I can’t work out whether to tee off on that performance, or flush it and wait for next week
I'm feeling better about it since finding out that Manly have lost their last 9 1st Round games straight.

That hasn't doomed their finals hopes, has it?

Definitely not a great performance - not sure how to react to Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, yes, lucky kick and re-gather but don't think he did much else...

Yes, any really decent team would have put that game to bed earlier than the Dragons did.

Curran is quickly becoming my favourite. Always good when a "Why the hell did we sign him?!" signing turns into a vital part of the team.

Fonua-Blake: Crusher tackle looked like a Grade 1. Plead guilty and hand over the moolah.

Johnson: Good first game back. Have to admit to being surprised with him doing the kicking. Permanent move or, like with Chanel Harris-Tavita at 1, a 1 week deal?

Bur my winner of the worst player award is Katoa

With the score at 0-0 we forced a goal line drop put. From their drop kick that grubbered along the ground he went for a low percentage high risk catch and knocked it on. Nek minit it was 12-0 and they had momentum.
As if that wasn't enough with the score 12-10 and 30 seconds left in the half he gave away a stupid penalty making it 14-10 going into the break,.
Sorry Wrighty but I couldn't disagree more on Katoa.

Sure the mistake at 0-0 with the bounce was poor but higher profile players have done worse I mean Ben Hunt did all the hard work only to drop the lollies in front of his posts. Sometimes shit happens. Lucky for them we didn't capitalise while they did.

As for the penalty that was pretty marginal in fact it could almost have gone his way. Personally, I thought he looked quite damaging running of Shaun Johnson and I look forward to seeing that develop further.

Watching how the tigers used Maumalo as a kick target to affect and Dominic Young looking impressive for the knights, Ratuva might be worth a look since we have that tall type winger body shape in the squad. Hopefully Shaun Johnson and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak can establish that kiwis connection and build on it, there was some good signs between them once passes stick.

Nikorima was putting him in good space off short passes in 2020, and last night he was doing the same off Shaun Johnson. Good signs early on. Also really looking forward to Niukore next year running off Shaun Johnson, he’s a player hitting the ball at pace that will be a handful for opponents.

Went to the game, lots of positive intent shown by the boys with plenty of ball moment but a fair amount rust in there too.

We did well to get back into the game and should‘ve knuckled down after taking the lead just after halftime. The game was full of errors but that last 30 minutes was particularly bad coming up with some poor plays coming out of our own end and it wasn’t just the young blokes.

Tohu Harris had the blue shirt and was on the field a fair bit, Addin Fonua-Blake, Shaun Johnson, between these guys I’m not sure what was said but it seemed like we were determined to play ad-lib footy rather than play the situation.

Anyway, we’ll be better for the run I have no doubt. Notable mention to Shaun Johnson, great to see him back in Warriors colours! Curren looks the goods and played well in the middle.

Summary of the first 20 mins. of the game

0- 10 mins.
1. Warriors start the game. St George kick off.
2. Warriors earn a penalty on the 3rd tackle - high tackle
3. Warriors march into Dragons 20m on attack
4. Warriors backline passing looks clunky - Chanel Harris-Tavita passes alittle behind Vaelia who manages to grab the ball.
5. 4th tackle - Chanel Harris-Tavita passes the ball a mile forward while being tackled. Terrible hail mary play. Warriors lose possession. Opportunity lost.
6. STI take possession and march up to our 20m line before a terrible pass hands over possession. Vaelia picks up the ball.
7. Warriors march up the field. Late in the tackle - Curran makes a fantastic break up the middle. No one running off him and he pop passes to Egan who hands it over to Shaun Johnson with a perfectly timed kick to the in-goal.
8. Forced line dropout. Warriors looking good and on attack.
9. Terrible line drop out from SGI and ball goes bouncying around like crazy. Rather than using his feet or body to stop the ball, Katoa tries to catch it only to drop it stone cold. Opportunity to attack lost. SGI ball.
10.
Aiken gives away a penalty on the first tackle for lying all over the player. SGI march up the field. Into our 10M line.
11. TRY! Sloan does a cut out ball to Ravalava and he score in the corner.

6-0 SGI.

