There used to be a lot of little games with coaches hiding players they want to bring back from injury or youngsters they want to bring in. The NRL the coaches do a lot of video work so anything they can hide from their opposite they will do to get whatever advantage they think it may give them.

They have changed the rules as the team naming Tuesday used to be just name last weeks team and move on. Now they name an extended squad and remove players during the week. They may give Leilua to the last possible moment to prove himself as his centre/wing pairing with Rapana is one of their weapons.

Many thanks for this post. As mentioned this is some of the finer detail that I was unaware of and hadn't had explained to me. (I also appreciated the helpful information in the other replies to my post)

Question for you however, if they are delaying to the last possible minute either out of gamesmanship or to give him more recovery time, when exactly is the last possible minute. e,g friday night? or saturday morning?

One hour before the game starts the final team list must be lodged...

I hope Joey plays...he wont't be and is not fit....can only be to our benefit.
Agree, you see it all the time guys who play injured, particularly if it is knee or ankle, they basically become a passenger or re-aggravate it during the game. Adam Reynolds was totally irrelevant in our 1st game this season.

Correct.

On Tuesday at 5pm NZ time the Warriors name their team, 6pm for the other 15 teams.
This first team consists of 21 players and is to be named in starting order (to the best of their knowledge at that point in time).

24 hours before the game, so for us that'll be 5pm tonight this week, 2 players are cut from each team, leaving 19 players.

Then an hour before the game, 2 more players drop off, leaving a final 17.

This rule being brought in by the NRL is great. Crazy to think about the inside knowledge some gamblers must have had before.

If a team had say 6 players go down with crazy injuries after the initial 21 is named then there is the ability to bring in other players but the NRL has to approve it and we haven't seen it happen yet (as far as I know).

Clubs would usually make them do a fitness test 24 hours before the game to prove themselves if it's a 50/50 thing.

Training sessions and the Captain's Run usually make it pretty obvious to the media whether somebody will be there or not.

This week the media have said he is highly unlikely to play so I'd be surprised if he was there but it is Rugby League after all.

Anyone that’s followed Paasi’s game closely will be aware he can be shockingly bad on defence at times.

Good thing our scramble D has improved.

As a big Paasi advocate I nearly vomited watching this. Have a look at that last try around the 1.00min mark, and Paasi's defence.

I have this theory about top level players not playing 100% in lower grades. I'd like to think Passi when surrounded by fellow first graders would find it in him to make the play (Not every time because all players miss tackles but you get the drift).

Never ceased to amaze me watching Jonah Lomu carve up all and sundry in International Rugby and then look like a reserve grade player playing for Wellington against Northland in Whangarei.

I wouldn't use that game as a guide line as the whole team looked lethargic at times.
Someone in here mentioned the team was effected by sickness during the week.
I was at the game and at one point just concentrated on Paasi and can assure you the knee was giving him no trouble
Watching him wrestle in a tackle with three on him he showed no signs he was worried about his knee (dispite all the strapping)
The week before he ran for well over 100 metres and was beast (according to forum member at that game)
Looking forward to seeing him come off the bench tomorrow!

I wasn’t hugely impressed with what I saw from Paasi in the isp last week and was quite surprised they named him over Vete.
Vete for mine has looked pretty solid- anyone have any ideas why he seems to have fallen out of favour?
He missed round 1 through suspension and Paasi had a really good game, also Paasi has NRL experience playing on the edge and Vete doesn't. Given he is effectively replacing a second rower in the 17 I would say that was a deciding factor. SK all but said the spot would go to one of Vete or Paasi, so I don't think Vete is out of favour, he probably would have beaten out Lisone, Sao or Afoa at the start of the season if he didn't have the suspension to serve.

Raiders: Joe Tapine won't make his early return from a dislocated thumb suffered against the Gold Coast Titans in round one. Recruit Charlie Gubb is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks with a groin injury he picked up in his club debut against Newcastle. Joeyy Leilua is expected to take his place in Ricky Stuart's starting side despite suffering what appeared to be a serious ankle injury against the Knights. He still needs to get through today's captain's run to assure he is right to go.

Let's all hope BJ turns up tomorrow in spirit but not body.

The Canberra Raiders have ruled out Joe Tapine and Ata Hingano from their squad of 21 on Friday afternoon, with Michael Oldfield and Royce Hunt remaining on the extended bench. It looks like Joey Leilua (ankle) will be fit to play and Liam Knight will make his debut in green. The Warriors have omitted Anthony Gelling and Chris Satae from their squad of 21.

i dont know how to as im only watching it on the NRL app. if anyone has the ability to look at the replay and make a copy, using the time for game remaining. Its just after a stoppage in play with the ball going out. THe players are moving round each ofther to set for the scrum. Its about 2 seconds of video and by 21.29 its all over. Its so Damn FUnny

Can I assume you are using the pretty useless NRL Live Pass - which is now only available for phone and tablet, not laptop?

This is a bit off-topic for this thread, but the new NRL rights deal is terrible for ease of access to extended footage and replays. NZ is geo-blocked from the WatchNRL service on the official NRL website as well. An absolute disgrace.
