Juju
How good did the team running out to Dobbyn's "Slice of Heaven" sound over a big sound system also. That has the potential to become iconic to NZ RL I think. Nice little subtle game day change by the club.

Obviously an Aussie show catering to their predominantly Aussie audience...
The clock isn't normally stopped while kicks are being taken - I was rather annoyed that it was this time. I'm guessing we took too long to make a decision and the refs decided we were just time wasting.
Also it does stop them scoring a converted try and then taking the 2 to level up if they get the opportunity
Just athought about the double header concept in the weekend.
The NRL had to plan this from a long way back. I think they showed good thinking.
Warriors were widely predicted to be bottom dwellers so low crowd numbers could be anticipated.
What other teams would help. The Storm as Premiers and the Tigers as they have a Kiwi presence.
Things didnt pan out as the experts said but good on the NRL for forward thinking.
Mathew Johns hates the Warriors because it is NZ, Hindmarsh hates the Warriors because of Kearney. No way will they get any traction because of that.
If they canned one of those stupid segments they would have plenty of timeWhy does Hindy have beef with SK?
Agree 30 sec too short but have to cater to the majority viewing audience being NSW based, although does that mean the Cows only got 30 sec also?

An area where Rugby Union has always lead the way, Kicking the ballWell, I'm actually a big fan of taking the two when on offer in most instances. The kick should chew up 30 seconds to a minute plus you then get the ball back. Particularly with the refs blowing a few in the first few rounds you are almost certain you will get another one. Couple of penalties are the same as a try. Also it is not easy getting repeat sets, get it wrong and the opposition get a 7 tackle set from the 20. Instead make them have to tackle some more then have to turn around and get back to work the ball out.
I'm also keen on taking the 1 point before halftime if its on.
To be fair, they gave not much more than 30 seconds to all games. Obviously, with James Graham and Sam Burgess as guests, their games get a bit more.
It's an entertainment show. If you want some decent review of our game, watch Big League Wrap on Tuesday - we got a really good wrap last week and I would expect another this week
People keep talking as though he wasnt a real part of those long wasted years. Please remember for most of it he was the captain.I reckon he'd rather being part of a winning squad and last the season than have to go back to what he's been used all these long, wasted years.
in a winning game i always think of it as padding the end of year for and against. if its a penalty late in the game and you're ahead a kick should only be taken if it is guaranteed to cross the upright, . There are other time wasters that are as good, but if the kick is on your stamping your authority and saying were just that much better than you.An area where Rugby Union has always lead the way, Kicking the ball
One of the Aussie panelists Yvonne ? Mentioned that teams who have been taking the two points on offer...have been winning games.
Other league experts are still in catch up mode around the NRL game being a different game this year.
Our ability to get quick PTBs ( thanks to Brett O'Farrell) puts that extra bit of pressure on teams to push their luck, especially in the period where Tevanga and Lisone are fresh and doing most of the running.
You're right, there is a good chance of getting 2 precious points twice in a short period...good coaches have worked out it all adds up.
I remember when some of the best minds in league thought that bringing NZ rugby Kickers over to Aus was a waste of money....by the time Halligan peaked they were gagging for it.
Ten point Lead means that at least one of the opposition conversions has to go over...that is all added pressure.
Ten points versus eight points is that little added confidence for our lot...that little reward for working it down to their end...that settling feeling and quick rest for a side that can tackle you out of the contest for five minutes....make that four when you are going to get the ball back.
I have watched Matty Johns since he signed with Fox and had his own gigs. He doesn't "hate the Warriors", in fact he used to regularly tip us for the top 4. And like many others he has stated that a strong Warriors side is good for rugby league in general. But the club has become such a laughing stock that we've become easy whipping boys, and we have noone else to blame but ourselves. The last 6 years have been an absolute farce from the Warriors, starting from the top down. Some of the coaching, recruitment and retention decisions have been amongst the worst in the club's history, that combined with the fact that the culture of the place was clearly an absolute joke. Does anyone here remember how much shit Souths copped during their years of shite performances? They copped much worse than we have, and they're a Sydney based club with years of heritage behind them.
We've won 5 games, that does not erase years of rubbish. You don't just get given respect, you earn it with your performances on and off the field, and this club has failed in both areas - hence it is not surprising the reactions we get from the league media in general. This year is a strong start in terms of undoing that poor opinion, but it needs to be sustained. I for one am still sceptical, so I don't expect non-supporters of the club to be any different.
