Thanks all for the welcome.

TBF I haven't watched the Warriors even once this year, so despite some pre-conceptions of my own on Kearney I'm going to have to believe you. Up until now he's been pretty poor, and the general impression given was that he was to chummy with the players. Consequently, when the tough decisions were there to be made he either shied away from it, or it wasn't well received by players who considered him a peer, as opposed to a superior.

Someone like Corvo though is exactly what you guys needed. While I'm sinking the boot in to Kearney, I might as well go one more and put a steel-cap in the ribs of the Warriors. From over the dutch, my impression has always been that the absolute cream of the talent, who are willing to put in every ounce of effort, play Union. If you have the talent, but would rather coast on that instead of put in 110%, you play League. That's been the impression on the organisation as a whole, and of course that's probably unfair, because it doesn't account for absolute troopers like Mannering who have and will continue to bleed for the club. Going back to Corvo, he is the sort that instills not just the physical edge, but that mental edge. Instead of rolling over when it gets tough, from reports you guys have been gutsing it out and sticking to the plan this year. Obviously Green is a factor in that too.

So, Blair. He was largely not wanted by BHQ when he first came to us, but he proved is wrong at the time. Defensively he was a rock, and while he wasn't a big-numbers player, the extra efforts he put in to decoys, pressuring kickers, and tightening up the ruck was decisive in our run to the GF in 2015. From mid 2016 he started declining and he was almost a liability last year. He seems to have hit the ground running with you guys, I just hope he keeps it up for you.
Good assessment of the League versus union situation and no one sane would argue the Warriors haven't deserved the boot. Frankly players were taking the piss and Management were incompetent ( all changed now, new bosses in the big house).
It starts with no league or restricted league participation in schools here but I wont bore you with the details.
Interesting hear about Kearney and Blair. Kearney copped the same criticism last year, it seems he has learned this year.
Blair wasn't wanted here either, so far we've inherited the 2015 Bronco Blair, hes been a machine.

It's just as hard for us to believe what we are seeing, these blokes put under pressure just play harder and get on with it.

Mate wots your sense of how much support Wayne has among the fans ?

If you dig back deep enough...you'd find threads on coaching here....dreamers wishing Wayne had been our coach.

I surmise that Bennetts home life is having an impact, marriage break up and sounds like the family sided with the wife, daughter doesnt talk to him. I only know whats in the media but work surely matters a bit less when your personal life is in turmoil.

I'll put my hand up and say I'm in the minority that fully support Bennett. If our site is anything to go by anyway, and I don't even want to look at FB or Twitter, most Broncos fans think he's old and senile. I can see why there is that sense out there, for sure, but I don't think the old man has lost it. That's not to say everything's going great - there are plenty of things he could be doing better in hindsight, but if anyone is going to dig us out it's him.

I don't think his personal life is impacting him TBH, at least not professionally. He's never been one to let personal matters effect his coaching. I don't think it's an easy time for him, and I'm sure even Old Wayne probably needs a good hug now more than most other times in his life, but until he officially pulls up stumps and says he's lost his hunger, I'm backing him.

The obvious answer is the halves, but I don't buy in to that.

I don't want to admit that Kodi and Milford just aren't that good.
your halves suck together. Individually if paired up with a good organising half they would be great. I think you let the wrong half go with Hunt to the dragons

Please, bore me with the details, I'd love to hear what you have to say about League in schools etc. It all helps get a better understanding as to why things are how they are. So far I'm going off the 4 or so Kiwis that I work with, blind bias, and an overestimation of my own judgement.

Yeah I agree, he is still your best bet, as long as he wants it he should have the job, you cant replace that experience and his track record speaks for itself.

I refuse to believe that. Well the fact that they can't be a good pairing, anyway. I didn't want to lose hunt, but $1.2 million is tough to match.

We won a stack of games with them paired last year. Like 11 from 12. I know the quality of our opposition was a bit lower at that time, but it can work. Wayne says so.

Yeah. We're Broncos fans. It's not about faith. We expect, nay, DEMAND success. And when it doesn't happen we find scapegoats.
Welcome to the forum. We'd all love to have the success your club has had over the years. The comp was getting a big following here before the Warriors joined. Now we have our own club to support and want to get that feeling when your team wins a premiership. Got the feeling from a few adopted teams but its not the same.

