I think you will find there was a common denominator both those years leading to them being the top try scorer... Peta Hiku. Our current centres don’t have a clue how to set up their outside man. Our current halves also don’t even seem to be able to get the ball to the centre’s to do anything.
Totally WW. I am still a bit amazed some think the board arent seriously still considering Princess. He woulld bring back a lot of that familiarity of how to get the ball wide, whether its draw and cut out pass or just draw and pass. But most definitely that role of the running back and the centres understanding of his play and how he likes to get it wide is gone. Whether ppl love the old guard wingers or not.

I still think they are not contesting the ball like they use to, although really it was Fusitua who was the best under the 2m from try line bombs and currently thats a no go.

Im sure in time when they find the key players they need in that critical halves and outside backs roles, we will get another level of understanding. Problem is we cant wait another 10 years for that to happen imo. Im getting old and starting to wonder if we will win a prem before I kark it haha. Here I was nearly 30 years ago after Auckland had beaten a star studded Kangaroos team, that an Auckland based team would be like the Breakers and win some easy prems. Oh boy, can I take my old club back? haha.

I still have faith we are not far off a cracker team, we have the money for 2 marquee players. Do we go with 6 and 9 or do we change the wing..... I still like Regan "Amazing" Grace with only 1 year resign to St Helens, hes one of the few Eng players who could handle the NRL, hes not huge but big enough and fast like OFire. He would add even more X factor to Walsh.

Tough decisions where that money is spent, but it seems they decided Kodi is being replaced by the 1 year offer while the looking around.

Ok. So once again we have a 20 minute shit spell that costs us the game. But in fairness, this team has developed fight and ticket. That’s a great thing. In prior years, we concede 50 odd. Yes we lost to Manly and Parra. But we did fight all the way and that is a positive.

We’ve found our marquee player in Reece Walsh. He’s our Jonathan Thurston. He’s a deadset half… but I can understand why at 18, they don’t want to destroy him early in his career. He’s the guy who leads us to a premiership. I love his hunger and will to win.

We’re not far away. This team will go on a run of victories soon - but they need to change their mindset. They need to expect to win. They need to stop showing respect to the opposition. And for god sake mongrel up. We’re way too nice.

Right now, opposition teams aim up at us. They expect to beat us - a game against the warriors is the game they aim at to turn around their season. The tigers will aim at this game. We need them to fear us again and for that, it’s all in the top two inches couples with desire and a never say die attitude.

we’re playing for position 6 to 8 in the table and we are right in the mix. This seasons is not lost - it’s only getting started!

Chanel Harris-Tavita has shown a lot since returning and I like what I see but, Walsh has displayed so much more.
Chanel Harris-Tavita will be part of the spine for a long time, the question is in what position does he offer the most for the team..

I don't know, just doesn't seem to have that natural ball playing skills that other halfs got and a weak kicking game. But that doesn't matter because hes got strong defensive game, just like Ken he makes us 200m+ meters so we don't need a fast winger. Feel like we are putting players out of position.
Would it be worth putting Chanel Harris-Tavita's tackling ability in at hooker? Does he have the endurance for the position? His left foot kicking game might be better from there? It doesn't work when he's on the right, and having him and RW on the same side is redundant.

We all understand Walsh just played his best game and it was from fullback don't we.
No. We all want to put an 88kg 18 year old in the halves to manage the game and get steamrolled by forwards so he can last a few games before having to be rested for the rest of the season or watch it from his hospital bed. We dont understand the impact a fullback can have on a game because our memory is only one game long.

I’ve been pretty underwhelmed by Chanel Harris-Tavita this season but I thought he was our best player in the first half. I think Walsh looks more comfortable at fullback and he doesn’t have to tackle there. For the next couple of seasons I’d say that’s his best position.

Nice to see Aitken back, runs hard and our edges looked pretty solid all game.

On the negative side our middle was soft which cost us any chance of winning the game. Without Addin Fonua-Blake our props aren’t flash and as much as I am a fan of Jazz he let himself down in the first half when we needed him to lead the charge. Maybe the contract negotiations are putting him off his game.

I can't understand why they play Nikorima on the right hands side. Two weeks in a row his passing from left to ride has been absolutely terrible. If they want the attack to function better. Walsh has to be play on the right hand side - the more touches he has the better the attack is.

6Again

Every game or part game he has played has been outstanding... Roger Tuivasa-Sheck goes missing in action when on the wing and it was unfortunate with injury he ended up there again.
Even Cory Parker in commentary was pleading for Roger Tuivasa-Sheck to get more involved in the middle somewhere.
I saw it a bit different, he was playing inside Tohu Harris down in good ball with Aitken out on the wing. Pretty sure he has free reign to get his hands on the ball as clunky as it looks at the moment.

So, I was doing a little bit of research and decided to stop, as it’s such an obvious part of the game that most of us already know, but…

If your front rowers don’t make any meters, you’re going to struggle to win a game.

The last 4 weeks, out of the 32 winning teams, 31 have had props running for more than 100m. Most teams have several running for over 100, and at least one big meter eater of 150+ per game.

The last 6 games we’ve had 1 player run for JUST over 100m 3 times - all Kane Evans.

It’s not a fluke that teams like Cowboys and Tigers, who are similar in regards to their front rowers output are in a similar situation to us. What shits me is that our players can’t step up with adversity. Last week against Sea Eagles, Passeka goes down for them, so Keppie stands up and makes 180m! We don’t have any one like that. Our players continue to plod along and make between 40-80 meters a game and hope that someone else does the work.

We can’t rely solely on Addin Fonua-Blake to do this every time, we need more from these guys
