So the bulldogs apparently have Crichton and have also re-signed burton. Surely they are going to have to release a few players….

Below are mostly based on media reports etc….

Crichton - $900k - $1m
burton - $900k - $1.1m
Fox - $550k
TPJ - $925k
Kick - $850k
Mahony- $650k
Thompson -$800k
Flanagan - $450k
Sutton - $450k

That’s over half the new cap on only 9 players and leaves an average of only about $238k for the other 21 players.
the Bulldogs wouldn't cheat the cap...have they done that before 🤔 ;)

Apparently the knights have signed Lachlan Miller and the sharks are going to release him!! He’s in their top 30 and can play from round 1 but they wouldn’t release metcalf to us even tho he was on a development deal and would had made our 17.
If true sharks have just shot up on my most hated teams list.
Saw an article on this earlier, apparently deal still being worked on with Sharks looking at a possible player trade so might not be a release for nothing.

Zero Tackle promised us a frenzy of activity once the CBA and salary caps clarified. Perhaps that started yesterday with a few movements reported. Will news pour in all this week now that all concerned are back on deck?

There is no frenzy, the same as Nov 1st every single year. It's just media hype nonsense to get clicks.

A lot of players are going to wait and see how their current team performs, how they're potential new teams perform, and a lot will back themselves to start the year strong to raise their value etc.

With Eddie Jones now in charge of the Wallabies I’d be expecting the ARU to target NRL players once again. They currently don’t have the cattle to win the RWC so better players and media coverage are usually part of Eddie’s plan.
He was on 9 news last night saying he will blatantly target some NRL players, was coy with who but stated his strategy would be those who converted from Union in school.

According to The Daily Telegraph, some high-profile rugby league stars who are all off contract this year are on RA’s list of interest, with Sydney Roosters gun Joseph Suaalii the No. 1 target.
The 19-year-old, who starred for Samoa during last year’s Rugby League World Cup in England, represented the Australian Schoolboys in 2019 before making his NRL debut for the Roosters in 2021.
Parramatta Eels centre Will Penisini, Manly flyer Tolu Koula and Melbourne Storm enforcer Nelson Asofa-Solomona are also wanted by RA, News Corp reports.

“We always want to develop players in rugby first. That’s the No. 1 priority,” Jones told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“No. 2 is to get back players who were lost initially from rugby to rugby league due to the financial inducements that league are able to give the players. We want to get players back who are lost.

“Thirdly, at the right time, is there an opportunity to secure some talent we don’t have in rugby from league? I think there is a strategic plan that needs to be put in place but the first thing is to retain the talent we do have.

“I’m sure the allure of playing in a home Rugby World Cup might be something to attract them back.”

Sooo...around 3.3mil for Crichton for 4 years - 830k a year.

Anyone think we should have tried to jump on board?

I've always been quite underwhelmed with him as a fullback so I'm happy we were no where near this!
He was always after fullback money, has the potential to go alright there. Definitely underwhelmed for Penrith though.
Not the player we need at fullback, centre would have been a different story but obviously not at that salary.

If his best form is ahead of him then its probably the right money.

If he is as good now as he will ever be its too high for me.
He is just one of numerous decent quality outside backs going round at the minute.

He's error prone and seems to screw up in the championship minutes of the game.
Overly hyped player. He is a good player I mean to say but not a star,

I will see if I can dig up his error stats.
The top errors for Penrith were in 2022

1) Kikau 28 errors
2) Tago 25 errors
3) crichton 21 errors

So not the highest in the team but in the worst three offenders
Overall in the NRL ranked 43rd for most errors so in the "top" ten percent of the league for most errors