Don't worry when things don't go well things can get pretty fired up.

We are going alright but still a little weary seeing as your sides record and your coach has seen it all so he could spring a few surprises.

You would be surprised at how small the sport is here. It's tiny. The Union school system is a multi million dollar professional Monster geared up to produce tomorrows All Blacks.
The Warriors are also being out-competed by other NRL clubs for the local talent here, so take a small pie, slice it, and slice it again.
Recently the Warriors lost a contracted Junior to Union, that kid was playing Union Monday to Sunday in his school situation, and would have been under tremendous pressure to break contract,
The story barely raised eyebrows, even though the Union went ahead and helped themselves without even an excuse me to the Warriors.

So they are getting crumbs in talent terms for the sports here.

Our development pathways are not up to scratch. So one of the things we have adapted to as Warriors fans, is accepting that sometimes they are best going to places like Brisbane, maybe we will get a well trained player back one day when they are approaching the later part of their career.

As you can imagine it is an ill model for a sport, People talk about the lack of mental toughness in a lot of the players from the system here, but many don't appreciate that these guys are really disadvantaged when it comes to knowledge of how to progress and they are not the best to start with.

You expose these same guys to truly professional environments and they come good. There is just not the infrastructure and quality of competition to get the best out of people here.

What does it mean to keep the faith if you're a warriors fan? Himmmmm:rolleyes:

Others will have their opinions, but I believe it means to completely suspend all critical thinking, and basically any higher brain function,,,, and just say "we got this" no matter what the score is. Then whenever anyone comes at you with facts and logic, you simply tell them to "keep the faith" as if it was their lack of faith that's causing the shitstorm of mud flowing like cold lava down from Mt Smart into the surrounding suburbs..

It's beautiful really. Why feel bad about losing a footy game.:arghh:

Gladly these last few weeks we haven't needed to tell anyone to keep the faith at all, because the team keeps winning.:p

I refuse to believe, that you refuse to believe that . Your pack last year during that run was dominant, you can hide a makeshift 7 like Niko when you're for the most part playing off frontfoot ball and momentum. You now have a not so dominant pack and a semi injured ball playing fullback. This is when you need a dominant 7 that will take the team by the scruff and drive them round the park to free up Milf. Nikorima is not that person and doesn't possess that trait, nor do I think he ever will.

True. So my response is for that our forward pack needs to Get Good so we can continue to cover for Nikorima.

I think you mean neigh.....

Was that a... horse joke?

I guess it's true what they say. When a New Zealander moves to Australia, the IQ in both countries goes up.

It is funny the similarities. Both the Broncos and the Warriors frustrated by the local talent being siphoned off.

Fortunately, or unfortunately (I'm not sure), we had a good run in the past where the Broncos were THE club and we didn't lose many, if any, players to other clubs. Now there are development pathways all over South East Queensland, set up by those poaching NSW clubs, that leech our talent.

Despite you guys having no League rivals, even from over here we know how dominant Union is.

So is it worse to have been a dominant force and lost it, or to have never been a dominant force at all?

Neither of us will be able to answer that question lol.

Must be soul soul destroying seeing the Empire crumble.

What do you make of the Friday Night fixtures and having the same commentators (I assume you get the same callers most games).

Tell Wayne he should think about signing Wallace and Arrow for your pack, then sign Hunt or Taylor as your halfback. :cigar::cigar::cigar:

These are the debates that keep BHQers awake at night. Many a keyboard has been broken over these very players.

Again, hindsight is wonderful

Wallace was a Grade A Plodder, until maybe a week before he signed for the Titans. In fact we even had a guy on our site who started a bet based on Wallace never, ever starting for Queensland. We had fun with that.

Arrow, to be fair, most of us wanted to keep. But McGuire is the Australian lock and that really is Arrow's best position. We couldn't match the Titans' offer to play him off the bench.

Hunt was a massive shitfight. Is he a halfback, is he a five-eighth, is he a fucking hooker. FTR I'm a Hunt fan, as a halfback, but one point two million...

Taylor is the most fun. It is the gift that keeps on giving as far as forum traffic is concerned. I won't even start on him because I just get angry.
