I've got no issues with Blair on the bench, I'm getting a bit sick and tired of certain posters and their hate for him. It's tiring and not going to change a thing.

He did his job for us last year, this year he is different and it's shown by being dropped.

He'll either come out guns firing or continue to struggle.

Happy with the team named.

Broncos still have their problems so it will be an interesting game, hope home ground advantage swings it our way.

Blairs form has been mud but hes not an edge forward. He is best used at lock defending in the middle. Dont care if he makes f all meters as long as he chops down Pangi an Haas which aint guna b easy. Hopefully Ligi gets a good stint. Most disappointing thing is like someone else said nobody in the reserves is demanding to be picked ahead of him.

Blame Joseph Vuna and his Mormon sabbatical.

I like someone's suggestion that we sit down with Blair and lay our cards on the table.
Tell him we think he is past it.
Give him options
a) Play the next 3 years in ISP and we work with his agent to shop him around
b) He retires effectively immediately to free up cap space and we find a front office job for him paying $75K per year. I mean didn't we hire Roger Tuivasa-Sheck's cousin as a fan engagement manager last year? Seems like we could dream up something for adam. He is a great communicator and is very articulate and he is smart.

If you are reporting that you have heard John Wright was mentally weak (my avatar) then I disagree with those reports.

He averaged around 37 as an opener which lists him amongst the greatest and best openers we have ever had in test match cricket. Also consider that he played in the 1980s which is generally considered to have been the hardest decade to bat in the history of test cricket.
1) non neutral umpires
2) the West Indies in their pomp with no restrictions on the number of bouncers they could bowl per over
3) Imran Khan, Botham, Kapil Dev, Willis in their hey day would go on to take 300 plus wickets each
4) sporting wickets rather than the roads that permeate today's test cricket.

Also according to my own stats analysis you can add 5 runs to an opening batsman's average and that is what he would achieve if he hid down the order at number 4 or 5. Facing the new ball leads to you getting nicked off early doors plenty of time to unplayable peaches in the corridoor.

Had John Wright played in today's era he would average about 45 even as a opener.

He is a candidate for and permanently in the discussion for New Zealand's all time great test team. But most would pick Richardson and Turner ahead of him.
I would pick him ahead of Richardson.

Anyway this is a league forum but note my dissension to claims John Wright was weak mentally. Watching him bat and mutter "Watch the ball" before every delivery and grit his teeth suggest he was quite the opposite. Limited on technique and available shots to play but high on determination.

Why anyone would bag John Wright I dont know. Dude was as resiliant as they came, would love his attitude in this team for sure.

Team is ok for the most part, dont agree with Blair ahead of Pulu, maybe if both and Sao were there along with Lawton I would feel better but ah well.

By "we" I'm assuming you mean management because as low on form as Blair may be it's still a safe bet that he doesn't give a fuck about what cards "we" lay on the table.

Thank you ShaunJohnson7

I also recall a story about Wrighty where he couldn't get his grip correct, so he glued his gloves in the right place on the handle and then put his hands inside the gloves. When he walked out to bat the australians figured it out and they ripped into him with colourful comments relentlessly. He scored 80 in the first inning that test and 60 odd in the second dig. Total commitment to making runs, didn't care what it took or how daft he looked while making them.

Pity he didn't have a longer run as our head coach. He and Brendon didn't see eye to eye as John was old school and didn't think well of the new age of player who had tats up and down their arms.

Enough on cricket though we are here to talk league I have other forums where I talk cricket as that is my major sport.
