It's nothing to do with moving on - the discussion is around what has changed for the team to be so piss poor.
This team has always played piss poor except for the odd season .
Our last two captains have stood out head an shoulders above the team
In effort an determination
But the lack of able lieutenants there to support them is obvious ..
Last year Harris an Blair filled this role .So what has happened?
Do we need co captains?
We somehow need to inspire our players into wanting to be better
This is not happening an its a management issue ..

The other issue I see is our lack of penetration ..
So now we are going to hope that some talented rookie
Can pull something out of thin air .to cover for our teams lack of
Ability to pull off set plays .

We have lots of room room for improvement this season .
Hopefully we make moves in the right direction. An its not about recruiting
We need improvement .an to figure out a model that recognises an inspires
Players to make that effort.

Ok, keeping it to the very present - we are playing with a squad that is way under the salary cap even though players that are getting well past their best before are being massively overpaid. That all adds up to an inability to consistently compete on a weekly basis. We'll have games where we play a similarly disadvantaged side that has a poor game (Bulldogs are paying most of Mbye's salary for example), and we'll pull ou a win if we play well. However don't expect that to happen frequently.
Stop being so bloody sensible. You are depressing. :(...my money is going on the Titans. However more to the point our salary cap is probably showing up as much in the ISP side as FG, which is an even bigger problem.

Some of these comments I simply don’t understand. You guys demand change, yet when that happens you all lose your shit, so which one is it?

You demand Sao be brought in, and what happens?

You demand a better balanced bench, and what happens?

Roache and Luke are injured, Lawton is our only option.

Keighran and Chanel Harris-Tavita were ALWAYS going to get rotated, we already knew this. Yet when you see him replaced you all lose it?

He’s not a scapegoat, he wasn’t playing well enough and has things to work on, and Chanel Harris-Tavita has his opportunity. Create hunger, competition, desire. No spot is safe.

The reality is, we’re far behind where they’d planned because of SJs departure - they didn’t plan for this. This team is in a rebuilding phase if you look at the entire squad and organisation changes, this does not happen overnight.

This is what fucks me off with Kiwi sports fans. Do you think they want to lose? They’re in the toughest competition in the world, and they’re rebuilding. Give it time. We’re expect winning yet vilify an entire organisation when they lose, sorry but the real world doesn’t work like that.

Let’s stop having such high expectations and support the club where we can. They’re clearly behind where they’re wanting and asking for his or her head simply isn’t going to work.

I for one agree that Beale should be there over Kata, but what the fuck do I know? I’m not a former nrl player, nor a coach that’s worked with some of the best of all time. I don’t spend 60 hours a week aiming to improve the team I love, whilst living away from my family for the pure desire to help our warriors organisation. You think your passionate? That’s passion right there.

It’s time us fans get a reality check. We’re not coaches and we don’t actually know shit compared to these guys. That’s the truth. I do love the passion we have as a group, but some of these comments are so out of line.
Heres a reality check, as a club the Warriors have underperformed for years, to the point where making the 8 last year was an achievement. There should be no shame in a fan wanting their team to be successful and getting pissed when they never are.

This team is always in a rebuilding phase

If I recall coaches at this club have tried everything to increase effort. Anderson almost went nuts screaming at them before giving up, so that doesn't work. I think the answer is to ignore athletic skill if mental skills don't match. Too difficult? You wanna win or not?
What are you talking about? No effort? Kearney said the "players were trying too hard". I expect less effort from the players this week, that should do it. Right Kearney? I swear we have the dumbest coach in the NRL.

Mate, good post. But again we’re gonna have to agree to disagree.

Tohus Harris is not an endangered species. I’m glad we agree on that. So to say “no spot is safe” is clearly BS. You know it. I know it. SK knows it. Every Tom dick and Harry knows it.

Blair.

Your comments are fair. But only if this was a young Blair. He’s now 33 years old. He’s OLDER than Simon Mannering whose body is now busted. How is Blair still playing at 33? Look at his stats you’ll find the answer. The guy is not a work horse nor does he put his body on the line. Over paid over aged bench player at best.

Hiku.

Whose smart idea was it to shift sides? So now we have to wait for him and kata to adapt?? Not good enough.

3 years.

You’re prepared to wait another 3 fucking years???? This is Year 3 of SK’s mighty plan when he first joined us in 2017. I was told in 2017 it was a 3 year plan. So now it’s a fucking 6 year plan because Shaun Johnson left ? And don’t get me started on whose fault that is....what happens when Green and Blair retires in a few years or Roger Tuivasa-Sheck decides he wants to play for a title contending club. We start another 3 year plan again?....

