I’ll add what he said
"That doesn't happen over four weeks of a competition, it happens over years.

"But you've got to start somewhere and hopefully this is the start of something, but it's not going to be plain sailing the whole way.

"We won't go the whole season unbeaten, there are going to be times where we have some adversity, we might have a few losses in a row, we might have a lot of guys on the sideline.
Wasn't doubting you sorry mate, didn't mean it to come across like that.

Just figured it was probably more to do with context and what the journo maybe asked him.

If you think Manners is being "negative" too have no idea.

He's following SK lead of not sucking each other off for winning 4 games. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Green, and SK are all singing of the same sheet.
Who cares if we've won 4 in row, historically we're rubbish, and we haven't played finals footy in over half a decade.

Worst thing the Warriors could do now is start believing their own hype.
Boys need to keep their heads down, keep working, and prepare for the hard times.
But I'm believing the hype, and BLOODY LOVING IT!

Haha mate dont worry so am I!!!

SK are just protecting the boys. If we lose 2 in a row the knives will come out, and mental resilience has never been our strong point.
I like how the focus straight after the game, is next weeks game.
Helps with the victories and will help even more if/when we lose

If any of the boys read this forum the team is fucked, they will think they are gods. If course if they were reading this forum five weeks ago they would be wondering who the new coach will be in week six.

It's like half of you fuckers are in an abusive relationships and your man but he has come home four weeks in a row hitting the jack pot on the pokies and not only has he not hit you in four weeks, apart from one backhand two weekends ago (but you did knock over his beer so deserved it), and last week he bought you flowers from the dairy after having a sneaky win on the scratchies. You are now telling your mum and your long suffering best friend that he has changed.

The mum and friend know that at some point the luck at the pokies will turn and I forgot my point.

If we get beat on Saturday the reason is surely..... Simple Simon

I think Simon is probably trying to temper expectations. I mean there are people talking about where we'll finish in the top 4, and needing a home final, and trying to work out who is the best team in the comp (us or the Dragons). It's all a little bit premature. Be optimistic and enjoy the wins sure, but we've seen this team implode for 6 years straight. Many of this current squad are the same ones who barely showed up last year, coached by the same guy.

I think cautious optimism is the best bet here, or our collapse will absolutely be seismic and spectacular (as reported by one league journo). And like any side we should expect periods where we lose one or two on the trot, if not more. Shaun Johnson actually had a similar response to Brett Finch after the Raiders game when we went 3 from 3, Finch suggested something about finals and Shaun Johnson's response was that it's early days (or something to that effect). So yes I'm happy with the start we've had, but there's no way I'm getting ahead of myself after the past few years. One match at a time...

Haven’t bothered trying any pre game armchair analysis other than “will beat the titans” “will loose to roosters”. Still in shock over these new warriors, but believing that it is real now.

The thing about the cowboys is that are fucking dull, a true moneyball team, all the money on big middle forwards and star playmakers, high completion rate, high discipline, low offloads, low line breaks, lots of tackles inside the opposition 20.

It’s all field position garnered through Taumalolo or a penalty from someone trying to slow down Taumalolo and Thurston (was Morgan last year) pulls the strings close to the line, let the other team beat themselves with dropped ball because they won’t.

I don’t think what Kearney was doing last year was copy the storm, it was copy the cowboys.

What was the last piece of NQL razzle dazzle length of the field you can recall, its all Hess smashing through from close range, kick short to feldt, second man play out both sides or Thurston short to Cooper, all done in the red zone on the back of completing sets.

Recent history the games are quite close, despite them being premier contenders and us being us. If you throw out the august games in ’16 and ’15 where we were in our late season tailspins (cut me some slack here)

2013 W 20-18 , 2014 W 20-16 , 2015 L 24-28, 2017 L 12-24 (last minute try taking out to 12)

I think there is a reason for that, we struggle against teams that crank out the same metres in the outside backs as we do, Dragons historically, Raiders been giving it to us via Cotric, Leuluia and Rapana, we haven’t got particularly close to the storm recently as struggle with their big fast backs. Big Semi Radradra would tear us apart. Cowboys don’t do that, last in metres this season, Feldt is pretty good, but the rest aren’t anything to worry about.

Not to say their formula isn’t successful, clearly it is, but you should know what you are going to get from them. JT2 might run double the metres of any of our forwards, but our backs will double theirs and then some.

