is the Walsh-Chanel Harris-Tavita combo a real thing that could swing it?

They do link well together, in a way that Chanel Harris-Tavita and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck never did. Even Johnson throughout his long tenure was never really setting his fullbacks away (might say more about his fullbacks) he was more setting up his edge.

Chanel Harris-Tavita without Walsh has been a bit tits on a bull.

Last year in the games they played together we went 3W-5L and together they scored 8 tries in those games, with one of them on their own (after Walsh joined) it was 2W-7L and 3 tries between them.

Its definitely more than just Chanel vs Kodi.

Its now (Chanel + Reece Walsh) vs. (Kodi + Shaun Johnson)

Fit is important. Those combinations should play a part in whichever way they decide to go.

Important to note that Kodi and Walsh have a strong relationship off the field as well, but I've haven't really seen them link on the field in the same way that Chanel Harris-Tavita and Walsh do

He won't be fullback.

So what if he played there for the kiwis? Siliva Havili played hooker for the kiwis, doesn't mean he became the Warriors starting hooker based on that.

Dallin is severely overrated by kiwi fans.

But, but, but but but Kodi played really well against England 5 years ago with Shaun Johnson….. a kiwi rep FFS?!! put some respect on that name!!!!!

Can’t remember which one of you munters kept bringing up that point when I argued he wasn’t good enough to crack the broncos, who were also crap that year, and he will be crap when he joins us…..

I was proven to be correct 3 years later.

Rant over.

You are saying he been consistently bad, that is incorrect, he has the ability, it is the consistency that is missing. How much of that is down to him is the question.

As for bad form transferring from other clubs, look what the Dogs' fans think of Montoya and how he has gone with us.

Bit harsh on Kodi, was arguably the Kiwis best player in the last series they played

I said he was crap meaning not worthy of the high regard some of you had for him.

Clearly he can play ala his performance in the kiwi jersey. But isn’t that the problem?

Needed Tony Iro to give him $$$ to run the ball ?? Don’t know if that is true, but pretty much sums up his character. Speed bump.

Hopefully re-teaming up with Shaun Johnson will change his game? I hope so.

As for Montoya, I followed the doggies in 2020 and 2021. The Montoya we got is not the same Montoya at the doggies. He was disengaged over there. A change of scenery has done him a world of good.
