With our current center options available, someone is definitely having to transition out to another position.....
Joe Galavoa springs to mind for me & only 1 of our incumbents has the same pre built physiqe as him

Ooops. Running on manual here .

" I think therefore I am"
Cogito Ergo Sum ! Ah jeez you login to a League forum and some clever Dickie is quoting long dead French Philosophers...hilarious.

This center debate has been as contentious as any I can recall....its going Hohaia Locke.

Quite honestly I will be happy with whoever they go with....there is Merit in every one of them.

This type of competition for spots is what's been missing at this club....a healthy sign would be more of this arguing across the squad.

In the early rounds every single player seemed deserving....for example Lisone and Jazz....now we are back to a resumption of normal programming....with very little to argue over apart from the centers and a few fringe nutters riding on Lino over Johnson.

Good analogy....Joe was a beast off the bench as a forward....he did a lot of damage.

His combo with Ken? I dont see that, certinly isn't turning into quality ball for Ken or tries for that matter from what I have seen.

I've never been there biggest fan of Kata's but he has been consistent in his performances whether good or bad.

Especially with Green and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck on the left as ball players, Kata only needs to draw and pass or be a sledge hammer running into brick walls. Therefore I vote for him over Beale, whom I do have a fairly good opinion of.

So

1. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
2. Fusitua
3. Hiku
4. Kata
5. Ken
6. Green
7. Shaun Johnson
8. Bunty
9. Bully
10. Paasi
11. Mannering
12. Harris
13. Blair

14. Lawton
15. Satae
16. Gavet
17. Papalii

18. Lino
19. Beale
20. Jazz
21. Ligi

I want Beale in over Hiku.
I tried to back it up with an analysis of the last game showing how many points Hiku cost us but I couldn't find a detailed enough play by play record of the game to look at.
For those who say don't change a winning team. We are 3-3 in our last 6 games. So I dispute that we are a winning team.

My basic reason isn't really his defence, because he seems to turn around and chase the guy down and make up for it.
It is his lack of ball security/handling errors/not passing the ball to Fusitua enough. Despite playing with the best wing in the league he only has 2 try assists. This page lists some good stats up to Round ten

Shaun Johnson 6 try assists in only 6 games
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck 6 try assists in 10 games
Green 4 try assists in 10 games
Lino 4 try assists in 4 games
Harris 3 in 9 games
Hiku 2 in 10
Kata 2 in 8

Hiku brings intangibles to the table. Fusitua receives a sweet pass from Peta, and then shoots one back inside to Shaun Johnson for the try. No stat for Peta, but a great play all the same.

And Shaun Johnson's try assists to Fusitua happen with Peta drawing attention away from Fusitua.

Kata doesn't do either IMO. He catches and runs. That's it.

So Hiku, with all his faults, is still ahead of Kata in the center pecking order as I see it.

Very noticable against the Eels we lost momentum with Jazz and Mannering coming off the bench. Totally lost in what Jazz actually brings to the team apart from Defence and ability to play long minutes. Offers zero go forward in offense in fact if League used the NFL system of offense and defensive teams, Jazz would be straight off once we got the ball back.

The interesting debate this week will be who will Beale replace I can't see Kearney replacing Hiku.
Purely based on skill set Kata falls short although will get no arguement from me if he is named.

We have 1 vs 2 and 3 vs 4 this weekend, the top 4 battling it out
I would love nothing more than for us to topple the Bunnies for a second time to consolidate our top 4 placing.

Hopefully Shaun will be back on board which will make us close to full strength bar Pulu?
Next weekend we have the bye....

I think most importantly we need our forwards to show another power game like the earlier rounds. If they come out with poor line speed and that hard running missing I will be concerned for the rest of the season. Sure we have a bye to refresh but it is a bloody long run after that. Could we be burning out like the commentators predicted?

I normally judge a centres attack by how his winger is going beside him. Fusitua has been scoring tries for fun. Maumalo has been very good, but no where near the same threat on attack close to the line. Kata doesn't have the ability to put his winger away like Hiku does, no doubt.

Kata has been pretty good on D this season, has missed his man coming out of the line a few times, twice against the Roosters I think it was trying to shut down Teddy, which were pretty shit. Hiku is a bit of a shirt grabber, but seems to eventually drag his man down, after they make 20 metres..

Huge call from SK coming up. Can't see any other selection head aches for him though, would love an update on Shaun Johnson.

I think that Kata has been our most consistent centre, has been much, much improved on d and his workload out of yardage has been really impressive. His combo with Ken and the subsequent rise in Ken's performance and consistency means I wouldn't be changing that pairing anytime soon.
Agreed, if a trainspotter on here can find one, I'm putting out a challenge. Find a player that has played at least 80% of this seasons minutes at centre and has a higher tackle completion %. Kata is at 91.6%, I had a quick sniff around and couldn't find anyone. Aitken at 85.7%, Morris 85.2%, Dugan, Croker, Mitchell, Roberts, Hopoate all around 80%. Frankly given the way Blake Green tackles, it is one heck of a defensive performance so far this season from Kata.

He's [Gelling] a better defender than Kata
No he isn't, not if we are talking about Rugby League. Kata is the form one on one defensive centre in the NRL. They have been quiet on attack that side, but there is little to no quality ball getting out there.

Edit: I have since seen you and Danpatmac get into a bit of a debate about this, leave me out of it... but you're wrong and Danpatmac is right.

Weekly reminder that Jazz fucking sucks and I'd happily carry a back on the bench over him. Beale would probably make more impact in the 2nd row as well. If we're at full strength and Jazz is in the side for both Beale and Lawton, I'll be royally fucked off. Offers nothing apart from 'solid' defence (which statistically was worse than Lawton's)

How do I like this post more than once?
