NRL 2021 - Round 1 - Warriors vs Titans Post Match Discussion

Thread to share your thoughts on the Round 1 game between the New Zealand Warriors and Titans. Name your Man of the Match, discuss the coach, captain, starting team, bench, opposition, game tactics, substitutions, errors (or lack thereof), penalties (or lack thereof) highs, lows, refs etc.

Dont forget to rate the players...

Really good Round 1 win, that one. A lot of character with missing personnel in the heat. A bit of luck at times helped. The ref was certainly fair.

Confirms our pack is as strong as anyone in the comp. It is multi-dimensional too.

Well done Hiku on defence. Tino is their best player and they had matched him against our worst defensively, Hiku muscled up. Aitken is a defensive powerhouse.

I hope everyone comes out fit for next week.

Anyone see Herbert pretend to give Hiku a haymaker in the Wallace bust up with Maumolo…classic!!

That was hilarious. Good sense of humour from Herbie

Too big, too strong, too good!!!!

Well done.

Simple plan - just bash it up the middle and let the big boys go to work!

Need to sort that kicking game though.

Defence outstanding.

Great start to season!

Is a Tino, is it a Fafita, no it's my boy Eli flying under the radar at at about 1/4 of the price.

Good grafting win Warriors.

Lots to work on but this 2 points and next are crucial wins with Raiders and Chooks after that.

Fucking STOKED with that performance from the lads. I expected an improvement in our pack with Addin Fonua-Blake and Ben Murdoch-Masila joining the team, plus Bunty and Ah Mau returning from injury. But damn, that's just about the best performance I've seen from a Warriors pack since 2011.

I think the most pleasing thing was that the trauma the team went through last year, for lack of a better term, seems to have stayed with them. There's a determination in them that I think it's fair to say the Warriors have been missing for most of our existence.

I'm not getting too far ahead of myself, but to see such a composed 80 minute performance IN ROUND FUCKING ONE is an extremely good sign. We're traditionally slow off the blocks, taking until Origin to really warm up.

Definitely still have some issues in attack (primarily with Chanel Harris-Tavita) but in terms of overall performance and attitude I'm incredibly happy. I suspect we're following the Bennettball approach and turning our defence into a wall, then slowly adding attacking flair throughout the year.

Great first up win, forwards set a solid platform and our scramble defence was amazing.
Did well to shut down the much vaunted Titans recruits.
Our new boys all played well, good to see Fusitua come back switched on- Ken not so much.
Chanel Harris-Tavita and Ken will have their replacements nipping at their heels, hopefully they rise to the challenge.
Some speed and a solid half away from making a serious push

Completion rate of 40 from 43 in that heat and under fatigue is outstanding.

For the most part pretty simple and direct, id hope as the combinations gel we'll see a bit more on attack. Halves controlled play a lot better in that 2nd half.

Pleased with how all the new recruits went - Fonua Blake tho...what a pick up - 192 metres.....finally we have an alpha prop.

Special mention Bunty.....great energy off the bench..

Love Harris-Tavita's passion and commitment. Awesome on defense.

A little concerned that we just got rid of our last village idiot in Adam Blair, and Harris-Tavita seems keen to take over the role with stupid shit on kick chases.

Forget the silly stuff mate, just play hard and fair, and you look the goods. Oh and as well documented by the commentary team, bit of work required on the kicking game.

Honestly I thought both teams defended well. I though our foward pack would be better. There was was too.many sets fully completed by pur backs for me.

Creativity missing from our halves but anyone raging on Chanel Harris-Tavita is an idiot a few kicks that weren't high enough sure but they were solid. It will improve with time
