No he isn't, not if we are talking about Rugby League. Kata is the form one on one defensive centre in the NRL. They have been quiet on attack that side, but there is little to no quality ball getting out there.

Edit: I have since seen you and Danpatmac get into a bit of a debate about this, leave me out of it... but you're wrong and Danpatmac is right.
Your in it now. Sorry but thems the rules.;)

Kata can put a shot on for sure. But since when has being the best at one micro skill been something to shout about.

And how many times does he have to run in completely the wrong direction before he becomes a bad defender.

The days of keeping guys in the top team because they do one thing really well, and the other 100 things in ways that school girls laugh at, are over.

Unless we get loads of injuries of course.

I think Kata's shooting out of the line has been overstated as a problem - I'm no expert but it seems like the best play when there's an overlap because you have to snuff out the play, if they don't then the ball goes through the hands and the winger scores unmarked. But it's a play where if you don't recognize it soon enough then they score anyway. At least Kata usually sticks the tackle - unlike Hiku who shoots out, then bounces off, though to his credit sometimes that's enough to stop things spreading quickly.

The team is struggling to score points. Hiku is one of the few players with ball playing skills to create something, can’t afford to lose that without Johnson.
Beale to play a utility role off the bench or replace Kata (which would be a hard call).

Warriors halfback Shaun Johnson is unlikely to return until after the Round 13 bye, with Mason Lino to again deputise.
Lino vs. Sutton/Inglis, me oh my will I enjoy that one.

Think Mason might have to channel his inner ginger, and go full Napa torpedo to get the chocolates on that one. He may also need to carry round a step ladder till the opportunity arises.

I cannot see SK changing much....

1: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
2: David F
3: Hiku
4: Kata
5: Ken
6: Green
7: lino
8: Paasi
9: Luke
10: Gavet
11: Papalii
12: Tohu Harris
13: Blair

14: Jazz
15: Bunty
16: Satae or Sao
17: Mannering

I've assumed Johnson is out....

The one remaining bench spot needs to be a forward, i'm guessing Beale only played because Roger was out.

I'm picking the bunnies to come out firing and we could get a beating.

As I said before last week's match we will know before the end of the first two sets whether the warriors have turned up or not. IF the Bunnies come out firing like you say and make 60 metres on the first set then you can safely turn off your TV.

Two factors to mitigate that happening is that Afoa will hopefully be on the bench and the more experienced Gavet will start.
Secondly we are at home. That could allow us to be a bit more cheeky with our line speed and for them to be more cautious with theirs.

A third factor in our favour compared to the losses against Broncos/Storm/Roosters is that with any luck Lisone will be out another week.

Bang on.

I hate to say it but I think a key player will be Jazz with his awesome tree cutter tackles.

If we get our attitude right. Plus get Captain Marvellous back. We should be right in the game.

We can't take any game for granted particularly since our round 1 victory over them. They have progressed well so far and we have been wlwlwling.

So I'm really looking forward to this game.

Very noticable against the Eels we lost momentum with Jazz and Mannering coming off the bench. Totally lost in what Jazz actually brings to the team apart from Defence and ability to play long minutes. Offers zero go forward in offense in fact if League used the NFL system of offense and defensive teams, Jazz would be straight off once we got the ball back.

The interesting debate this week will be who will Beale replace I can't see Kearney replacing Hiku.
Purely based on skill set Kata falls short although will get no arguement from me if he is named.

We have 1 vs 2 and 3 vs 4 this weekend, the top 4 battling it out
I would love nothing more than for us to topple the Bunnies for a second time to consolidate our top 4 placing.

Hopefully Shaun will be back on board which will make us close to full strength bar Pulu?
Next weekend we have the bye....

i think you have it, but i question if its just Jazz who is the problem. Both Mannering and Jazz have been involved in our 3 losses (as have others) but prior to mannerings return there had been no losses. Jazz has won 5 and lost 3. Mannering has won 4 and lost 3. Both are above 50% which is great but if your talking fine tuning before a bye, where does Mannering actually fit in the team.

To me he is a lock and should play there, but now the team has Blair, and Blair is better. So unless your running 3 props on the bench i dont know where he fits. Next year with less interchanges i see more use for an 80 min player who can tackle.

I am struggling to see if he is more valuable to the team than Sao, or Beale. Beale offers versitility and Sao size and agression. IMO hes almost like a not-as-bad Lisone, guaranteed to screw up and put the team under pressure, but brings a strong tackle. Maybe its just that i expect to much from him.

IMO the bench of Beale Lawton and Sao and Bunty, gives as much versatility and size with a better overall dynamic.

Keep the centres as are. Jazz is out and so is Mannering.

I actually like that idea. Hiku can play Fb/Center/Wing/6. Stop gap hooker if need be. Wouldn't have to tho. Pretty sure Kata has played there before. Ken can cover second row/prop if injuries forced us too.
Not a bad idea.

Mate you have let the cat out of the bag. There has been much wailing and gnashing of teeth over Kata at Hooker on these forums. .