10-20min

1. Warriors kick off. SGI march up the field a good 40-50m set. SGI bombs. Chanel Harris-Tavita no where in sight to catch the ball. Ball bounces. Luckily Chanel Harris-Tavita is there to dive on it.
2. Shaun Johnson throws a forward pass on the second tackle to DZW. UGH!
3. SGI lose the ball on the 3rd. Warriors escape.
4. Warriors march the ball back to 1/2 with some big runs from Addin Fonua-Blake and Katoa out wide.
5. 5th tackle, good bomb from Shaun Johnson but dragons collect and return with a good 5 tackle set before punting it downfield to DZW who gingerly catches the ball.
6. DZW with 4 defenders infront of him decides to do a hail mary pass to Chanel Harris-Tavita 10m and almost gets intercepted by a dragons player!!!
7. Warrior march up to the 1/2 way line. Shaun Johnson makes a terrible long pass on the 3rd but Vaelia manages to collect the ball.
8. Addin Fonua-Blake on the 4th, loses the ball in the tackle on the 1/2 way line. Turnover. SGI on attack !
9. TRY! SGI march it to the line. Sloan passes to Jack Bird as a decoy and who cuts back in and no one defending... soft try....

12-0 SGI

10. Kickoff, SGI march up the field with a 57m set!!!!
11. SGI bombs on the last to Montoya who catches in the 10m line before getting monstered by SGI defense. Berry take the next hit up and gets smashed by 3 Dragon defenders.
12. Warriors get a penalty from the ref.

I'll analyze the next 20mins later....

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I may just go the with sky now option at $40 a month which should work out about the same over 5 or 6 months of the season. I did suspect a lot of these streaming sites are able to block VPNs.
Btw i assume you're talking about paid VPNs?
Yes, paid VPNs. I should really send Kayo a bill lol.

For sure a lot of sites block them, and it can be a bit of a cat and mouse game, but I’ve never seen anybody as comprehensive with it as Kayo. It probably doesn’t help that Kayo is not really a high priority for most VPN providers. Not as much of a demand globally for Australian services in general as there would be for Netflix US, BBC iPlayer etc. — so there’s less incentive for them to refresh their Aussie IP addresses.

We had all the momentum in the first 10mins. Crucial mistakes :

Chanel Harris-Tavita - forward pass on attack in SGI 20m on the 4th tackle
Katoa - dropped ball from line drop out
Aitken - giving away a penalty on the first tackle right after after Katoa's dropped ball

Second 10mins :

Only crucial mistake I could spot was Addin Fonua-Blake dropping the ball on the 1/2 way line and SGI scoring on the next set.

a 57m set from the next kick off by SGI was a momentum killer for us...

Can anyone explain please

NRL stats show that the Dragons had 1 HIA but used 11 interchanges

I like Brownies take. Happy to hear they want to play a positive brand of footy this year, and admitting to them making silly errors and mistakes. 100X better listening to this than the nonsense rubbish SK used to spew out. Except I have no idea how he fixes this mess

Sorry about the late stats guys:

The worst thing about that match was SGI were terrible, they must be bottom 8 candidates for sure, and we made them look good.

I cannot remember such a poor start to the season.

Fitness is obviously an issue. Did I hear one of the talking heads at half time suggest that coaches are working on match fitness rather than pre season running sessions now?

If so losing the second trial match may have ben a factor, maybe.

We got dicked on everything except kicking metres, thanks to Shaun Johnson.

Also, it is near impossible to win with a penalty count of 8- 4. That means they are looking at only one team.

Also when the score was close, and Shaun Johnson popped that forward pass that they all missed, including the bunker, I was sure that would lead to a settling in the penalty count...and it happened all right.

The ref system is shite and not improving.

To be fair that penalty count distorts all the other stats, they just didn't get a fair go.

Also if we had a genuine speedster to chase our 4 line breaks we may have done better, but thanks to out shire defence they had 6 line breaks.

Player stats:
ADF 151 metres...average PTB 2.73 seconds heyzeuss spare me, what an effort.😍
Aitken 40 tackles...first class...and 11 runs for 104 metres
Ben Murdoch-Masila 4 runs for 43...in 17 mins...WTF???...
Bunty 9 runs for 73 metres...meehhh:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Shaun Johnson 66.7 goal kicking...meehhh:rolleyes:

Not quite suicide watch, but I am definitely glass half empty with this mob...starting with the management.
