I wonder if there’s an opportunity for some sneaky manoeuvring with the Taumalolo and NAS contracts.
Let’s say both teams stand firm and it looks like they aren’t able to train or play this year.

We have extra money in the cap this year - do we hedge our bets and approach one of them and give them a reduced contract for the next 3 years (NAS 450k a year for example) knowing we’re unlikely to get anything out of them this year, banking on the world getting back to normal by Feb/March 2023 and having them for 2023 and 2024.

To play they still need their jabs.

Jeeze I tell you what, 2023 will be a pretty interesting year for the Storm. I know they’re a top team but surely 2 years worth of losses that look like:
Hynes
Ado-Carr
B Smith
Finucane
NAS
Bromwich
Kafusi
Potentially Kamikamehameha too

HAS to impact on them. Surely it brings them back to the pack a little…

How long have you been watching the storm?

They’ll replace those guys and probably come out better

As the saying goes, you are just keeping the jersey warm for the next guy.

A team of good systems will always beat a team of good players - plus it is sustainable with the players replaceable.

It will be an interesting test though. I only see the storm really tapering off when Bellamy moves in.

Yeah fair point, but have they ever lost that amount of key personnel - one or two of those players might not be too bad but 6 origin/international players in such a short space of time?
Surely a killer. Probably the biggest point of difference was they lost Paps last year and Niko came in and played better than Paps had - they won’t be getting that back any time soon. Depth will be tested big time

The more players they sign now that aren't Warriors the better. Our guys that we have mentioned as likely targets are still at risk until they get closer to their squad been finalised.

Lodge you can argue they still need front rowers.
Taylor and Nikorima as they still need halves or a dummy half cover. These two are unlikely to stay with us anyway. My understanding is Nikorima needs to stay in Queensland for family. Taylor that is his preferred option. I thought there was an article that Taylor said he wasn't opposed to a longer contract and moving. That could be put down to saying what people want to hear. Its still a while away anyway as we haven't seen him in Warriors colours yet.

The Storm have traditionally covered their losses well. Bromwich is at the end of his career so they may have been planning for it anyway. On the back of likely losing NAS due to the mandates might make it harder as he would of been looked at being the experienced guy to lead them up front.

As great as the staff are at Melbourne there's no way they could forsee losing Tino, Finucane, NAS, Kaufusi, JBrom, Kamikamica (potentially) & Brandon Smith from their pack in a 3 year period. There'll undoubtedly be some short term pain but signing Moeroa from the Waratahs could prove to be an astute move as could recruiting Josh King from the Knights. There's big wraps on Jack Howarth too

Not sure that they will lose NAS in the end. At some stage the govt here has to relax the mandates on covid. At which time he must be free to play. However that doesnt affect airlines which can make their own rules and i have no idea what they will do.
The Storm may only be without NAS for a month or two in the end

He will be a bit disconnected with no training with the team and what not.
Not sure if he's training as well by himself as he would be under Bellamy's gaze?

From the mole, believe it or not :)

One of the hottest properties in New Zealand rugby has put out feelers for a shock switch to rugby league.

Caleb Clarke, a five Test All Black who shredded the Wallabies in his breakout 2020 campaign, is an NRL fan and Blues teammate of code-hopper Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

Son of All Blacks great Eroni Clarke, the 1.89kg, 107kg winger went off the boil last year after an unsuccessful bid to play sevens for New Zealand at the Tokyo Olympics.

But after dealing with that "real tough period," Clarke has looked sharp in Super Rugby this year and is firmly in the All Blacks' selection plans for next year's World Cup.

It's too early to speculate which NRL club the 22-year-old could go to - but this could be a clue - Clarke has been a South Sydney fan all his life!
