Not really a fan of the fake crowd noise

It's a bit too weird - it would be better if they could somehow show a "crowd" (something like what Chris Cairns' company apparantly does) actually in the stadium. I still think it's less weird than the silence of Round 2, but that feeling may not last.

Of course, if Mr V'landys continues his arse kicking, we might have actual crowds (okay at the moment the thinking is the crowd will be the home team season ticket folk, but still) in a month or so.

Anyhow, good win to the Eels!

Liking the new rule. Will benefit teams who want to play fast attacking league.

Im a fan of it. Anything that keeps the continuity of the game going is a good move. Stops the 'captains penalty' type slow downs of the game and teams skirting around the edges of the rules.

The one and only thing will be how long the refs will actually call them and how effective they will be in using them. We'll know by round 4...

I liked the game and hardly noticed the ref.

Maybe us being a smaller team might be a blessing...Chanel Harris-Tavita would be perfect in a 6 again situation...

the Eels looked fitter than the Broncos' and it showed in the end on the scoreboard.

A few observations:

6 again worked well, fast game. Won’t suit the Warriors but it makes the game better.

Single ref: they showed a shot of him just before half time and he had sweat pouring off him and looked tired. Then as someone commented, less 10 meters in second half and less 6 agains... was there less ref because the poor guy was buggered? Ref fatigue could impact tight games late in the second half - may be first game back but will be interesting to see how this goes.

Eels look strong and well balanced.

Good game to watch and it’s good to have the NRL back.

See a Japanese tech company has come up with an app where you pre-record cheering or booing and, using your device from home, you push whatever sound you want to be played through the speaker system at the ground. You can even nominate which speaker your sound should come from if you usually sit at a certain part of the stadium.

If the NRL used this, instead of a booing sound, I’d record “Ask the other ref”.

Not many penalties for the broncos without their biased crowd!
I thought the same..with no home crowds, how might it effect 'away' wins and penalties. Uniquely, it always seemed to go against us whether at home or away, so deep down thinking little change for us. Adding to that, there's additional potential for us to get creamed with a few 6-more calls at critical times. Certainly saps the defence energy.
Be interesting to see what Bellamy and his side referee Sir Cameron comes up with, to work this new system around their fingers.

With the new rule around the ruck, from what I’ve seen to date, Egan will have to start runnng from dummy! Lawton can do this and the best at this would be Nikorima. I’d also encourage Roger Tuivasa-Sheck to have a few darts from dummy. Meantime the Dragons veteran rake makes heaps of metres running from dummy ... he looks familiar ... isn’t he ex Hawera Hawks?????

Exactly... These new rules suit us about three years ago...
Careful now your implying that SK was just predicting the game to come and modifying the team to match it. Course since then the team looks totally different

After the game one of the commentators on nine was asked if he liked the changes. He hummed and Haaed, but eventually he also made the reference to the 10, however he stipulated that both teams were affected by the same lack of a ten so at least it was still fair.
Of course by then with the ascendancy that the eels had most of that advantage would go to them.

The lack of 6 again in the second half was concerning, as it showed a return to penalties but no quick plays. There were just as many reasons to give them in the second half, especially in the late part of the game, but the ref never called them. I assume he was just to buggered to think straight. Meaning teams that know how to manipulate the ref will get away with murder in the second half.

Also when they are tired I bet training biases will come out in a big way. You remember all that bullshit about training to catch a known offender from doing his thing, instead of calling whats in front of you.
