Anybody see how Paasi went in ISP.
Paasi when fit is an absolute metre eater. Paasi and Gavet in 8 and 10 spots.
What number was he? The forwards that stood out for me were #16 who was a big dude with a pony tail, didnt get a lot of time but was busy when he was on and was good carting the ball up, number 12 was also good just as a general get everywhere and do everything right second rower.
Bears were real solid in defence in the middle was like running into a brick wall.

I would give Cook another shot, hard to come in late in the game and fit in, bad misread but give him another shot, bring him on early in second half against titans once we are 40 points ahead

so we actually need cook then, if he goes of for the hia who covers him?

And if Luke doesn't go off for the HIA we effectively only play with 16 men. If the back up hooker is going to play meaningful minutes by all means select him, if he's only there as an insurance policy it's a waste of a bench spot.

Papalii had such a good game I'd be tempted to leave him in the second row and bring Mannering back to the middle to tighten up in that area defensively, we looked vulnerable there in stages when the Burgi were rolling through the ruck and their hooker was running off the back of it.

We could of used Mannering's wrestle ability to slow things down and help reset our defensive line.

What is it with Bunty and Perth, he plays his best footy there.

I'd be leaning towards leaving Ligi out in place of Mannering if he's ready to come back so it's down to whether Vete or Paasi come on to the bench but I don't know if you change things after the impact Bunty, Pulu and Lisone brought to the game.

Mannering and Passi in if fit.

Lisone and Cook out. Issac can play 80mins

But if those boys arent ready to go, keep the same team for sure !!

when was the last time Luke regularly played 80?
So if we do as you suggest and he does cop an injury... what do we do?
Remember it could be in the first 5 minutes... so who will cover hooker for 75mins in that scenario?

I just don't think you can risk not having a plan.

Current squad will beat the Titans at home.

I don’t see the need to bring any players in. Let the injured recover and ease them in eg. Paasi

While I think Cook looked a bit out of his depth, giving him another game and maybe some more game time (v the Titans is a good opportunity) should help build the blokes confidence.

Oh no please don't make us favourites for a game or does the new warriors time space consortium mean we will win games we are suppost to?

Between the two excellent posters arguing over whether to carry a back up hooker in this thread.....my two cents:

Play Lawton off the bench.

He's utility cover for most of the spine and center + loose forward at a pinch....that is like lance.

Kearney favours playing two dummy halfs for an overlapping period ( Loolooeye at 13 off the bench till he pulls Luke for NZ).

Kearney is obsessed with ball playing forwards to the point where he will have two hookers and two halves plus a ball playing backrowet ( Kearneys own role as a player....the mantle he handed to Frank Pritchard, and now has his son Tohu Harris performing).

That is a Kiwi league legacy which Kearney still fosters....the mobile ball playing NZ forward....Kearney himself being a young Jedi to Mark Graham and Hugh Mcgahons Yoda and Obi one.

Tis a shame Sonny Anakin Sky Walker Bill joined the dark side ( his manager is the emperor from a long line of biblical Sith Lords... sleeper Cell code hopper....tongue in cheek warning please don't Salman Rushdie me for having a LARF.. .

I digress...it will be interesting to see what SK does....what fits the process.

Outside back hit ups and Giant wing does forwards job is not part of the process.. ..

So who knows if the spare hooker is still relevant with Kearney....clearly he changes the script to suit.

I think Lawton is nearly a must.

It would take a special team to come remotely close to winning an nrl game losing their only hooker with no even close replacement in the 17

I have no issue with the Warriors carrying a bench hooker if hes going to play meaningful minutes. What i didnt like was what happened in the Rabbitohs game where if it not for Luke going off for the HIA test, he wouldve played the full 80. Effectively meaning the Warriors wouldve only played with a 3 man bench for the game which is a waste.

Agreed.
The problem is the specialised skills required of the 9.
This is where we need more than just hooker replacement minutes, we need a genuine utility that can be another body in the middle or cover the centres AND be a hooker when required.

I think the only reason he wasn't used is it was Sam Cook
If it was roach he would have been used.
So SK only put him in the team to cover Luke if he got
Injured..
Kane on the other hand has experience at first grade
Can cover more spots an will play roaches role once he learns the teams systems .
This means we will see him play more minutes.

Karl is our one- kayne is his brother.
The irony of this is that cook and Lawton are good friends.
All things being even I would probably go with Lawton just because he's a really strong defender but cook has got the jump on him and I think he deserves another chance.
Karl will feature at some point as long as he can stay fit- he's had a lot of injuries.

We need bench cover for hooker and should plan to use them but if Luke is playing well and plays 80 then I don't think we have wasted anything.
We simply get to redistribute the extra interchange or two between the remaining players.

For this week would have to go for the same team. Unless the following players are fit

Mannering > Afoa, Isaiah to the bench.
Passi > Cook, Luke to play 80min, beale, kata, hiku Fusitua can help make some dummy half runs. Ken needs a ball passed to him
Beale > Ken, obvious choice.

Definitely need to look a that bench utility role. In the last couple of seasons whenever we had a centre or winger injured Thompson or Mannering got pushed out there and were badly exposed for a lack of pace.
