It was a thinly veiled thing when we got Tomkins, we tried a couple of their young guys in the lower grades- not even sure they lasted the season before they got ‘homesick’- oh yeah and we had 1 pre season game before it fizzled out

I was probably being a bit too subtle with my jab that nothing happened with the relationship and we don't talk about that anymore. The two youngsters I think were from either Leeds or Bradford. The idea of getting youngsters from overseas isn't a bad one. We had success with the 20's around that time. If the club was going to be development club they could of been the place to be for the best young talent. Obviously it didn't work out and the priority should always be the best local talent first but it could of been a good idea.

Your right they didn't last a season. I think they ended up playing in the local comp.

So how many players do u think get whole of game sponsorship? And I wonder what teams they might be in?

I cant imagine any current warrior getting any

Blair? Might be why SK gives him so much field time. If he was paid only for whole games, what happens when he’s sin binned?

ok my point was if the NRL are funding the sponsorship or TPAs for Cooper and Tedesco, and they are both in the same team, how is that not favouritism?

When was this sponsorship given, how much is it, how many players get it and at which clubs. It really flies in the face of a level playing field when 2 players come from one club, but are there more? if it only goes to players in top teams, then isnt it a self fulfilling prophecy?

example. Your a top player in a top team, so here's an NRL sponsorship, which doesnt affect the cap of the club your in, so your top team doesnt need to pay you as much because your wages are getting bumped by the NRL, so the team can afford to pay more for another top player making it a stronger team, making it harder for other teams to compete on a level playing field.

The arguement that the NRL would use is that these are elite players and they would be paid this extra money no matter what team they played for. So it actually doesn’t favour any team.

yet clearly in the example i have given where two players are in the same team, in sydney (surprise, surprise) it does.

its kinda like how the Pm for australia is chosen by his party - but wait for it - since the days of Paul Keating only 2 have not been from Sydney, and where does the biggest cut of the countries budget go, Sydney. I bet you were surprised. So if you want to be a PM, you can increase your chances by relocating to Sydney, why because they get more money, they can claim they are doing better things for the country.

Just like league isnt it.

PS. I tried to find out who else was on one of these NRL paydays, and the information isnt easily available. Given the bulk of teams are in Sydney I expect most are there if there are any others, but i have no idea. Also If Cronk wasnt getting one of these paydays, would the roosters have had to up his contract, therefore limiting another players availability. Or would he have been available to another sydney team instead that could afford him and that bit more. (he had already expressed a desire to go to Sydney for his girlfriend/wife by that point). Questions that cant be answered without information i dont have

Just saw the predicted Dragons team for round 1. Looks stronger than I thought. They have a great pack especially with the addition of Merrin and good halves. The back line is their weakness but a lot of potential there.
