The selecting Manu has got to be a real headache for the coach, but the current logic of pairing him with Kata doesn’t make any sense.
If the club believes that Manu is first choice, he’s still a weapon on attack and his presence lifts the team, whatever the justification is…
Then you have to cater to him, as his defence is getting worse as he gets older you need your best defender (we don’t have anyone good, find the least bad) who can also pass, or you get the bad D and you’re not really using him on attack fully.
Kata fits neither of those. Neither does Hurrell. Lolohea had a go in the last trial and the footage was EXACTLY the same as in Rd 1, left centre doesn’t move, manu comes in, and easy try.
Who can do the job? Ayshford might be the best bet on curent evidence...
If he isn’t the force on attack he once was, then… what’s the point?
Currently just creating a highway for teams to attack us down the left, other teams aren’t stupid, they’ll just keep going in that direction and eventually find joy, how can we be successful, when just basic moves every team can run will catch us out?
The only way would be to completely error free and disciplined every week, dominate possession and their limit chances, but Vatuvei hurts that plan as well.
Surely they must see this at training,
Johnson and the right hand side must run stuff against Kata, Manu and the left, do they score every time? Do they actually shut it down in training only to fail on the weekends?
I’d guess most of the team gets a chance to redeem themselves this week (though its really 2 poor performances in a row) and if they fail badly again, the axe gets swung for the first home game.
