General NRL 2023 Round 2 - General Discussion

A good win for the Knights down on troops due to injuries and a man down.

The Tigers with a man advantage weren't the best. I know a lot of the time they were coming out of their own end but it still needed someone to take control and get the Knights moving around to see how they are numbering up and see if they can take advantage of the extra man.

When Gamble was mouthing off and Doueihi reacted it looked like the normal push and shove since the punching / sin bin rule came in. But on replay it looked like Doueihi got a sneaky one in. Imagine if he got sin binned so it ended up 12 on 12. Would really show the IQ the Tigers play with.

After all of the up roar last week about taking the independent doctor and taking a star like Ponga out of the game it is a bit of karma that he ends up ruled out the following week.

The Knights might need to debate keeping him out for a period of time like some of the union sides or the Roosters have done in the past.

He got the majority of his head knocks playing at fullback but if he gets another one soon playing in the front line they may need to review the positional change.
Well if he can’t play fullback or 5/8 where can he play? There’s no hiding on the rugby league field.
There must be some real concern.
Can’t say I’ve ever been a fan but I still don’t like seeing him get knocked out every week- not with what we know now.

They are boring and they have no heart! Koroisau is levels ahead of everyone on that team! I would rather have Johnson than Brooks. Brooks has to be the worst halfback in the comp! Hell I’d have O’Sullivan over Brooks! He is mud!
Yeah but at least brooks still can transition to another club!
Johnson is fucked this is it now which is kinda in our favour but putting up worthless bombs isn't doing him much favours.

Looks like both Hiku and Drinkwater were charged and will miss 2 and 3 weeks each, so won't be there next week against us which is handy.

Also someone else pointed out that Wade Graham is out when we play Sharks in a few weeks, so we deffo seem to be getting a golden run of playing teams not at their full strength due to injuries and suspensions so far...
Made no difference against the Roosters.

My picks are going down the shit house now... man not sure if this competition is even or some teams are taking the piss 🤔

Nrl needs to sort out tackle rules ... the amount of head clashes / knocks after 2 rounds is seriously worrying. Ponga's career must be on the line now, IMO best to give the game away and look after the health.
Other wise go NFL and wear pads and helmets..

You get more concussions in the NFL- pads and helmets ain’t gonna help.
Just on that- ponga must be the worst advert for headgear ever.

He wasn't the cleverest to start with! 🤣

My 2 observations from round 2.
Ponga should have been left to play fullback with his concussion problems.
Tigers are the favorites for the spoon.
Knights lost their 3 best players.
Ponga, Brailey(capt) and Frizzell and still got the W.

‘The Newcastle Knights won't be given any salary cap relief if Kalyn Ponga is ruled out of rugby league for an extended period, following clarification from NRL CEO Andrew Abdo on Tuesday.’

The favoured and unfavored clubs. Bet the Roosters would have got it like with Angus Criton 😉

Josh Jackson at Canterbury unexpectedly retired last year and yet Canterbury have had to carry a portion of his contract into this year. Ingliss retired and South's get a full exemption, then he plays over England.

The NRLs biggest issue is consistency.

Or are they consistently inconsistent? 🤨

Same as the on-field rulings with the bunker or the judiciary.
