Recruitment NRL Rumoured Player Movements, Re-signings and Rumour Mill 2017/2018

Wasn't there a few rumours/articles linking him to the Eels last year?

I'm guessing the offer is for 2018 and then the Dragons would hope pressure would build for a release for 2017.

The news on Radradra might be breaking but it isn't surprising. We have been hearing about him moving to French rugby for about a year now.

The Toulon owner announced his signing a month or so ago when the rumour heated up again. From there it was probably just a case of waiting until the right time to announce it and all the formalities.

The sad/not so sad reality that wing is the easiest position to transition between the two codes and NRL clubs (apart from the warriors dammit) spend their salary cap on the centre and not the periphery.

Good riddance. Was fun to watch, but so much drama that the game doesn't need.
Semi DramDrama.;)

This exactly it. With the cap the NRL clubs see wingers as being worth a certain amount or worth a certain percentage of the cap. If a star gets poached they can blood a youngster there or get someone else from within the comp. The Union clubs will see someone with try scoring ability and if they have money available will throw out the cash. Just a reality of the NRL's cap and the way clubs look at the positions.

The Union clubs in Europe also went nuts years ago where props were the high paid guys and were sort after.

The NRL cap is due to go up again we are just waiting on the agreements with the clubs and players. It will be interesting after that to see how that affects the competition from the players being poached. The Last TV deal definitely helped but also probably coincided with the money dropping in the Super League. As previously the NRL was getting poached by Super League, Aussie Rugby, French and Japanes Rugby.

And the Panthers have released a statement saying they aren't interested in signing him.
Understandable with the two halves they brought through last year but with how many players Gould has signed since he took on the role at the Panthers it's like he is addicted to signing players.

There hasn't been as much movement this season or this off season compared to the last few years. It will probably be nuts next year when the new cap amount is announced. A lot of players are off contract so it will be a lot of player re-signs with current club or club <insert nick name> is proud to announce the signing of <insert player>.

I see David Fafita looks like he was released. He'll be a handy pick up while Matulino is injured. Depending on price I guess. Good experience.

That looks a worry.

All the teams that performed better than us last year have cleaned Players out and taken on more new players for this year.
In comparison, it looks like we were happy with our 10th place finish performers.

Our one pick up, Foran, is still not even confirmed to roll out for the first few rounds, if at all.
And now we have lost Matalino.

Does this feel a bit dire to anyone else?

I know the guys can play better than last year, but ..... hmmmmmm.

I think we put all our hopes in one basket with Foran signing and performing for us and SK straightening out the forwards. Big gamble.

I think it had more to do with who's available and mainly that we have contracted players we just can't make disappear from our salary cap. If we cut half our squad of contracted players who we must still pay how on earth can we sign new players?
Also as we all know next year their is heaps of quality players available and the cap is going up and we have a few off contract.
So let's not get our knickers in twist over what other teams have done and realise the situation that our team is in.

The NRL can fluctuate greatly from year to year due to a lot of reasons. Injury, form, draw, new signings who don't settle, bargain signings who exceed expectations, rookies who excel quickly, young players who finally click, bounce of the ball, blah blah blah blah....

Point is, I don't see much in those other teams that says we can't beat them if we get our shit together.

How we do this year is on us more than what other clubs are doing/have done.

So we finish tenth and get Foran and SK to turn us around, and that's the best JD can do? Doubt it. He has a way of making trades for Kiwi's wanting to come home. Plus, he could have gone with Ata and Lolo and tried to get a quality prop. If Foran were healthy mentally and physically, free from the Integrity Squad, I could almost buy it. But with Foran in doubt, and no other changes than the coach...guess we'll have to wait and see.

You think it's SO easy making trades? He got Roger Tuivasa-Sheck cause the roosters wouldn't pay him his value. Yeah he got Luke and hasn't that been good. What Prop did you have in mind? Next year is the year. I believe JD is looking at making some moves. So give us all a rest from your constant ata and LoLo and Manu to the forwards and just let the year play out.
