Steve Matai ex Manly & Kiwi Player has gone off the grid

No one has heard from one of the NRLs biggest cult stars in at least two years after he moved house without warning and completely disconnected with his footballing past.

At one time Steve Matai, now 36, was one of the most feared men in rugby league before retiring in 2016.

He was known as the hardest hitter in the game and won two premierships for the Manly Sea Eagles in 2008 and 2011.

Update: Steve Matai has been found :)

'People know that I choose to live my life the way I want to and I have no concerns about how other people think I should live my life or who I should be in contact with,' Matai said.

'Yes I am a very private person – I don't have social media and it is factual that I am not a fan of the cameras and limelight.

'All I wanted to do was play footy. I gave everything I had when I crossed that white chalk – mind and body.

My style of play is a testament to that ''run hard, tackle harder, never back down''… I am a life member – whether I am still connected to the club at this present time or not.

'Please respect my privacy and the way I want to live my life. I am living happily and enjoying life in our community with my beautiful wife and children.

'Accept this and move on.'

Pretty good yarn from Joel Caine.

Joel Caine can spin a yarn but that is the funniest I have ever heard from him, my guess is there is a bit of exaggeration as well because he was a decent footballer.

The feckers only scored the last one because they had all he venues left over from the Sydney Olympics, WTF have they got this time?

Shafting us at the 11th hour also got them over the line. Basically trying to alternate between northern and Southern Hemisphere, NZ too small and SA a basket case doesn’t leave many options

I really enjoyed the 2011 world cup when it was here. Games were well attended and plenty of atmosphere at the host cities. The stadium situation here is diabolical though. The christchurch build is going to take years to complete and Auckland is in limbo with opting to patch up Eden Park instead of a long term vision. Australia is ready made to host with its multitude of great rectangular stadiums. They also get behind their major sporting events even with rugby being in a sad state domestically. It will do well.

Dunno...back then they has the SFS,
ANZ Stadium is farking useless for viewing, are they going to lay all their games in Queensland and Paramatta.
Geez Bruce, take some grumpy pills.

Let the ARU poach away. They pissed away their last golden era by throwing dumb money at the likes of Sailor, Rogers, Lote and co, let them make the same mistake again.

For every player the ARU grab a headline for there will be a dozen juniors they lose to the NRL who make first grade as per usual.

The new SFS looks great. There's also Aaami park, the stadium in Newcastle, the one on the Gold Coast and the new one in North Queensland to name a few others.