Unacceptable.

It’s just not good enough. If we don’t hold ourselves, or our team to a higher or better standard then we will always be mediocre....
Just remember that Penrith have been rebuilding for 7 years under Gus Gould and they are on the same points as us with a better team on paper

Got 5th last year and knocked us out in the first round of the playoff. Literally.

They also have Ivan Cleary and his son. Our ex coach who didn’t want to leave us and his son our ex-ball boy. They also have our ex-6 in Maloney.

They are building a castle.

We are building a tree house.

They are better than us.

Yeah, but no, mate. ;)
That’s a whole different situation. Gould has a weird kind of self-sabotage thing going on.....”I see we’re doing really well this year....hmmm...thinks...let’s change the coach! That should do it!”
Oh, but that we should have a few years where we’re really challenging within the top eight during the season, like Penrith have.

The owners changed.

2012 we got a new owner and it turned to mud. Then in 2015 Glenn left and we started building again.

2018 we got a new owner and it's all down hill from here peeps.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
In all seriousness the uncertainty of future ownership including the Richard Fale sideshow in 2018 should have been hugely distracting, yet we had one of the best seasons in a very long time. If anything, now having owners who have the business experience as well as knowing a thing or two about the game in this country should be stabilising for the club.

Here's hoping the last week is just a blip in the new journey.

It would have been good if he completely clarified such a comment when fronting the media. I could be off the mark, but the way I took it was that they got impatient and started forcing the 50/50 offloads at inappropriate times instead of completing more conventional sets. When 18-12 behind with so long to go in the game it was not a time to panic. If that is where is is coming from, which I'm thinking it is, then I agree with that.

Who knows where he’s coming from.
This is what worries me about SK. how does he get his point across to the players ? especially at half time when they need
clear instructions?

I don't think he was talking about the whole team. I think the sulkers were affecting the others who tried hard to compensate e.g. Papaili throwing that pass between his legs. That is my take on it. The only thing I cannot get my head around is Kata. He is not an NRL quality centre, period. He is gutsy, hard to tackle, has some speed but that isn't a centre. A winger maybe, but not a centre. When is SK going to wake up?

A Matty Utai clone?

Try to hard, don't try enough no wonder they only get it right every 5th week.

This club is like a pot of gumbo. I know soup would be a better analogy for a New Zealand/Australian based audience but I've been watching a lot of American shows and feel like using the word gumbo.

Anyway like a good recipe you need to get it right. Train them to hard and their flat, don't train them hard enough and they get winded. You need to get the mix right.

Also like cooking you need to cook for your audience. If you move your restaurant to another city or state they may want it more spicy, or you may need to serve less brussel sprouts (that should be a given;)). We need to get the recipe right when we are on the road, stop serving the player spicy food to start.

Anyway this is all way to complicated and probably going to send us all into the psych ward. Read the above I'm already starting to lose it.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it want to win a game of footy!!!

If the players aren't interested in training to their max, there's no way any coach is going to train them to perfection.

You'd need to insert a serious space tec level probe up their asses, that was capable of measuring how fatigued they are during training. And even then half of extreme fitness is mental, so the probe would have to make it all the way up into their cerebral cortex.

They have to want it for themselves. If they don't there's no chance.

honestly we lost 2 on the road, its not the end of the world.

As to the trying to hard comment, I totally get it. They put attack ahead of defence, didnt work for tries, just threw the ball around. This left players out of position, tired from sideways running and trying every stupid play their little minds could think of.

We've seen it before. Manu used to do it often, trying to take up the slack of the rest of the team. Only in this case the players are trying to cover for a player that isn't even here anymore. All the press, all the talk was about how will they make up the short fall of Shaun Johnson. So now they all have this attitude that they need to be the one to make up the short fall. Its this attitude that means the team structure has fallen apart.

I'm not saying that everything from here will go swimmingly but I recognise that what we have seen is nothing new. Calm the team down, stop expecting someone to become another Shaun Johnson and work to the strengths of the team they have and they will win some games.

I see.
I think.
Are you trying to say that maybe the team didn’t do so well because the players were given some brussels sprouts after training? :sorry:

Mate that is the million dollar question that has ALWAYS affected the Warriors. Do you want to win son? Yes. Do you want to win more than the other guy though?...a

Having said that, and as a golf tragic, I get amazed at the PGA Tour pros who smile and congratulate each other on shots when deep down you know they hate each other's guts and are lying through their teeth. Away from the camera I am assured it is very different and always has been.
