General NRL Random Thread!

first of the big style of centres
I can recall seeing him at Carlaw Park circa. ‘75,’76, Easts vs Auckland. Their uniforms were impressive with sponsor City Ford ( I think) featuring on the front of the jersey. Glenora the year later, featuring Joe Karam, had WrightCars ( in red) on their jerseys - first club in Akld to do this????

I was at that game as well, think it was 76. Mark Harris had broken his arm in 75, Was it Auckland who played them or was it the winner of the Fox

Pretty sure it was AUCKLAND. St Helens came here too. Otahuhu played Wynnum Manly featuring Wally Lewis and CRonulla played Ponsonby (different years). Did Northcoteplay Canberra?? I was overseas then.

Quote from former St Helens full back Geoff Pimblett

“We cut them [Auckland] up time and time again but couldn’t finish them off”, adds Geoff. “We ended up losing 20-13, but we’d had enough by then. If only we could have toured earlier – at our peak!”
Played at Carlaw Park. bruce were you at this one?

Seen as we are at the start of a new decade, I’m going to throw out some long term predictions from me for the next 10 years for the NRL

Broncos will be the most successful team of the next decade - they are building a young squad of superstars which are a year or 2 away from a premiership window. When that opens, watch out everyone because they will be the team to beat lead by a formidable forward pack.

The Storms golden run to come to an end - when Smith and then Bellamy go the Storm will go back to a NRL outpost like the Warriors, knights, Raiders and Cowboys with mediocre success. Wouldn’t be surprised if they are consistently outside the top 8 by decades end.

Warriors to make at least 2 grand finals - Maybe I’m biased but Robinson has committed to the next 10 years with long term thinking. That means stability and properly utilising the youth coming through, which will drive long term success.

Sharks to own the spoon - Off field issues are going to see the Sharks take out the most wooden spoons in the next decade (if they are still in the comp in 2030). Have fun Shaun Johnson.

Players - Cooper Cronk to win a premiership as a coach; Jazz Tevanga to still be a first choice player for the Warriors in 2030; Chanel Harris-Tavita to win a Dally M during the decade

Growth of the game - the NRL will be facing some significant challenges with funding as future rights deals don’t grow or are worth less than the current one. The NRL will need to grow the game to grow income with Brisbane and Perth to get new teams but will face quality issues with less money across more teams. Increased focus on woman’s game and touch to combat AFL’s growth.

International game - the above funding issue will see more focus on the representative games as a source of revenue. SOO to expand and more international play with more prestige associated with it. A long term focus on growing new markets. Expect the USA to start playing regular tests against the big 3.

Changes to kids league games being discussed in the press. They are looking at a no score no tackle game for kids between 6 and 12.

quick question and apologies if it should be in another thread but when approximately do Grand Final Tickets go on sale and is NRL.com the easiest place to get them. Finally decided after 35 years to go regardless of who is in it.

Don’t know when they go on sale but, because of renovations to the ANZ Stadium, the Grand Final this season is going to be at the SCG.

Since there's stuff all going on, maybe just a random anything NRL thread.
First random thought is, would it be the worst thing to sign Lino next year?
Honestly can't see how it would hurt the club.
