General [official] Music Discussion Thread.

Asked a little while ago if there was a music discussion thread (I'm gonna assume some of you enjoy music), and was told there wasn't one. Just never got around to starting it.

But now I have. This is it. It is [Official]. Here you can discuss your favourite songs, bands, and guilty pleasures. And tell other people their opinion is wrong, of course!

The reason I started it now is because I just got back from Kendrick Lamar and I'm still hyped. It was insane!

Anyway, 2012 is coming to an end. What was everybody's album of the year?

2012 music...no thanks...

Been to a number of Big Day Outs and one of my top 3 moments was when Scribe preformed half this song on the orange stage. Didnt really like Scribe but love the song and that moment.

One of my fav artists. Still listen to Chronic and Chronic 2001 on a regular basis. Produced some of the all time hip hop classic beats. Da man...

Best played on full volume with enough bass to blow the windows out...

Probably my favourite Pac song. Love the intensity and energy of the opening lyrics. Always like hip hop but this double album made me love it...

2012 was pretty good for music tbh, especially hip-hop.

Dunno if you guys like A$AP Rocky but his album leaked today.

Dunno him but listened to some of his shit on youtube. Nah, dont really like him. Maybe you need to recommend one of his tracks. Prefer J Cole, especially Sideline Story. Much tighter lyrics...

Any Kiwi music on the rise or popular? Dont get to hear much of it and the NZ music charts really doesnt give a good picture on what people are into 'home grown' wise.

Seems to have died down alot in the last few years. Still love the Kiwi reggae scene with Katchafire, House of Shem and 1814 being some of my favourites. Fat Freddys and Blackseeds are always worth going to watch and have some great songs. Cant wait for the summer festivals...

Six60 are the new thing.

I'd recommend them if you enjoy having your ears stabbed repeatedly.

Though I would recommend The Naked & Famous, Kimbra and Unknown Mortal Orchestra are dece.

Naked and Famous' song Punching in a Dream is awesome. Like it way more than Young Blood. Only track I know of Six60 is Dont Forget Your Roots. Its okay but I rate the Black Seeds way better. Ladi6 is going good at the mo overseas. All depends on your taste in music...

A Hori Buzz is dope. Sort of funk-ish kinda stuff. They've been on the come up this year.

Love their compositions. Have you heard the Aaron Tokona (from the band Weta and now AHB) and Fly My Pretties cover of the A Hori Buzz's song Turnaround? Wicked...

Do you know if any of AHB other members were from Weta???

Stumbled on a few nice Aussie groups the other day. They seem well enough known in aus but I'd never heard of them, ever. John Butler Trio(what you want is awesome), The Beautiful Girls, Xavier Rudd, etc... some nice stuff. Very different but there is a nice vibe with each.

I don't know how they're perceived amongst Aussies and Kiwis, perhaps commercial even, but some of their stuff is stellar. Ditto for some of the stuff posted in this thread.

I had no idea the quality of Aussie and NZ bands. And the chill style each seem to have, in their own way, I can't get enough of what I've found the last week with the help of lastfm and spotify

^^^The tall sort of redheaded guy in the Housemartins is Norman Cook, better known as Fatboy Slim. Think he's the one thats sleeping oon the desk right at the start.

That guitar instrumental is right up with some of my favourites such as Fleetwood Macs Albatross, George Bensons Breezin', Santanas Europa, Funkadlelics Maggot Brain... to name just afew. Favourite guitar piece would have to be Gary Moores Still Got The Blues, beautiful!!!
