Looks like a typical buzz rothfield piece. These guys are on the verge of weeping when the storm can’t get back to Victoria at times, when it’s us just suck it up.
That's what I was thinking when I read it.
No covid and we would of had a better chance of retaining Gould as it was a role he was passionate about. The Bulldogs would of still come knocking as they are a mess. It would of still been a worry with his previous association with the club but we would of had a good chance of retaining him. Not being able to get to New Zealand was the main reason for Gould leaving. He was supposed to work with the Warriors and the NZRL.
O'Sullivan wasn't able to fulfill his role as he couldn't get to see local league in New Zealand to scout talent. The role at the Dolphins is ideal for a Recruitment Manager as you can start from scratch. Also with them only having 2022 to build a roster they need to get moving quickly.
The comment about losing our best player. We lost him early due to covid. May have also helped with his decision to leave with the club being based in Australia with no end it sight. The comment is also from an Australian where union is a minority sport and wouldn't understand why someone would want to leave the NRL for less money. Where us New Zealanders see the All Blacks as the big goal sporting wise and he'd earn less in NZ but has more opportunities overseas.
The being put up in the best resorts is all well and good but they are still away from home for 2 going on 3 years. A lot of Australians struggle signing under normal conditions with the Warriors or a Super League club as they get homesick. That is one player who has decided to move not an entire team and support staff.
The club being in Australia will have a lasting impact. Financially they aren't in front of their home crowds and aren't really enticing good crowds where they have been based. Memberships are a hard sell when you don't get to see your team. Harder to be a proper club with the team in Australia away from their development players.
Rothfield pretty much always picks us for the spoon the only exceptions is when he has a ax to grind against another club or wants to justify his rants in his articles against a club.
