2019 Beale is better than 2018 Beale, but he is still a notch below NRL standard. Close but not quite there. Maybe he will break through this game. Needs a try or a good play to boost his chutzpah.
He's a good footballer and a decent defender but just too slow for a back on attack. Hiku is no speed merchant either and a dodgy defender but has a bit of playmaking ability and flair to make up for his deficiencies at least.

You must mean this one. 😉

Who’s gonna do that for us at this match against the Storm?

I just had a laugh with Friendy about this try at the Origin game on Wednesday, he was sitting in front of me. I told him it was the best try assist of all time and he had no reservations in agreeing with me! Funny it has popped up again on here at the same time.

Thanks for your excellent post and for your reply. i enjoy all discussions and posts analysing Gerard.

You have a hard look this saturday and then make a post in the post game thread and you will see what I see. He is legit better than last year, but he has not improved enough. He is just ever so slightly too slow both with his running and speed of execution of skills (e.g passing or an attempt at an elusive side step.)

I feel the difference between this year and last is that he isn't running around afraid of breaking his leg again. He has put that behind him. I keep feeling if he can just get a lucky break even a streaky intercept try where he gasses it in from 30 metres away it could make him go to another level.
In sports you must believe in yourself, and I think some self belief is missing in Gerard as it has been so long since he did anything of note.

Last point - again thanks for the quality of your reply, as I have noted before I regard this web site as probably the best I have encountered in terms of quality of analysis and life maturity of the posters.

Thanks.

Looking forward to the day we develop a genuine gamebreaker out wide.
Last year Fusitua had most tries in the NRL didn't he? And this year Ken is amongst the league leaders. Hiiku may be porous on defence but is effective on attack. Herbert is also NRL standard. We are sorted in the backs including the halves for this year at least. Up front we need a pack leading prop. And it doesn't have to be a super star.

Then we are on paper good enough to beat anyone.

Provided that Kodi eventually clicks with green. Last game Green did too much play making in the red zone. Kodi needs to do that.

Fusitua finished off moves last year, Ken is finishing moves this year. Neither of them created anything.

Hiku' s best asset is attack, but when was the last time you saw him get the ball with nothing on, beat his man and race away?

Herbert hasn't had enough of a chance yet, but we know that's not Kata or Beale's game.

If we're down by 4 with 5 to go we're all looking at Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. You wouldn't bank on any of our other outside backs producing anything.

We're easy to defend because for a competent defensive team there's nothing to fear out wide.

Be that as it may, if Kodi clicks, which we will find out tomorrow as he has had enough time with the team now including two weeks of practice since the last game, then our backline will be NRL standard, and dare I say it top 8 standard, just not top four standard.

Last year with Shaun Johnson we were potent in the red zone. Those who like to complain said yeah but we should score more tries from long range as well but that was the only complaint about our offence. Given we had the same strike out wide last year yet could score almost at will in the red zone, is dynamic play out wide the problem? Or can our issues be resolved by a fluent Nikorima/Green combination.

To be fair their job as wingers isn’t to create opportunities. What we need are two things:

Speed and

Offloads.

I’d argue we have enough speed in the backs with Fusitua, NK and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. We need to replace those old legs in Green and Blair. Luke ain’t no spring chicken either.

As for the offloads....... well it’s clearly not part of the process!

Looking like a very good player. Yet to see that ability to break a game open and create something from nothing.

We just don't seem to have those players out wide.

Yeah we do Fusitua an Roger Tuivasa-Sheck are very capable of scoring tries .It's just
Our lack of being able to put them in positions to do so.
Our other top try scoring option is in reserves because no one has
Accepted he's a winger not s center an we are missing his strike rate

We have the cattle just not the det peices .IMO

Then we are f**ked. I don't see Roger Tuivasa-Sheck create much out of nothing very often. His defence is great, he has speed and evasion but he hardly ever uses it and he is never backing up when a break is made. Somthing is missing, it may be just how he is told to play oe how we use him but we need more from him.

Yup that's my point really. All we have are our largely generic set plays where we hope the opposition screw up in defense.

We don't have strike players. There's probably a dozen or more players I'd rather have at centre/wing than what we have just because they bring some x-factor or game breaking ability.

Our guys are solid but that's it.

Solid doesn't win you anything on it's own.
