A few comments arguing the starting team. We have to remember over the 80 it is a squad effort.

Once Katoa comes on Papalii goes to the middle with Blair to Prop. Papalii defends well and has an offload. Also with Lawton coming in to energise DH.

Some saying the gameplan has been changed. Just have to wait and see.

They said the game plan was being changed before round 1.

Are you saying they've changed it again which essentially throws out the off season game plan after two rounds?

From the early evidence of last night's game, the game plan needs to change as the 6 again rule certainly speeds up the flow. Wonder how Bellamy/Cammo Smith and his boys will try to figure a this one out.
Can see the serial 4/5th tackle wrigglers and milkers flouting this one big time..come on down Panthers and Tigers...

Ando used to play an all attacking edge with Ali and Toopi and would have the rock solid defensive edge Carlaw and Swann with Campion cleaning up shop.

Another point is that Papalii had the fastest play the ball speed of any of our forwards across rounds 1 and 2. With the new rules they might be thinking just run him straight at Corey Norman (their right edge half), quick play the ball with Nikorima scooting in behind. Then after 25 mins Katoa comes on and plays a more traditional edge role.

Im not sure why anyone would rate Papalili as a defender. Do you watch the games?

He is so slow laterally and consistently just hangs on in the tackle leaving him laying on the ground like a dead marine as the ball is played.

Have seen many tries scored against us when this happens

I'm surprised Josh Curren and jack murchie are not starting and on the bench respectively. King vuniyayawa vs an indigenous all star who played well in that game? We dont have the luxury to be slow starters here so hope the boys can pull this one off.

Paasi as an alpha prop is a very sad proposition for us. I prefer anyone who's prepared to give 100% effort all the time. That basically rules out most but I just wanted to put my 2.34567 cents in.

I share your concern about his lateral movement defending on the edge, its a worry. However, here are Papalii's 2020 defensive stats from NRL.com compared to our other forwards:

Papalii - 63 tackles 97.2% efficiency (1 miss)
LAM - 53 tackles 92% efficiency
Blair - 62 tackles 83.1% efficiency
Jamayne Tounua-Brown - 49 tackles 86.8% efficiency
Tohu Harris - 66 tackles 90.2% efficiency
Katoa - 46 tackles 88.8% efficiency
Burr - 55 tackles 97.7% efficiency

Watching the Broncs Eels game with the new rules we are going to get reamed if our defensive line is lazy. Whilst the new rules sped up the game it does give momentum to the team that gets the advantage early.
As we are consistently on the receiving end of early penalty counts this could screw us even more than usual.

On the plus side it does give Egan and Lawton a chance to show some flair. Egan may yet prove a worthy buy if he can take advantage.

And while I agree with the majority on here about Blair, his ability to play minutes and scrambling defence may see a 2nd coming in the new format.
