I realise this will upset some, and I don’t mean it to be antagonistic, however I’d be adding Roger Tuivasa-Sheck to that list of backs with not enough speed & brains. We need more from a fullback than what he offers, just look at what the other fullbacks in the comp are offering their teams.
Maybe this could be in the recruitment forum but...
Of all the Fullbacks or potentials to be fullbacks who have already played this week and are a possible replacement signing for Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (unfortunately Ryan Papenhuyzen is not availble) I thought Joey Manu looked the goods... I was not a big fan of signing a non specialist fullback however you just get a good feeling that this guy would be a good fit for us.

He shut done Proctor again and again down that channel.
I feel like Titans expected to exploit him and use Proctors offload to that edge but it never came off.
I love Proctor in the Kiwis. He goes up a gear. But I wouldn't have him in our 17 or even the 21 once you factor in Murchie and Evans.
I was stoked the Titans kept going to him on that right side while starving Fifita on the left.

It was nice to see us make some tactical adjustments at half time for a change. Browns decision to hold back Bunty despite the heat paid dividends as well. Brown can feel pleased, we were the fitter of the two teams and we looked hungry and focused.

PoS harped on about different body types and it's showing.
Defensive assignments would be a nightmare for our oppositions.
From Ben Murdoch-Masila to Katoa there's too much variability. You need at least 2 props to stop Addin Fonua-Blake. You need at least prop and backrower to stop Katoa.
I'm pretty sure he was at the Roosters in 2013 when they had a big recruitment drive. I remember Trent Robinson mentioning something similar.

Having different body types so the defense has to deal with some short and stocky who will barrel into the defensive line followed by a taller player who you then need to adjust for.

We have bigger bodies in the middle but also have some good mobiliy as well with Sironen, Harris and Katoa.

Harris and Katoa are also decent size bodies.

Super impressed with Addin Fonua-Blake. I know it’s only 1 game but is he going to be the best prop we have ever had?

Particularly impressed that he was doing a lot of talking in the huddle. A true pack leader and one that can walk the talk.

With the concerns about his character, it appears he’s stepped up. Entrusted in the leadership group, his interviews pre season were excellent, pumping out the meters on the field, has a winning mentality. It appears he has a positive attitude and influence which is greater than just as a prop.

Yea enjoyed the game for a first upper.Long way to go so a positive start.was impressed with Fonua Blake as well made strong yardage.I wish we had some more speed out wide just to add to the mix but overall I got my money's worth and some more.

Good game ... I think what we seen from the game will be the base of the WAR going forward 2021 season Strong Forward pack great D... one of the strongest pack we've even had ... Chanel Harris-Tavita certainly needs to sort his kicking .... woeful ...but man he has the heart of a lion I really hope he doesn't injury himself as he certainly has NO FEAR trying to king hit the biggest guys on the paddock ...

Do we still need to use Ken and Fusitua to batter it up the middle in the first 2 plays in a set?
With the forwards we have now is this still the right plan?
Yeah I agree would like to see this mixed up rather than pure battering rams ..

I have to admit, before the game, I was starting to wonder if we had recruited players that were too large to suit the new rules. How wrong was I!!!! Preseason in the heat over in Australia and the fitness programs the players have gone through showed that, when fit enough and playing with a strong, and, at times, desperate defence, their size wasn’t a hindrance.

Bunty showed just what a big heart can do with that kick return. Could have dropped his bottom lip over being shopped around instead showed he deserves to be in the team.

And what has Hiku been drinking over the off season? There was night and day between his feeble tackles last year and the string in those tackles on Sunday.

Had some doubts about the big fellas also but glad to be wrong.Training & adjusting to the heat over there must be a great benefit.Great to see Bunty all fired up.Maybe Peta has been with Rueben & the kava.Whatever great to come away with a win

As regards the new rules and our forwards, I think it is hard to overstate the role of our Wings in keeping some gas in the big boys tanks.

Hiku was a man possessed, hope it continues.

It was great to see our team back on the paddock.
They ran hard and defended tenaciously. It was a good win against a team that would have brought a lot of confidence into this game. We had a busted hooker and half. They were 2 brave men. I hope they both recover soon,. We can be so much better with them fit.
Our pack and wing props really marched us down the field. We need to have a good kicking game to press that advantage and pressure the opposition. Also crisp , accurate service from our hooker helps our attack against quick defensive line speed.
So a job well done. Plenty of room for improvement. I'm excited, especially if we can get our spine players physically right.

The next 2-3 years are going to be really interesting. I’m starting to think the trauma, for lack of a better term, has really brought a sense of unity and cold determination to the team that we’ve never had before. It may not last forever or even the entire stay in Australia, but based on the end of last year and this game I’m really intrigued.

It feels like every player is channeling their frustration at basically losing their sense of normalcy into effort and motivation for every play they make.

I gotta send some special love to Ken and Fusitua specifically. I’ve been hard on them and suggested the rest of the team may have bonded last year, leaving them on the outside looking in. Whether that’s true or not, they both came in with a point to prove and really showed a lot of determination.

Super happy with all of the new blokes. Still have my reservations about Aitken, but he was really good. Siro looks to be an extremely shrewd buy, loving what he’s bringing to the team. I was skeptical about the body type philosophy by POS but this game very much sold me on the be

Aside from the obvious contributors in our pack, I was super impressed with Egan. He was giving the Titans fits. Last year he seemed to be a ‘shovel it out of dummy half’ type, but I’ve clearly vastly underestimated him. The variety, speed and precision he was attacking the ruck this week was wildly impressive. I’m calling it now - Egan staying fit will determine our season

Also special fucking shout out to Bunty! This is the guy I remember. Thank god Kearney didn’t succeed in pushing him out the door. A full hearted performance.

Overall just stoked with how the team played. The Titans weren’t bad either - we won a high quality game of footyball by being the better team. No excuses. We simply outplayed them.

Also - I may or may not have access to a HD download of the game if anybody else wants to watch it on loop all week 👀 (mods just kill this paragraph if you have to)

You get the feeling that now SK has gone, Pet isn't just a walk up start. Brown has wrapped Pompey a handful of times now, so I can see Pet feeling the heat a little bit and has likely been told if you want that spot your defence needs to improve.

Pompey had a massive year of development last year, as did Hayze. There's real depth in our backs this year. I'd be more than comfortable with Pompey or Hayze taking the place of anybody who is underperforming.

I agree with you. We really lack any explosive speed. Only Kodi is quick off the mark. Whereever we spend the big $ in the backline next year they need to be fast imo. Don't care if it's a half, centre or fullback. Much like our pack your backine needs variety and multiple threats as well
Don't worry. We'll have the speed demon Ryan Paps chiming in from the back next year!! 👀😜