IMO if we keep our discipline, can stop them getting into range and our goal line defence has been very good post week 1, not expecting them to get more than 3 tries. But watch out for Morgan he’s their most powerful backline runner and has been playing likes he’s in a coma so far this year, due to wake up at some point. And they are a good defensive team so not expecting us to run up a score either, they aren’t going to complete at 60% like the roosters did, should be a good one. Warriors 22-18.

There was a wide angled shot of the team right before Kick off in our only home game this year.
They had just run out in front of a big crowd, returning home for their triumphant parade.
One of the Warriors (not gonna name names because I could be reading it all wrong) had this stupid grin on his face as he soaked in the atmosphere.

i thought to myself uh - oh....we shouldn't be grinning before Kick off, wrong emotion mate.

They went on to play like twits, showing the Titans no respect, were it not for a bunch of obstruction calls against the Titans....

That was the game where everyone wanted to be the star of the offloads and no one wanted to do the hard stuff first, tuck it under your arm and do a hit up.

Fortunately we have matured in the last two performances from that one.

I will be looking closely at this game to see if the Warriors can play composed football in front of their own fans, or whether they still have a lot of growing up to do.

The Cowboys are sitting 3rd last on the table right now - they will be so fired up for the game tomorrow. This will be a real test for our boys - they will need to step it up too.

Game of the season so far. It will be a close one.

Go Warriors!! Go Mannering!!

That's two backhands for you, then, sunshine.

Your analogy with the pokies is that's the equivalent of the Warriors being crap, I presume....

Sometimes i like going to other team forums and read what they think of us. Just went to the Cowboys forum and they are giving their team absolutely zero chance of winning this week. In fact they reckon the team is the worst its been in years and only getting worse. I hope This isn't one of those games where we play the opposition into form. We haven't looked like it this year but old wounds heal slow.

not surprising then other forums bag their own side as much as the warriors were getting the last 6 years

Yeah nah bugger that TD.
I'd rather enjoy the high, if they crash what's to lose ? nothing new anyway.

I don't know when you are meant to get excited, I know it's sort of around the finals or when at least your team has enough points to guarantee entry.

But for mine the rise of the Warriors has been so spectacular that things look as optimistic as you could ever hope for early.

For starters we are playing as a team, and everybody is playing well, never mind that it is basically a different side to times past, if Lawton and Beale make the top side for example, there will be NRL games where the West Tigers feature line ups that have more game experience as Warriors than the actual Warriors.

If the Commentators can get excited about what they are calling "the new Warriors" then what are we doing being quietly optimistic ?

They won't collapse, they have too much capacity to stop other teams from embarrassing them due to depth of good defenders and the physical and mental condition to deliver.

The only thing that stops this side is catastrophic injury tole, yes it happens but why fear long shots.

As for our old players, they look determined to shut the naysayers up...that's is all this team needs, some determination to never give up, four rounds in they are going in the ninety percentile of effort...and making that look effortless.

We are on the rise. 8th position would be a good achievement, however the way they are gelling together they should be aiming at where they are achieving right now, they are good enough.

Four from six is all we need for a strong start, we are there, and banging down the door to the next quarter of the season.

Put it this way, looking at our run from hell, if we come out on top of that run then we rolling down hill from there.

Everything looks good, the main reason I am excited is because it looks like we can do it.

I understand where you're coming from. And to be clear, I am excited. Though I find it very hard to forget the last 6 years, even though I agree they are playing like a completely different side thus far. So for now, I will enjoy the wins and the new style of football without thinking too far ahead.

From an overall NRL season perspective there are also numerous examples of teams that have shot out of the gate and appeared to be new front runners, only to revert to old habits and end up scraping into or missing the finals altogether. The Dragons have done this in recent season(s) from memory. I think if a side has a strong history of making the 8 (ie Melbourne) then a 4 from 4 start is a likely stronger predictor of a top 4 finish etc.

I think supporters of clubs like ours who are deprived for so long tend to grasp onto success and gorge on it when we get a taste. Sort of like taking a starving man to a buffet. And you can't blame us for that, though I will continue to take the cautious stance for now. My fragile little heart can't handle too many more disappointments.

Fan forums are the absolute worst at exaggerating how bad a team is doing after a couple losses or exaggerating how great they are after a couple of wins.
